Hi. I'm a mostly-lurker whose only contributions of note to ILX is a) voting in the Comic Strip poll for the comics that cop the most scorn from sic, and b) for coming third in the most recent season of Marvel Puzzle Quest for ILX's alliance.

Can I please be provided access to 77?

Anyone with a registered ILX username can request access.

In that case may I have access, please. No malicious intent, just curiosity after seeing constant references to it.

Sometimes I think about posting but most of the time I just lurk ILX. Am very curious about 77 and would love to gain access (though I would understand if you guys are a bit careful right now).

Out of curiosity, pplains, where did this come from, because it's new to me and not the way (as a mod) I understand the 77 rules?

i have always been under the impression that access to 77 was confined to pretty active members of the community, not just any old rando.

that requests are sometimes denied is not proof that it's not easy to get in, because it is, provided you're not brand new/suspicious

it's been a long time now, but iirc this policy changed as a result of someone (probably continually and with disregard) posting 77 content on non-77 threads. a mod (iirc jjusten) made public all of 77 in retaliation, everyone yelled at him, the mods undid that, and as a result the policy is basically anyone can get in who wants

one imo instructive thing from the max/jordan/77 thread is that, aside from cleaning up spam and such, mods aren't really needed here in a decision-making capacity. in another era, the first several posts of that thread would have led to someone hastily banning max and jordan from the board, which would have led to a 1000-post shitshow. what happened instead is that the community discussed the issue, a couple of important players said their piece, and a rough consensus was reached, with which no one seems to take issue

Yeah but someone claims to have lurked since ____ but there's no way to verify lurking, so my q was: are there other ways to determine veracity of such a claim and/or eliminate possibility of false pretenses? My guess is no.

Sure, but (for example) saying "I read and re-read the collections as a kid and enjoyed them" isn't a valid defence when caught by surprise at Murray Ball's misogyny. It just made me think about why I wanted to access 77, and what active contributors to that board (and also the public ones, with the exception of COGH - fuck those guys) would gain from my being allowed entry. I'd get a few more entertaining threads to waste time reading, and ILXors would feel slightly more skeeved out about a stranger trawling through posts at least some of them considered to be private/restricted.

Anyway, I resolve to be more participatory. Prepare to be underwhelmed!
