Would you create a partner for Frankenstein?

Put yourself in young Victors shoes. Your ugly duckling shows up. He's killed your younger brother, but he seems real broke up about it. He promises you that he'll relax if you make him a partner. He seems like a nice guy, despite all the murdering and framing. WDYD????

You forget to mention the most critically vital factor of all: as young Victor, you are the imaginary creation of an omnipotent author, who is capable of overriding your will, your rationality, and your very instinct for survival, all in the service of her narrative. Therefore you shall unerringly choose to do whatever shall best serve the requirements of your authorial deity. The real question is WWMSD?

advocate for women's rights, of course

so yeah i find it a lot easier to put myself in the shoes of the author than the shoes of either the young doctor or the monster

Ta-Nehisi Coates: "Don't say you know what you would have done. You don't know." He was talking about the Civil War, but still.

But I think I'd say yes, then run away, because if I submit to blackmail, where will it end, and I'm Victor.

I figure if I've already done all the dirty work of making one guy, I might as well make more. Feel like Frankenstein was a bad scientist tbh: one result that he didn't like and he gets all icked out about trying to replicate the process? He'll never pass peer review that way.

Think you're actually thinking of the author's mother there?

Thw "monster" is demanding standing, recognition, and reparations from Dad, as the author might from her brilliant father, bigamous hub-and/or-daddy-of-mostly-dying babies (stuck w heavy friends inside The Year Without A Summer, for a start).

One doesn't! But Mary Shelley was conflicted on the topic:

A woman, finally, who when asked about the question of women’s rights that had been so passionately espoused by her own mother, answered, “I am not a person of opinions. On some topics (especially with regard to my own sex), I am far from making up my mind.”
