West Coast "BIG" Full Forward

On Monday night on "The Couch" Robert Walls made the comment that the Eagles need a "big" full forward like Barry Hall etc.. We do have one, Brad Smith did his knee in a pre-season match.... could have kicked a few goals for us maybe? What do you guys think will happen to him in 2006 - another shot or delisted?

Christina Reed, Wednesday, 31 August 2005 11:34 (twenty years ago)

Is this the same Brad Smith that played at Collingwood a few years back?

For West Coast to win the flag either MacDougall or Seaby HAS to step up, pronto or preferably sooner. Without a tall forward with the ability to dominate they will be lucky to win a final. Hansen? Maybe next year, as far as 2005 is concerned his injury seems to have knocked the stuffing out of him.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

Is that the same Brad Smith who played in the SANFL for Norwood and Glenelg?

Fred, REB

Brad Smith was a mature age draftee(25yo I think) from Subiaco. I don't think he played in SA and certainly not for the Pies.

Fast lead, long accurate kick and a powerful body. Would probably have been very useful to the Eagles this year but did a knee in the first Q of the first Wiz Cup match.

Westener (Westener), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

I don't think he played SANFL or AFL yet, he was drafted last year from Subiaco as a full forward - kicked over 100 goals for them in 2004.

Christina Reed, Wednesday, 31 August 2005 21:51 (twenty years ago)

The coast will be alright they have big quenton..... reminds me a lot of brett chalmers, big unit with very limited talent

jsa, Wednesday, 31 August 2005 23:01 (twenty years ago)

He's better than Brett Chalmers....the 1997 Grand Final hero LMAO. Cripes, Peter Street is better than Brett Chalmers.

The Big Q is a very fast runner. Just ask the WA Police.

Westener (Westener), Thursday, 1 September 2005 00:36 (twenty years ago)

Quenton Lynch will be remembered in 10 years for two things: being called Quenton, and having the second biggest conk in the AFL (behind Michael Furrito of the Roos).

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Thursday, 1 September 2005 00:56 (twenty years ago)

Welcome Christina Reed.

How did you find this forum?

chrisso (chrisso), Thursday, 1 September 2005 01:30 (twenty years ago)

LMAO Fred...I had to look twice at your post there ha ha.

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Thursday, 1 September 2005 01:45 (twenty years ago)

Chrisso... I found this sight when I was googling around looking for number one draft picks in the past 5 years.

Thanks for the welcome

Christina, Thursday, 1 September 2005 02:04 (twenty years ago)

Fred... He won't be remembered for being Quenton because his name is Quinton (I don't know which is worse though).

Christina, Thursday, 1 September 2005 02:07 (twenty years ago)

Welcome Christina Reed, from Lucy Lion in Brisbane. Don't know Brad Smith other than the Journo that used to work for Channel 9 in Perth but then I think that was Brad Schmitt come to think of it!

You can't have Barry Hall I plan to get Lethal Leigh to draft him to Brisbane! :)

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Thursday, 1 September 2005 08:41 (twenty years ago)

What's Troy Wilson doing these days anyway?

I did see a photo of him racing a Sprintcar in WA last summer - did he become another 'footballer/property developer'?

Bennö (Bennö), Thursday, 1 September 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

Troy had his 15 minutes and now has faded into obscurity. You're right Benno, he did have a brief foray into sprintcars but have seen nothing on him recently.

Will probably pop up, without a shirt, on Dancing with the Stars.

Westener (Westener), Thursday, 1 September 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
Troy Wilson's still in the sprintcar caper... he raced in the AHG Sprintcar Series which doesn't kick off again until November. I think he was named Most Improved Driver last season. He retired for East Perth in the WAFL 3 rounds into this year, and bought an earth-moving business he was working for; not sure how that's going, I haven't seen him in a few months.

Anyway, re Brad Smith, very good full forward. Looks like he's bulked up since his Subi days and should be good for us. He's a good lead and accurate kick. :)

Lee-Ann, Sunday, 18 September 2005 04:16 (twenty years ago)

fancy wasting this many posts on a hack

jsa, Monday, 19 September 2005 23:58 (twenty years ago)

You can talk Jase, you've been crying about a squib for two seasons now.

regards,

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 01:03 (twenty years ago)

but the squib im complaing about has some sort of ability and can play the game

Troy wilson has less ability than quentin lynch

jsa, Tuesday, 20 September 2005 01:12 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, he has such little ability that he won EPFC's fairest and best last year, by a fair margin too iirc.

