Fri 27 Aug
MCG* Collingwood v Carlton - Maybe Carlton but this is definitely the play off for the "Who Cares Cup"

Sat 28 Aug
MCG Richmond v Sydney - Sydney but Richmond not without a chance in saying farewell to Danny Frawley, but then again maybe they will continue to perform for his they way they have done all year - Shite!

Sub West Coast v Melbourne - West Coast even if Benny Cousins isn't back
Gabba* Bris Lions v Kangaroos - Brisbane - sad to say Anthony Stevens farewell will not be a happy one.
TD* St Kilda v Fremantle - I'm thinking St Kilda I'm hoping Fremantle.

Sun 29 Aug
FP Adelaide v Port Adelaide - Adelaide
TD Essendon v W Bulldogs - Probably Essendon but with no conviction
SS Geelong v Hawthorn - Geelong just!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Thursday, 26 August 2004 03:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Fri 27 Aug
MCG* Collingwood v Carlton, I think the Blues will get over the line in the first game of the round that counts for nought.
Sat 28 Aug
MCG Richmond v Sydney, Sydney to keep Richmond on the bottom for us.
Sub West Coast v Melbourne - West Coast by 4 goals
Gabba* Bris Lions v Kangaroos - Brisbane should win comfortably
TD* St Kilda v Fremantle - The Saints easily in the perfect conditions provided by the Dome
Sun 29 Aug
FP Adelaide v Port Adelaide - Adelaide because Port will throw it to break their minor premiership and not make the grand final hoodoo.
TD Essendon v W Bulldogs - Early in the week I was thinking Essendon to win and scrape in to the finals. Now I'm not too sure. Doggies in a close one (depending on how much the Sainters win by Essendon could lose and scrape in!)
SS Geelong v Hawthorn - Hawkas to finish on a high. Donald to be named Hawthorn's coach for the next two season.

Hawka (hawka), Thursday, 26 August 2004 08:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I've had a re-think on the final game I am now of the opinion that Geelong will tumble this week again.

Geelong V Hawthorn - Hawthorn in a passionate goodbye to a lot of their senior players (unfortunately)

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Thursday, 26 August 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

CARL - playing with more purpose and will be keen to take some momentum into the pre-season. A Blue win will mean Carlton have beaten the same team twice in a season for the first time since 2001

SYD - Richmond's chance for a consolation win came last week, they blew it sky high, and they know it

WEST COAST - Melbourne out of steam, out of ideas, dreadful forward line, West Coast due to lose but hardly likely to

BRIS - Roos will farewell Anthony Stevens with a whole-hearted performance but it's unlikely to be enough (BTW, was last week's effort the last straw for Stevo? Strange he didn't make the announcement before last week's game, so a home crowd could farewell him)

SAINTS - for Freo read comments re Melb. St Kilda need to forget last week's debacle ASAP

PORT - massive danger game but what's really at stake?

ESSENDON - because they're a better team. Expect dark mutterings and moanings about draft choices from the rest of the comp regardless

GEELONG - but not by enough to send Hawthorn back to the bottom

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Thursday, 26 August 2004 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Carlton - Collingwood are witches hats

Sydney - Richmond have no pride whatsoever and the Swans have plenty

West Coast - on a roll but D's to bounce back in the finals

Brisbane - Despite being obviously gone (LOL). Too much class for the Roos

Saints - Unbeatable at the DomeAss

Crows - Port looking to next week after getting it wrong in recent years

Essendon - Although the Bullies might provide the upset for those looking to catch up to the jammy leaders of the tipping pool

Geelong - Just my ar5e!

regards,

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Friday, 27 August 2004 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Pies - maybe
Tigers - apparently the players love Danny, so they may play WAY above themselves

Melbourne - easily

Brisbane - I hope

Saints - by about 30 goals

Port - just.
Essendon - farwelling a few players this week?
Hawthorn - Geelong are gone

chrisso (chrisso), Friday, 27 August 2004 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

"Brisbane - I hope"

Chrisso I can only assume this is because it will assist your team in their quest for Finals Footy!!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Friday, 27 August 2004 02:28 (twenty-one years ago)

CARLTON - in what should be a pretty even game
SYDNEY - Richmond have had about 3 chances to show their feelings for Danny and gone down without a whimper.
WEST COAST - better form and at home, what's the go with Melbourne?
BRISBANE - Kangaroo's usually need to kick over 100 points to win a game, won't do that against the Lions
SAINT KILDA - too hard and too fast for selfish Dockers
PORT - too much at stake to lose a Showdown to the new Adelaide coach
ESSENDON - for once there lack of pace on ball won't be shown up and despite their bigger salary cap
HAWTHORN - there is always one big upset in the final round caused by a bottom side - its either this one or Richmond, Hawks in better form!!!

