lol got distracted by work but you already picked up the Vitalic/Ellen Allien & Apparat tracks I would have recommended
"La Rock 01" would have been very high on my track ballot assuming I remembered to nominate it
― emo WINNER! (HI DERE), Thursday, 8 July 2010 18:35 (thirteen years ago) link
if you promise me that there is nothing else like "My Friend Dario" in the vitalic catalog i will prob seek it out once i get home (uh and finish recovering files from my dead hard drive)
― NO NO NO NO NO ok (jjjusten), Thursday, 8 July 2010 18:37 (thirteen years ago) link
also is the female vocal on the ellen allien a regular thing, because that will be a problem.
― NO NO NO NO NO ok (jjjusten), Thursday, 8 July 2010 18:38 (thirteen years ago) link
hahaha i rescind my liars offer, that is the album i hate, never mind
― NO NO NO NO NO ok (jjjusten), Thursday, 8 July 2010 18:46 (thirteen years ago) link
Vitalic's Flashmob album is great, too
btw if you dig the music but are annoyed with the vocalist on EA&A, check out Moderat, specifically "A New Error", "Rusty Nails", "Sick with It" and "Porc #1"
EA&A switch back and forth between her and the dude from Apparat
also lol @ u because u hate gurls

97. RHYTHM & SOUND See Mi Yah (2005) [185 points, 9 votes]
depends on how into reggae you are, as a sound, but this kicks ass
― goole, Thursday, 8 July 2010 19:10 (thirteen years ago) link
hmmm reggae can be a problem
― NO NO NO NO NO ok (jjjusten), Thursday, 8 July 2010 19:11 (thirteen years ago) link
actually it might not, since i'm not the biggest reggae fan in the world and i like that album a lot. heavy as fuck.

Hey im bored, so i am going to defend listening to Liars in the modern day with a song from their new album, which is not the one that made the countdown, because that one sucks.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baq3EjdZ7vw
NOTE: dont get all weird on me and stop listening halfway through, its a slow build and then big payoffs from there you fuckers.

Start sounds exactly like a Drums Not Dead song so I don't get yr point?

bump for my feelings as described in thread title about "dear science" TVOTR

basically oh look a new tv on the radio album lets NAP
― SAIL HATIN' (jjjusten), Thursday, 8 July 2010 22:47 (thirteen years ago) link
oh and re: Liars ick, drums not dead just left me completely cold, maybe the whole annoying 2 character thing and the fact that i couldnt tell the song titles apart and the fact that it was mostly kinda boring i guess? earlier shit was just so unhinged album to album that drums just felt like a rut to me.
― SAIL HATIN' (jjjusten), Thursday, 8 July 2010 22:48 (thirteen years ago) link
goddamn, talk of early liars, you are bringing back memories from 2003 or some such wackity crack year of my life.

also HI DERE u should school me on how to not dislike the yeah yeah yeahs i have been so far incapable of doing so
― SAIL HATIN' (jjjusten), Friday, 9 July 2010 19:43 (thirteen years ago) link
Phoenix seems like a band designed to be used in commercials (ie, their songs are fine for like 15 seconds, but around second 16 you're like "wait this is horrifically annoying, fuck off")
re: YYYs, what have you heard? All I've really heard are "Maps", "Y Control" and It's Blitz!; I think the video for "Y Control" is way better than the actual song, "Maps" is just gorgeous in how the music is arranged and the way she sings it, and IB! pretty much front-to-back is fantastic, especially if you listen to it as a series of EPs rather than an entire album (meaning I usually take "Zero", "Heads Will Roll", "Soft Shock" and "Skeletons" as a unit, then "Dull Life", "Blame and Fortune" and "Runaway" as a unit, and "Dragon Queen", "Hysteric" and "Little Shadow" as a unit).
For me, the album hits its stride around "Dull Life"; however, you are never going to like them because yet again it's a band fronted by a woman with a yelpy laserish voice and by now it is pretty well documented that you hate that type of thing.
― "Don't forget to bring a juggalo towel!" (HI DERE), Friday, 9 July 2010 19:48 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah that might be the big issue tbh
― SAIL HATIN' (jjjusten), Friday, 9 July 2010 19:49 (thirteen years ago) link
also they are the band where the guitar player released a book of photos of their tour and them being AWESOME and doing ROCK AND ROLLING things and pimped it like some art triumph when in fact it was kind of like jerking off into a baggie and trying to get your friends to frame it and hang it on their wall.
― SAIL HATIN' (jjjusten), Friday, 9 July 2010 19:51 (thirteen years ago) link
I am kind of surprised you wouldn't fuck with "Maps" or "Y Control" though considering she's not at all yelpy or laserish on either of those
hxtp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIIxlgcuQRU
xp: but if the book had featured pictures of them jerking off into a baggie that would have been kind of funny; also the guitar player is a massive nerd and should be ignored whenever he's not playing

all i can think of when i hear roison murphy is how much i prefer moloko. its the beth gibbons rustin man to molokos portishead imo.

i also injoy writing sentences that are completely impenetrable unless youve listened to the same albums as me apparently.
Eh, I dig both equally, mostly because her voice in fuckwithable and "Ramalama (Bang Bang) is fucking immense
I don't know Overpowered tho

or "Killa Bunnies"

how people can still rate the hold steady albums after the first 2 is just so ficking baffling to me. by the time i heard the third one it was so clear that "BEEN THERE DONE THAT GOIN HERE AND DOIN IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN" was the modus operandi for that fucking band jesus christ
and i really like the first 2!
― SAIL HATIN' (jjjusten), Monday, 12 July 2010 20:10 (thirteen years ago) link
haha i heard the third one first so
― call all destroyer, Monday, 12 July 2010 20:12 (thirteen years ago) link
actually that's a lie i had written off separation sunday but the third one seemed to have tighter songs. though the last time i listened to s.s. it was a monster, no doubt.
moloko is in my personal "i don't get it" pile
― goole, Monday, 12 July 2010 20:14 (thirteen years ago) link
I think the secret to getting Moloko is digging the first album, then discovering that she can sing like that live and is also like amazing beautiful
― MOATY I'M HERE (HI DERE), Monday, 12 July 2010 20:24 (thirteen years ago) link
ha even that part is "idgi" and i like redheads :/
they just sounded kind of fakey to me, like someone's textbook example of 'experimental literate pop' come to life
but this is not my thread!
― goole, Monday, 12 July 2010 20:25 (thirteen years ago) link
well they definitely started out super theatrical and put on, there's no question about that; you can't do a song like "Fun For Me" or "Where Is the What If the What Is in Why?" and claim 100% earnestness
by the time you get to stuff like "Sing It Back", "Familiar Feeling" and "Forever More" though, the theatricality is less dadaist and more grounded in realistic narrative, and then you have face-meltinginly beautiful things like this:

― MOATY I'M HERE (HI DERE), Monday, 12 July 2010 20:30 (thirteen years ago) link
At one point I thought "I Am Not A Doctor" was the finest album ever recorded and those youtubes are making me think I may just have been right
that wobbling bass noise on "Knee Deepen" is a work of art
not sure I ever actually heard all of Things To Make And Do as I felt kinda betrayed by hit Boris Dlugosch remix etc, but Indigo is a pretty rad song, so I probably should get over decade-old kneejerking
― atoms breaking heart (a passing spacecadet), Monday, 12 July 2010 20:39 (thirteen years ago) link
