Fred's not my favorite guy, but I still hope he comes back when his ban is through. He's a distinctive presence on the boards.
― Treeship, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 19:09 (seven years ago) link
i'm reading a book on denmark so i can really give him what for
― mh đ, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 19:10 (seven years ago) link

― banfred bann (wins), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 19:14 (seven years ago) link
tt and I watched Men & Chicken the other day, it felt like a wonderfully Dane-hating Danish movie in the grand tradition. what a crisis of morality that nation is going through

I want to see that
― banfred bann (wins), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 19:16 (seven years ago) link
def worth it. ending is wild

― harold melvin and the bluetones (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 19:18 (seven years ago) link
All I can say is I hope he never runs into Boaby Gillespie.

probably give him a two hour speech on how opiate addiction isn't a thing in denmark and how it should be addressed elsewhere
― mh đ, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 19:22 (seven years ago) link
tbf his thing was usually "this is also a thing in Denmark and here's how it should be &c"
― banfred bann (wins), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 19:25 (seven years ago) link
ah, true
― mh đ, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 19:31 (seven years ago) link
Why does it say he's banned permanently when it's only 30 days. Disappointing!
His thing seemed to be to do fairly extensive internet-based research to invariably arrive at the conclusion that something is stupid
― badg, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 19:33 (seven years ago) link
what would fred b and momus interacting be like
― mh đ, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 19:42 (seven years ago) link
fp'd him telling myself this one's for democracy freddie
― F⯠A⯠(â), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 19:42 (seven years ago) link
Fred had interesting things to say about films - he is very attentive at a formal level, not that common on ilx - and I hope he returns.

it's cos he learnt english from a textbook

That wasn't what I was saying, or implying, and find yr comment in poor taste.

I spent a lovely afternoon in Copenhagen once. Really makes u think.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 20:47 (seven years ago) link
So does '62'd' mean this was slow modding, not starting the required procedure once he hit 51? I thought that process was automated tbf.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 20:51 (seven years ago) link
i gave him a bunch after the ban already was posted but i can't speak for anyone else

never actually read his posts above the gentlest skim but they seemed to really be getting everyone tied up
― flopson, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 21:17 (seven years ago) link
FP'd in solidarity
fwiw I don't think a single person flagging posts in the same thread actually adds to the SB number, although I may be off
― mh đ, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 22:36 (seven years ago) link
deems is the only one who understands FP, including the mods
― mark s, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 22:38 (seven years ago) link
pretty quick turnaround from his call to arms to community action, so i'd believe it
― mh đ, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 22:40 (seven years ago) link
p. sure that for 51-related purposes, you can only fp a poster once. which will then expire after a ban or six months, whichever happens first
thus fred got flagged by 62 different posters at least once in the last six months and the rest was gravy
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 22:47 (seven years ago) link
yeah that is my understanding of the process
― sleeve, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 22:51 (seven years ago) link
There are barely 62 ppl on ilx so it's a statistical certainty he fp'd himself. Comforting to know that, in the end, he understood

I watched a Danish show recently -- it involved a mentally ill woman who was a sociopath as a teen who talked to her miscarried fetus that she kept in her purse. Kinda pissed Fred is banned, so he can't respond to my assumptions that most Danish women carry miscarried fetuses in their handbags and talk to them when they are alone.
― sarahell, Wednesday, 7 December 2016 14:12 (seven years ago) link
that's pretty well controlled -- I was under the impression they just talk to their handbags all the time
