what will the Freo / Saints outcome be?

well what a finish, as I am not a fan of either team I'm not real fazed, but what a dilema, which way will it go?

Draw?

or

Win to Freo?

the way I see it the siren went before the kick, but the umpire called for time to stop during and before the ball up which is when the siren went.

Jason Godwell (thsadmin), Sunday, 30 April 2006 10:33 (twenty years ago)

I think Freo have a very strong argument because the rules state that the timekeeper must blow the siren until the umpire sticks both his arms in the air - he didn't.

One club is going to be unhappy whatever the AFL decide to do.

Personally, I think they should give the points to Freo.

chrisso (chrisso), Sunday, 30 April 2006 11:04 (twenty years ago)

They were reporting on the radio that the timekeeper pressed the button and sounded the siren, he's then gone to gather his gear together and looked up a few seconds later to see all hell breaking loose. ROTFLMAO!

Poor old Freo, my heart goes out to them.

Can you imagine how much worse it could have been had Baker kicked his second shot at goal? And when did the umpires realise that time was up? Was it when they saw Connolly and the Freo coaching staff along with Michael Roberts on the ground? LOL

Should be an interesting week.

Bring 'em out for twenty minutes on Tuesday night like St. Kilda and Essendon did after the infamous Waverly blackout of '96.

Except in this case - start the game from when Freo was leading by a point and give it twenty seconds.

Well they can't blame the officials in Brisbane/Sydney for this one - phew!

Supposition: If the game does not end until the controlling official hears the siren, blows the whistle and raises his arms... how come they are still not playing? If he hasn't heard the siren they should be about 18hours(rough estimate out of my a***) into the final quarter.

Seriously I think it's absolutely appalling, the game and points should go to Fremantle and the Umpire should be dropped to the twos for a few weeks, have his hearing checked and the officials in Lauceston should get a new siren!

However, even with an investigation I bet nothing changes:
1. The TAB have already paid out for a draw
2. I've already received notice of my tipping results - damn I'd picked Freo.
There is no way they are going to change anything with all that money involved. History for 2006 - Freo were robbed.

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Sunday, 30 April 2006 23:17 (twenty years ago)

TAB isn't the be-all and end all. There are plenty of cases where horses have been excluded after the result, and in motorsport, drivers excluded after the result.

Freo were robbed, give them the points. Punters etc are stuffed, but that is the risk you take betting on sports.

I agree with Lucy - get Launceston a new siren. And make it loud enough to be heard in Hobart...

Bennö (Bennö), Monday, 1 May 2006 00:32 (twenty years ago)

"I agree with Lucy - get Launceston a new siren. And make it loud enough to be heard in Hobart..."

Aker, I think we've found the perfect job for you after you've finished playing.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 1 May 2006 01:30 (twenty years ago)

I agree with Lucy...

That's it I'm leaving far too many people agreeing with me! :)

As for you Fred - it's a well known fact Aker what's to run an AFL league in Japan!

What's to stop a disgruntled punter filing a lawsuit?

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 1 May 2006 01:45 (twenty years ago)

Typical Collingwood attitude Jason, 'I don't follow either club so I'm not fazed'...next time it MIGHT be the Pies getting plainly and clearly ripped off.

The result SHOULD be a win to Freo, but the rules say the game ends when the umpires hear the siren, and when they did scores were level which will be the official result of the game.

Not for the first time, St Kilda get gifted two premiership points at the expense of an 'interstate' team. Not good enough by the timekeepers, Aurora Stadium and the AFL.

regards,

REB

I have a feeling that natural justice will prevail today, and the Saints will lose the ill gotten 2 points. I hope that smug prick Thomas loses his job too - with him as coach, they will never win the flag...

Bennö (Bennö), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 23:40 (twenty years ago)

I have the same feeling..........

chrisso (chrisso), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 00:08 (twenty years ago)

That Thomas is a smug prick?

REB - according to one writer yesterday, the non-controlling umpire at the far end of the field heard the siren and sprinted to the centre square to tell the controlling ump but stopped, cupping his ear trying to hear the (expected) continuous siren until the controlling ump signalled that he had heard it.

The whole thing is a schemozzle, but give the Dockers the 4 points, and the whole thing will be forgotten by the end of Rivalry Round.

Bennö (Bennö), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 00:48 (twenty years ago)

That Thomas is a smug prick?

Pretty much every thing you said, actually.

but give the Dockers the 4 points, and the whole thing will be forgotten by the end of Rivalry Round.

Agree again. I(f they make the draw stand it will linger the whole year. Could you imagine if the WAnchors missed the 8 by two!

chrisso (chrisso), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 01:48 (twenty years ago)

Freo get the points!

chrisso (chrisso), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 07:38 (twenty years ago)

Wonder who'll be the next club to try it on? If Freo can strong-arm the AFL, by my reckoning just about anyone can.

Could have said it better myself Chrisso.

Nice get Chrisso. Anybody who uses the word 'bias' as an adjective blows 95% of his cred in one hit.

Someone should remind that sanctimonious self-righteous goose that he can't handball the moral development of his kids to anybody, least of all the AFL. If he really expects the AFL to be pillars of integrity he shouldn't ever be let out of the house without supervision.

Someone should ring DOCS.

More 'gold' at Saintsational:
This is an email I have just sent to Andrew Demetriou;

Mr Demetriou,

As a fully paid up social club member of St Kilda Football Club I accept the decision of the AFL Commission regarding the Rd 5 clash v Freemantle in Launceston. I also commend the Board of St Kilda FC for not taking any further action on this matter.

I believe that both Ron Evans and yourself were correct to apologise to both the St Kilda & Freemantle Football Clubs for the controversy caused by the AFL that embroiled both clubs. The damage that the AFL caused to both clubs, especially St Kilda would have been considerable yet difficult to measure. I further believe that the sincerity of the apology is somewhat tainted by the fact that it was delivered in the sterile environment of an AFL Media Conference. It is highly unlikely that many, if any of the assembled media were members of either club.

I am offering you the opportunity to make the same apology to St Kilda people this coming Saturday when St Kilda plays the Western Bulldogs at Telstra Dome. I invite you to join me at 1.30pm in the Victory Room (St Kilda Social Club Venue for home games) where I will accept your apology on behalf of my fellow St Kilda members and supporters. I am sure that your sincerity could not be questioned should you agree to this.

I can be contacted on 0418 *** *** at any time if you wish to discuss this invitation. I will even pay the $5.00 admission to the Victory Room for you. I am sure that St Kilda Football Club & Telstra Dome security would be able to guarantee your safety should you agree to this

I look forward to hearing from you sometime between now and Saturday

Regards

Eastern !!

Chances of that email being sent: Same as Essendon's this weekend (ie 50-50 at best)

Chances of Fat Andy reading it: Same as Carlton's

Chances of FA turning up at the Dome as requested: Same as chrisso's of replacing Kevin Sheedy as coach of Essendon before Round 9

Why does Adrian Anderson lean slightly forward and to his right when speaking at a Media Monologue?

Is Adrian Anderson a goose?

What a pair.

Cheers

He'll know it's a load of bollocks, you've spell Freo wrong - it's Fremantle not Freemantle.
