Should we delete insanely long postings?

Girolamo has posted about a million words of Proust on For Lazy Proust Lovers (WARNING - Random act of online violence). Good words of course, but it strikes me as malicious when he could have simply provided a link for anyone interested. Then again, it didn't take that long to download even on my steam-driven connection, so maybe it's just not worth it. I'm not sure if we have a policy on this?

I'm irritated with almost everything on ILX lately, but I have this to say: it *really* makes the blog view of the new answers almost impossible to read. A link would have been nice. Seriously. Or else a short question in the first post, details in the second, so that I could see a nice, concise blogged new answers screen, and only get the full text if I choose to...

But, like I said, I've got a short fuse on ILX annoyances lately. I'm on a dialup and it takes forever to download anything. :-(

What Kate said. It seems so completely and relentlessly without point or merit that any reason to delete it seems to cancel the other side out.

I'm really not interested in ILX becoming a content mirror. Quoting news articles is useful, especially when some publishers require 'free registration' to view them, but quoting massive slabs of text when a link would easily suffice is just stupid.

I've deleted such posts in the past, and will continue to do so.

By 'deleted' I mean 'snipped out the huge slap of text'.
