repeated death threats

not really sure what if anything mods would or could do about this but the death threats (if you want to call them that) from morbs to me and other folks seem to be increasing in frequency and directness. i've flagged posts on occasion but i'm not sure if that has any effect.

apologies if this is a redundant post or if this is the wrong forum, i almost never peek behind the curtain so to speak and am not up on ILX mod policies. :)

i was temporarily banned. and that was the right thing to do. i also apologized, it was years ago, and it happened once. i would also argue that aside from all that, the context was different, but that's probably a losing "argument," such as it is.

in any event, i apologize if this thread bothers anyone. mods csn feel free to delete if it doesn't add anything.

I would agree that morbs' bile has gotten more bilious over time and his anger sometimes gets out of control, resulting in ever nastier and more personal insults. a temp ban might be in order, if only to teach him that ilx has boundaries on such matters and crossing them leads to consequences. I say this as someone who has some real sympathy for his political anger, but very little respect for how he hurls it at persons, not positions.

I don't think these really qualify as threats as much as general expressions of hatred, even so whether or not the latter is too extreme to be acceptable is a reasonable question to ask.

morbs is hateful in all senses of the word, no duh, idk about increasingly. I don't see anything in the linked tantrum to rate anything beyond a regular fp tho tbh

I was skimming the thread that day so lightly that I didn't even know who Morbs was referring to — it could have been amateurist or anybody holding elected office in the US govt. Or anybody living in the US, or anybody living. And I took it to mean "I wish you were dead" rather than "I'd kill you if I had the opportunity," and I further took "I wish you were dead" to mean "I wish I were dead." None of that may be mitigating.

look, morbs hasn't made death threats to me in the nature of "i will meet you at such-and-such a place and punch your brains out" (although it appears he's made such threats to others here, whether or not he meant for anyone to take them seriously). but he has repeatedly wished for my death, and those of other people he disagrees with on ILX.

i don't know who morbs is IRL (i'm not particularly curious). i honestly don't know what his personality is like offline and if he's the sort of person who is likely to do anyone harm, or has done anyone harm. i don't know whether i should be concerned about him. it's a little unsettling that i even have to wonder about this.

obviously the best thing (in all senses) i could do is just to ignore him. but i wouldn't like to think that ILX is kind of place where the price for not ignoring somebody, is to put up with posts like "i know a fucking pigshit moron who needs to die" every few days or weeks, and to have to wonder how much the author means it.

I think Obama would describe him in person as "likable enough"
