Perhaps we should re-open the debate about making the board reg-only for a week or two to keep spamb0ts off the board. And even if they do reg, then I'll be able to ban them.

That's an excellent likeness of my mental state. Thanks!

Anyway, I don't see a good way to prevent spammers besides reg-only, but I really dislike the idea of reg-only, too. Basically, I just want that guy with the eyepatch and bandolier to kick the spammers in the crotch until they leave us alone.

Reg-only means we lose our anonymous artist! :-O

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Saturday, 1 July 2006 23:10 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm not the guy who runs the site or has to clean up after the spam, so I'm not going to complain either way. If the Powers That Be want to keep anonymous posting, that's their choice to make, as is the vice to the versa.

Speaking for myself, I shut down commenting on my blog due to this sort of parasitic behaviour. People do indeed suck.

I agree with Matt.

Ringy Funtones has been pestering ILCooking too, but it's worth it to have anonymous folks show up and say HI DERE HOW DO I SHOT MISO. So far it's just been one or two a day. (uh oh, jinxed)

Chill out Austin, I can get you some cheap valium if you want it.

I made ILBooks reg-only, and while we do miss the "What is the meaning of mr darcy i need to know by tomorow" questions... actually, no, I'm not sure I do. Anyway, ILB chugs along.

As one of the bros that's whacking idiot spam, and as one that feels a twinge of disappointment when he sees a long-lost thread revived by ads for dick pills, I support ILC registration.

WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON?

David R. (popshots75`), Sunday, 2 July 2006 14:16 (seventeen years ago) link

On the other hand, sometimes those random thread "revivals" are cool.

YOU THINK THIS "L" STANDS FOR REGISTRATION-L (Huk-L), Sunday, 2 July 2006 15:11 (seventeen years ago) link

I totally jinxed ILCooking, and take back any defense of unregistered users. Grrrrrr

I was, believe it or not, kind of hoping that the word 'ringtones' in the title of this thread would attract the spam here and leave the other threads alone. So much for the flypaper theory.

anyway while i continue to hope that say sergio aragones will vanity-google himself and show up here it's really the mods' call as they're the ones who have to do all the work. and googlers will probably register if they have anything good to say anyway.

My name is Al Ewing and I've been reading comics since I was four years old.