Big Bird (Big Bird), Friday, 27 August 2004 04:27 (twenty-one years ago)

That's three of us that have tipped the Hawks if you don't count Hawka (he's biased!). There must be something in the air!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Friday, 27 August 2004 04:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Yep...it's called Bullshit.

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Friday, 27 August 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

The Cats are on the slide. I predict a straight sets exit in September.

chrisso (chrisso), Friday, 27 August 2004 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

So there REB. Nyeeeeer!!!! Consider yourself told.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Saturday, 28 August 2004 09:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Just like he told us that Brisbane were gone and how we were told that Essendon fans couldn't possibly cope losing to Collingwood and Carlton in consecutive weeks.LOL.

Geelong will resume their September choke after a long wander in the wilderness. My opinion/prediction could be just as accurate as yours Nerk, who knows, but I couldn't possibly get it as wrong as REB, that's impossible.Lol

chrisso (chrisso), Saturday, 28 August 2004 10:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Geelong are still looking at a season at least one week longer than the Septic Institution, straight sets or no. The S.I. will go out in straight SET.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Saturday, 28 August 2004 10:52 (twenty-one years ago)

"The Cats are on the slide. I predict a straight sets exit in September."

no worries Wallsy.

PS - How's your tipping going Susso? LOL.

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Sunday, 29 August 2004 06:32 (twenty-one years ago)

There was some ordinary tipping going on up there - how anyone got less than 7, I'll never know.

The only game that could have really gone either way was Collingwood vs Carlton. And in the work comp, I was one off the lead of the comp, led by a Carlton supporter... bugger

Bennö (Bennö), Sunday, 29 August 2004 07:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Geelong are still looking at a season at least one week longer than the Septic Institution, straight sets or no. The S.I. will go out in straight SET.

Yep, we more than likely will. Essendon are having their worst season in nearly a decade yet we still make the finals, so to be honest, I couldn't be happier. Have Carlton left for their end of season trip yet?

no worries Wallsy.
PS - How's your tipping going Susso? LOL.

Coming from you these may be the funniest comments I have read on this forum.

chrisso (chrisso), Sunday, 29 August 2004 08:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Carlton finished a minimum of four places higher than most 'experts' predicted at the start of the year, and as high as I dared hope. Essendon will finish seven places lower than most of their crowd tipped in 2004 and will finish about 12 places lower than their fans tip in 2005.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Sunday, 29 August 2004 08:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Unlike Carlton, Essendon fans aim high. When you continually make the finals this is natural.

and will finish about 12 places lower than their fans tip in 2005.
Where did you buy your crystal ball? What are next weeks Lotto numbers?LOL

Dear old Fred, I thought you would have learnt by now. Sheedy is already scheming and only a fool would write him off.

Remember 93, Fred? Nobody expected us to do much that year.LOL.

chrisso (chrisso), Sunday, 29 August 2004 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

My aren't we in a sour mood tonight Susso? At the moment you're about as pleasant and as sporting as James Hird was after the 2001 Grand Final.

Sure, my crystal ball may be faulty at times but better that than to display more arrogance than an American track star my friend. So, come on, out with it. What's eating you..or is something or someone who isn't eating you?

By the way, that comment about having to cope with losses to Carlton and Collingwood in consecutive weeks, I think that was Benno not me but who am I to dare to challenge 'Mr Accurate'. But I suppose it is easy to be accurate when your tipping forecasts are full of words like 'maybe' and 'hope' and 'apparently'.

Perhaps you are so grumpy tonight because you have so many splinters in your ar5e from smugly sitting on the fence loudly proclaiming your superiority.

I love the way you are taking aim at Freo and Geelong, two young teams who at the moment are easy targets for a team who 'aims high'. But then again, why am I surprised? Essendon have been looking for easy targets all season, your record against fellow top eight sides is shocking this year.

Perhaps the old chrisso will return once the old Essendon returns.

regards,

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Sunday, 29 August 2004 11:03 (twenty-one years ago)

The Carlton and Collingwood comment was actually mine.

But I suppose in a sense we are all equally guilty, of not paying Essendon the kind of cowering deference some Essendon supporters think Essendon are entitled to just because they're Essendon.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Sunday, 29 August 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Yep, we more than likely will. Essendon are having their worst season in nearly a decade yet we still make the finals, so to be honest, I couldn't be happier

Must stick in your craw big time, chrisso, to have to rely on the Saints winning to ensure you guys even got a berth in the finals.

Nothing like doing it all yourselves, eh?

Seven teams made it to the eight on their merits. Essendon had to rely on another team before they could make it.

Westener (Westener), Sunday, 29 August 2004 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

"Must stick in your craw big time, chrisso, to have to rely on the Saints winning to ensure you guys even got a berth in the finals"

Ah, the old front-runner comes out after a win. What a surprise. If you check the ladder you would see that even if Freo had won we still could have made the finals on our OWN MERIT. Westerner get your facts right, please. Essendon are in the finals because we won more games that the Freo losers. Comprende?

