Essendon has pulled off one of the coaching coups of the off-season with former Premiership player Gary O’Donnell returning to the club next season. O’Donnell, who has spent the past six years as assistant coach to Leigh Matthews at the Brisbane Lions, will join Robert Shaw, Mark Harvey and Dean Wallis as assistants to Kevin Sheedy.

Welcome home, Gary. Great to have our premiership captain back at Essendon. As you all know I thought the Hawks or the Bullies should have grabbed him so there loss is our gain.

When I heard that O'Donnell had gone to Essendon I was expecting him to make a comeback ha ha.

He's just making way for our own greats to take over!

Good luck to him he has been great, just hope he copes with the awful weather now that he has experienced winter in sunny Queensland!

He's concerned about being caught on a sinking ship....so he goes to Essendon.
