Superhero Team-Ups, S/D; C/D

Douglas mentioned the Superman/Captain Marvel team up in DC Comics Presents, and George Perez has started on the revivified Brave & Bold book, and Marvel had some team-up books too, mostly starring Thing, right?

So, C: DC Comics Presents, though as a lad, I was all about B&B, a recent acquisition of the DCCP run tickled me greatly. Supes + Swamp Thing team-up to fight Solomon Grundy is awesome as is Supes + Clark Kent (OMG) vs. Atomic Skull. Also, I have a soft spot for Supes + Joker in BURBANK. Destroy all Masters of the Universe Inserts and tie-ins, howev (except for the Curt Swan one).

DESTROY: All team ups which have some annoying bit of meta dialogue eg "Hey I guess this is where we fight and team up HYUK HYUK", leave it out eh? This means DESTROY all team-ups since 1999.

FREE PASS: Dan Slott's Spider-Man/Human Torch is exempt from this rule.

The first superhero comics I really got into were a load of Marvel Two In Ones inhereted from my older cousin, which I lapped up. So classic.

Marvel had Marvel Team-Up, which was Spider-Man and whoever (had a particularly good run when peak-era Claremont was writing it & there actually was a continuous thread of continuity between issues despite switching guest stars--plus the Spider-Man and the Not Ready for Prime Time Players team-up is way better than it might've been), plus Marvel Two-In-One, which was the Thing and whoever, and was rarely any good.

And don't forget World's Finest, although that was always the same team-up!

The current Marvel Team-Up (written by Robert Kirkman) bounces around the MU, but does so in organized-arc fashion. It's been spotty, tho. The SIX ISSUE rugby scrum involving Terror Inc., Darkhawk, X-23, Dagger, Arana, Speedball, and a few other D-listers fighting IN THE FUTURE was Dial D for Drab.

Bonus points, tho, for giving the Ringmaster one of the Mandarin's power rings DO YOU SEE?

I think as a kid I gravitated towards Team-Up books because I felt like I was getting more bang for my 45ยข.

Haney-era Brave & Bold & World's Finest are a thing of wonder unto themselves. The bizarre plot machinations Batman had to jump through to team-up with Sgt. Rock for e.g. or when Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne joined a civillian space mission and the Earth blew up after take off and they were still concerned about preserving their secret IDs.

Also, just cuz is awesome, the final issue of B&B with Batman & Batman (though they don't actually team-up in the story, since Batman had been dead for a few years) with TASTY Dave Gibbons (in a dick sprang stylee in part 1) art.
