on noise board where i am admin posting with unicode in the anon admin field gives me "an error occured"

Yeah, I can see the error in the log. The user roles table is latin_1 (an accident; it defaults to this. I was going to fix it at some point, but it doesn't really matter much on that table); I think it's got a problem mixing the latin 1 collation type with the UTF-8 one and throwing an error. I'll have to test this pretty thoroughly though when I get the chance. Changing the character type on a table could have some messy consequences if it doesn't work entirely as expected.

If you mean on that arr thread, it did work correctly. It just doesn't let you see pictures when you're a mod; it turns them into hyperlinks.
