What's the difference between Pop and Rock if we take both as being subgenres of the genre Popular Music?

I was just about to post a lenghty answer, and I can see no reason at all for it to be locked.

No! Leave it locked! My last post was on the money and it was just about to get stupid anyway.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 27 July 2006 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

I thought there was still things to be said. Still, why the hell lock it?

I though his mod privileges were taken away 'cause he deleted threads on random basis or something...

reason for locking: topic has been done to death before really. my initial reaction to thread was 'oh let's not do this again' but as with the recent Britpop/Spice Girls thread i do actually seem to enjoy arguing about this stuff over and over again.

with all due respect to Jess, he doesn't even post to ILM anymore beyond the occasional damning single-sentence verdicts on everyone but Herbert so I don't think he really has due cause to lock these kinds of threads (but by all means continue to lock troll threads, spam threads or the ones that do not even try to pose a question in a relatively/reasonably intelligent way regardless of whether it's been asked several times before).

I feel so uncool.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 27 July 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

Haha, Steve.

In the lack of any explanation from Jess, I'm guessing he's invoking the "Clover Clause":

While not encouraged, moderators will at times take apparently arbitrary action against general idiocy when the signal-noise ratio exceeds their personal sanity threshold. When they do so, this is generally both unfortunate and completely understandable.

I'll admit that I groaned inwardly when I saw the thread title - stevem otm, basically - and had it been anyone other than nick s asking it, I might have booted it straight across to the ITR.

If a topic gathers tens of answers in a couple of hours, it means some people want to discuss the topic, hence it should be allowed to live. Not everyone has read all the previous threads from the last six years.

It seems to be keeping Marcello and a few others entertained so perhaps it's best left.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 27 July 2006 14:13 (nineteen years ago)

HPSTRKRFT (haitch), Thursday, 27 July 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

i shouldn't be posting on there since I liked it locked, it fulfilled all its potential to become a hateful thread despite interesting core question, but that ffff dude makes me see red so badly. :(

stop moving. (cis), Thursday, 27 July 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

i'm just thoroughly opposed to locking threads i post on, truth be told.

"In rock, you must be young, or at least young-like in order to function properly. You must be able to thrust out your hips and rub your dick/pussy and say, "Ungh!" and really MEAN IT -- mean everything -- mean the whole gloriously cum-drenched fucking universe.

That (particularly adolescent) feeling and point-of-view is the essence of rock 'n' roll."

Ewwwwwww.

TS: Narc vs whiny bitches in the corner spending all their time whining about ILM (without actually contributing anything of note to it themselves, 'take the power back' etc.)

i get more annoyed by the latter than the people who just start dumb threads on it, apparently.
