according to mr. raggett the search function works fine but almost every time i have tried to use it recently, it just hangs there, not doing anything for ages and after a few minutes i give up. do i need to give it even more time?

How general are your parameters? I used it twice this morning for fairly specific terms and got my results almost as fast as "New Answers" comes up.

lots of words bad. short words v bad.

using the search link at the bottom (rather than the quick box in the top right) gives you more power too. my fave trick is to restrict the date you are searching using before/after offsets in days

hmmm. i tried very specific terms and restricting the date but still nothing happened at all. i wonder if it is due to using safari? i'll try downloading firefox and see if using that works.

TICK DA BOX

ah, I'd seen that but assumed it was just a general google search box, like for folks who don't use firefox or whatever. duh.

Speaking of which, I wish that search box would let you search all of ILX in one go, rather than restricting you to a specific board.

It can sometimes take many minutes to come up with a set of results, I usually leave it to do its thang.
