Please unlock this thread(s)

So, the 'Please lock this thread' thread has been locked for a few days, which seems probably not entirely healthy.

I thought I'd ask:

i) whether it can be unlocked
i-1) whether it should be cleaned up - I suspect that no-one would mind much if everything since the new revive was scrubbed (but I might well be wrong)
ii) same question for the Mountain Goats thread that caused this
ii-1) same other question for the Mountain Goats thread
ii-2) if it was scrubbed (which had some but not total support) would that be 'now start the discussion again' or 'now don't ever mention this again'?

This should probably be obvious, but what I'm looking for is not 'hey can we have the discussion again in this thread'

i) yes, and maybe yes to cleanup, but why not just start a new thread?

ii) we are going to let the cooling off period continue for a little while

I wonder why we didn’t do all this thread locking and cooling off when Jordan’s Gawker story blew up in the media, but instead debated about kicking him off the forum.

Any guidance now the tMG thread is unlocked?

take the thread's temperature before posting? make sure it's cooled off sufficiently? tbh, I understand locking the thread if everyone in there really is an off-board friend of tMG. I still think that a more complete vindication would have resulted, but there would have been some more shit-posting at both parties peppered in. The mountain goat himself seemed to be taking the high road, so maybe it's better to just move on. That is my own guidance for myself.

eh, I don't think it's as simple as that, and I can relate to Andrew's confusion over the whole episode.

Really? Please elaborate, as I don't see what the confusion might be here.

this place has a large overlap of people who care enough about tMG to talk about a tMG-related anything and people who generally have well thought out opinions. so it seems like a good place to have the discussion. however, I can see why it's a bad place to have the discussion if everyone is best buds with tMG off board.

Call me crazy, but I think the latter category ("best buds") will naturally show the desired restraint (ie. not post), and others should be free to carry on the discussion as they wish. The new ep for one is a good talking point.

My point is can we not just trust ilx a little bit to keep this from spiraling out of control, without a mod having to close and reopen shop? (the popular answer would be 'no ofcourse not ilx is shit', and yet history has proven otherwise)

Like I said in my first post since the revive, I’m not an off-board friend, but I know people who are, and I am a fan, but on the other hand I think it should be discussed - which is why I was asking above - is it the case that any discussion of it will bring the mod hammer down or just the discussion that we were having?
