Regardless of whatever quarrels we may or may not have, this is something which should have been communicated to me privately, and there are legal implications with regard to what he posted as it may count as professional libel.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 28 April 2004 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

could you highlight exactly the part that is libellious?

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

i've been a fleet street journalist for 7 years. avoiding/circumventing libel is one of the most important functions of anyone in a senior sub-editorial position. i know what i'm talking about when i say that nothing on that board is libellous.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 13:03 (twenty-two years ago)

The phrase "turnabout is fair play" springs to mind.

You've dissed him/his magazine often enough and publicly enough on this messageboard. I think he's perfectly entitled to his defense, personally and professionally.

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

fuck off kate.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 28 April 2004 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

(Why do I now have an image of people shagging on Kate's back like she was a kitchen table?)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Because our films got mixed up at the lab. You sick fuck, by the way.

NERQ (Enrique), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

rule number 1 about ilx is:

1. you don't trust anyone on ilx;
2. you don't trust anyone on ilx.

i dunno. tis all about ego isnt it? just let it quietly fade away, marcello.

doomie x, Wednesday, 28 April 2004 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

3. Doom Patrol will never actually leave no matter how many times he claims it.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

4. Boring Canadians obsessed with their dominion fascinate me. It's unheathly, yes, but hey -- so is smoking.

DOOMA DOOMIE, Thursday, 29 April 2004 00:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry to stop yr pity games, Mr Noodles. Sad bastard.

doomie x, Thursday, 29 April 2004 00:27 (twenty-two years ago)

dave otm

when are people going to get over knee-jerk doomie hate?

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 29 April 2004 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey! I fucked your novel!

Super-Kate (kate), Thursday, 29 April 2004 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

n.b. That was to Marcello. (Doomie, seriously, I wish you would contribute to my ILE "I f*cked your novel" thread. I know you're shy and you think that ILXers will take the piss, but seriously, I think that you could add some interesting commentary and/or discussion if you would be so brave as to talk about your own personal experiences/goals.)

Super-Kate (kate), Thursday, 29 April 2004 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

sigh. its not that i'm *not* brave but doing so would be akin to going 'hey doomie -- do you want to eat this broken glass it is really tasty'. and nothing much to add except two short stories published, some lengthy chats and direction/motivation from a well-known cult authur andsome interest in the book and full-time music journalism (which is done under different name). am refraining from ilx as much as possible. but thanks for the invite.

doomie x, Thursday, 29 April 2004 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

plus found out that this board was direct result of me not getting work at one magazine. which is cool because if the standards are set *there* i probably would have been unhappy.

doomie x, Thursday, 29 April 2004 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, I completely agree that that is fucked up.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 29 April 2004 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

You don't have to talk about your own experience, if you don't like. I'd just like some objective discussion of whether or not journalism is "just good experience" while trying to be a novelist, or a career in its own right. So many people talk about it as the former, that it kind of precludes the idea that anyone could be interested in it as the latter!

Super-Kate (kate), Thursday, 29 April 2004 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, its the same person who emailed my live editor and album reviews editor loads of links to this place trying to get me fired. they just told him, in detail, wot a sad bastard he was. ha ha!

x-post. journalism has made me a better fiction writer. definitely. the discipline and control has improved my writing 1000 percent.

doomie x, Thursday, 29 April 2004 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

they just told him, in detail, wot a sad bastard he was. ha ha!

I'm glad that happened. It's a cool world, sometimes.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 30 April 2004 07:42 (twenty-two years ago)

when are people going to get over knee-jerk doomie hate?

Where to begin.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 30 April 2004 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

you can begin by staring at yr own navel because man i really don't care. onceuponatime in ilx land i did. but fuck it. i've seen the documentation and photographs -- it. just. does. not. factor. in. my. life. like that breakdown?

doomie x, Saturday, 1 May 2004 06:42 (twenty-two years ago)

then why don't you just leave?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 1 May 2004 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)