And please people, his name is Quinten. ;)

Lee-Ann, Tuesday, 20 September 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

and you point is?

jsa, Wednesday, 21 September 2005 00:28 (twenty years ago)

Anybody with two legs and half a brain could most likely win the B&F for East Peterborough FC.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 02:21 (twenty years ago)

Ohhh I'm bleeding now LOL. East Petersborough hey? Don't think I've heard that one before.

Not sure what your point was either, jsa...

Anyway let's just see how our current forward line goes on Saturday. We have a few options on the list, just need them to show more consistency. Should hopefully come with experience.

Lee-Ann, Wednesday, 21 September 2005 07:51 (twenty years ago)

It's a bit late to still be sorting out your options Lee.

Lynch was dumped on form (not a moment too soon), McDougall was the Great White Hope last year but he's done zilch this year, Matera will be cold as clay if they pick him, Sampi has been patchy (and I'm being generous). A bit too much depends on two dubious match-fitness propositions in Gardiner and Hansen. Hunter might help out like he did in the first week, but if a few Swans forwards like Goodes or O'Laughlin do a bit better this time they might not be able to afford to move him up forward.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 08:23 (twenty years ago)

I realise that, I meant for next year and beyond (sorry should have made myself a bit clearer).

Pre-season this year I'd have envisaged Lynch at CHB but once McDougall and Smith went down we threw him up forward. With McDougall I know what he's capable of, but he has struggled a lot with injuries/fitness throughout his career (like Gaspar), and as such hasn't been able to show a lot outside of last season. I don't think Matera's fit anyway (injury-wise, never mind match fitness), but we'll see. Sampi has worked hard in terms of his chasing and tackling etc, but has struggled to show that much as a goalsneak. If Glass and Gaspar can hold things down back, then Hunter could go forward... Gaspar's another forward option himself. I agree that we're a bit suspect still - and probably will be seen that way until/unless we can win a premiership. Going into this Saturday, I'd have to admit Sydney's probably a bit more balanced but I'm still quietly confident. :)

Lee-Ann (willo-selly kenobi), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 12:09 (twenty years ago)

Who will be the match up on Gardiner? A tough one for coach Roos.

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

Leaping Leo.

chrisso (chrisso), Thursday, 22 September 2005 01:54 (twenty years ago)

Ohhh I'm bleeding now LOL. East Petersborough hey?

LOL

You've been Nerked.:-)

chrisso (chrisso), Thursday, 22 September 2005 01:57 (twenty years ago)

Yes, the obvious first choice there Susso but there's a fair old size difference there.

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Thursday, 22 September 2005 01:59 (twenty years ago)

Do I detect doubts from the dispassionate tipsters?

Westener (Westener), Thursday, 22 September 2005 02:24 (twenty years ago)

REB, the Leapster will run Gardiner him all day, and the one mark Gardiner gets will pale into comparison of the 20 ground level possessions Leapin Leo will have.

The loss of Braun will kill the Coast - he is their go-to seagull that flutters along between the 50 arc's getting uncontested possessions. With him gone, Judd/Cousins/Kerr will all have to work that bit harder - and the Swans band of taggers will not let them have an easy possession all day.

Bennö (Bennö), Thursday, 22 September 2005 02:25 (twenty years ago)

If the Leapster *shakes head* runs the Garden all day, How is to take Hansen, will they use Hunter up there as well? As for Braun he was ably replaced by young Selwood against the Cows.

I think the Egirls will win and win well, although it gives me little joy to say it.

regards,

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Thursday, 22 September 2005 21:03 (twenty years ago)

Then don't say it.:-)

Go Swannies.

chrisso (chrisso), Friday, 23 September 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

Perhaps one of the biggest questions to be asked is who will take BBB? Will it be Glass, who has showed good form on Barry in the past or will it be Gaspar who, with BBB, will be the luckiest pair to be playing this game?

Is it possible that BBB will punch Gaspar in the stomach and cop an elbow to the head at the same time. Both might sit out the rest of the game injured.
