Is it still going? If so, how and why? Can anyone remember anything about it other than a dog called Boot?

Would be okay if I assume that this strip is the zenith of British comics, so that I'm absolutely sure I'm not missing out on anything?

Actually, there's a bundle of old Perishers annuals in the Oxfam, if you feel the need for them, I could sort something out. A nod's as good as a wink to a blind horse etc.

I remember the Buster-like child who was brutally homeless and nearly starved, humourously, in the collection that somehow found its way into our house.

a couple sites from google tell you to keep up with it in the mirror, but the mirror doesn't have comics online. also it is now drawn and written by someone else, like.

It's had lots of people write and draw it over the years and I've never read it much, but I have the impression that it used to be pretty good. If those collections are like under a quid each, I'd go for them, Al - is this an Oxfam I can easily visit?

It's in York... I'll have a look in tomorrow and if they're still there I'll snaffle them up... however, I got an incredibly good deal there last time I was in on an Invisibles Book 1 for £2.50, so it won't be the last amazing deal in that place.

Only comic (more or less) I've bought since the latest couple of Essentials was a Giles volume in a charity shop for 25p. I was happy.

The Perishers used to be grate, roundabout the mid-late seventies - a kind of class-based, 'regional' UK variant/wrinkle on Peanuts, complete w/ self-aware kiddies and talking/thinking animals. There's nothing else quite like it.

Received wisdom has it that the strip went down the toilet when writer Maurice Dodd(s?) took over the artwork as well (I can't think of any other examples where this happened - writer taking over the drawing - tho' I'm sure there are some...)

There was also an animated version w/ voices by Leonard Rossiter!

Uderzo, artist on Asterix, started writing it after Goscinny died; er, unless I've got those names the wrong way around.

As for The Perishers going downhill, I blame thirteen years of Tory misrule. That's what everything else in the strip got blamed on (and rightly so too. Bl**dy Tories.)
