....'We Want It Both Ways!'

Not that Mark would ever expect anything more than two stale nobs of goat-shit as 'compensation' for Nick Stevens, of course, because that's all Mark thinks Nick is worth (as he's reminded us every ten minutes for the last year).

Get over it Frederick, or you're no better than Choco.

The softness of nick stevens at the contest and the fact he is a squib who skirts the pack looking for the easy option to rack up possessions has nothing to do with the fact that players shouldnt be able to walk for free to other clubs.

I remember carlton fans squealing when hamill walked out.

Either way Fred, chocko is a premiership coach and nick stevens is a grub, a premiershipless one at that

'I remember carlton fans squealing when hamill walked out.'

So do I. They needed to grow up as well and there are some that still do. All clubs have them. Unfortunately one of ours was the Club President. But at least he wasn't the coach.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 22 November 2004 04:48 (twenty-one years ago)

The true test of coaching ability comes the years after a premiership. How the incumbent handles the pressures, the egos, the expectations and the hype is the true test.

In recent years, we have seen Malthouse, Sheedy, Pagan, Blight and Matthews all ply their trade with aplomb.

One must wonder whether Williams has it all together.

Methinks that his stab at a dynasty at PA might be a little fragile.

Westener (Westener), Monday, 22 November 2004 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Westerner, youve been potting us all year and youve been wrong, if ever a club and a coach were able to form a dynasty its Port Adelaide.

Perhaps learning about the port adelaide culture and its history will show you that once the roll begins look out, and consider we get our 2 best players back next year.

So who do you barrack for Westerner?

jsa, Tuesday, 23 November 2004 01:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Indeed, jsa, you're right. I never thought that PA would go all the way and said as much. I still do not think that they have the resolve to follow it up.

If I'm wrong, then obviously I'm not much of an "expert", however I do have this underlying feeling that the wheels could fall off down at Alberton.

For your info, I do have a little bit of PA culture and remember attending a GF won by PA at Adelaide Oval about 1967 or '68. Also went to a PA soccer game somewhere in Adelaide in the 80's. Aaahhh the memories.

As for me, I barrack for footy but have a degree of interest in the Eagles and, purely parochially, would like to see the Dockers go all the way.

Westener (Westener), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

The wheels won't fall off that fast. The point about Primus and Francou is well made, although I don't think they'd strengthen the team much in pure manpower terms (sure they're good, but so was the bloke whose place they'd be taking, whoever he may be - I suppose Francou would be the ready made replacement for Carr) but they'd give heaps to the team in desire and motivation and experience if they can return to anywhere near their best.

Williams gives the impression there's still a bit of daylight between his feet and the ground, but in November that still doesn't matter much. Brisbane have shown the 'premiership hangover' is well and truly curable. At this stage I can't see any reason why Port can't at least defend their title in 2005.

What more can i say.............

Trust Jase not to correct Westy in regards to Port's 'Premierships' in the late 1960's LOL. For the record, Port lost the 1967 and 1968 grand final to Sturt who were in the middle of a five flag run (1966-70). From a Norwood point of view however, 1968 is a year best forgotten..

Aaah REB! You've discovered what the power of West End or that other stuff that you guys drink in Adelaide can do to a poor country boy from WA.

I was spending a bit of time in Daw Park Repat Hospital in the late 60's and was invited to the footy GF as a guest of the Sth Aust Cricket Assn. I do remember PA playing in the GF and thought they had won. According to your goodself, I was wrong. What cannot be argued is the end result of an enjoyable afternoon at the footy and had I been able to walk at the time, would have definitely been wearing the wobbly boot. Can you imagine how awkward it is being a bit the worse for wear, in a wheelchair and dying for a leak. Believe me, it's not fun. But we laugh about it now. Good memories.

For all of those good times and subsequent visits to your fair city, I still cannot see Port becoming a power in the competition. I think they have run their race in 2004.

Methinks next year we will be a bit like that Al bloke and have the "Year of the Cat" or "Up Up and Away" with the Eagles.

Westener (Westener), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Westy you must be the oldest bloke in Australia LOL...Up Up and Away?? When did Mozart compose that one ha ha

I used to go to that high school accross the road from the Repat. We used bludge lessons and go and smoke cigarettes at the cemetery behind the school. Hence the supreme level of linguistic expression that appears regularly within my posts.

btw, I live in Qld these days so I guess my fair city would be Brisbane..

"btw, I live in Qld these days so I guess my fair city would be Brisbane.."

Which reminds me REB are you coping with the weather? And have you been to the cricket at the Gabba yet?

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Friday, 26 November 2004 04:47 (twenty-one years ago)

No complaints Gorilla Girl. Except the sun gets up even earlier than the Power against Richmond at Girlee Stadium. Can't get over how light it is at five in the bloody morning!! I'll get used to it eventually I suppose.

No, haven't been to the Gabbatoir yet, might get along to the Chappell Hadlee cup, funds a bit low at the mo.

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Monday, 29 November 2004 02:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes REB this is one of their arguments against day light saving up here (!!!) the sun's up early enough without us waking it earlier! lol And it's not even summer yet.

Get in quick for your tickets to the Chappell Hadlee match, I got mine weeks ago and was pushing to get a reasonably priced seat. Looking forward to my Gabba hit.

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Monday, 29 November 2004 03:31 (twenty-one years ago)

The Chappell the Chappell-Hadlee Cup is named after is Trevor of course?

Can't see the concept getting off the ground....

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I see you wit has not deserted you Fred - is this what you would call and underhanded remark about someone else!