"Perhaps you are so grumpy tonight because you have so many splinters in your ar5e from smugly sitting on the fence loudly proclaiming your superiority"

Proclaiming my superiority? When did I do that? Must have missed something.

So, let me get this right. It's O.K to take pot-shots at my team and Sheeds all year but when I have a go at someone else's team I'm obviously in a sour mood and not getting enough sex.Lol.

chrisso (chrisso), Sunday, 29 August 2004 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

How you must long for the Good Old Days, when nobody outside the club needed to be told how good you were.

(Of course inside the club nobody has ever had that problem....)

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 30 August 2004 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

All I can say is :)!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Monday, 30 August 2004 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh poor old delusional Fred. If making the finals every year since 97 makes us no good, what would that make Carlton?

"How you must long for the Good Old Days, when nobody outside the club needed to be told how good you were"

This statement would be better directed at a Carlton supporter.

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 30 August 2004 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

If that response was any more feeble it wouldn't have been able to hold the mouse button down long enough to enter.

I have never said this Carlton team was much chop. (Which you bagged me for about half a dozen posts ago. Which should be enough to wrap up the Forum Supernaut Award for wanting it both ways.) But still the worst Carlton sides I've seen in 40 years have a 50% record against the all-conquering 'September Institution' since 2001.

And since when has finishing eighth in a sixteen-team competition made you good anyway? Who finished third in the Pura Cup last year? Or tenth in the EPL?

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 30 August 2004 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

"If that response was any more feeble it wouldn't have been able to hold the mouse button down long enough to enter"

Is that a programmed response?

"I have never said this Carlton team was much chop. (Which you bagged me for about half a dozen posts ago. Which should be enough to wrap up the Forum Supernaut Award for wanting it both ways.)"

Fred, you almost break the on/off button on your computer to bag Essendon after a loss or when Sheed's makes a comment from left-field, so save the Forum Supernaut Award crap because it's pretty bloody hypocritical coming from you.

"I have never said this Carlton team was much chop"

There is something we do agree on.

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 30 August 2004 03:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Look out, he's spat the dummy. Chrisso is doing a Richo.

Actually it hasn't got much to do with Essendon or anybody associated with them, not Hird, not Lloyd, not any of the Carlton blokes that are there, not even Sheedy. I don't like Collingwood any more than the average Carlton supporter either, but there isn't a Collingwood supporter on the forum who pulls the outraged self-righteous crap you do whenever somebody has a go at them. There was one on what's left of the old ABC forum and you're sounding like him more with every post.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 30 August 2004 03:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Fred, Fred , Fred. Dearie me. Are you for real? Look back through the thread and you will find that each time I have made a comment it is in reply to what someone else has said. I haven't spat the dummy, I'm replying to some of the dribble that has been emanating from your keyboard. Fred, you were the one who decided to get involved in the argument by slinging some shit my way and when I give some back you call me a Richo. Jeez Fred, what was that award you were giving away before?

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 30 August 2004 05:59 (twenty-one years ago)

'Fred, you almost break the on/off button on your computer to bag Essendon after a loss or when Sheed's makes a comment from left-field...'

No I don't. I just call it how I see it. I saw it Essendon's way with the Hawthorn brawl. I saw it your way with the Rama/Montgomery incident. I saw it your way when other people wanted Hird cited over Andrew Thompson, and more your way than not over the Scott McLaren fiasco, and I haven't changed my mind about any of them. And I don't bag Sheedy every time he opens his mouth. Only when he says or does something stupid. Just like Malthouse. Just like Pagan.

I'm not anti-Essendon. I'm just anti-self righteous bullshit (such as that Freo thread) and if more of that comes from Essendon supporters than anywhere else then that's who cops the most back.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 30 August 2004 06:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Sometimes when you go fishing you can end up in places where you didn't really want to go.

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 30 August 2004 09:49 (twenty-one years ago)

So you'll be staying out of the Swan for the forseeable future?

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 30 August 2004 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

And the Barwon.

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 30 August 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

And meanwhile I'll try and stay out of the Maribyrnong.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 30 August 2004 10:33 (twenty-one years ago)

so are you going to kiss and make up now?

Carlton achieved wonders this year with a makeshift team but brilliant spirit amongst the group. Stevens starred, Kouta found form, the side lifted and the kids developed.

The Bombers scrape into the 8 after a tough season - the loss of Misiti and Wellman won't do much for experience, but allow other kids to be kept at the club and not lost.

And neither side will make the 8 in 2005...

Bennö (Bennö), Monday, 30 August 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't you love it when true love shines through, and all is right with the world!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Monday, 30 August 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

And neither side will make the 8 in 2005...just like Collingwood :)

REB
