<3 thanks sara.

audition is vocalising, sight-singing, ear training. no prepared stuff. doing it w/ a coworker, for moral support.

still scared!

tehresa, Friday, 9 January 2009 17:50 (fifteen years ago) link

I'd be freaked, too (it's been too long) - but you'll be fine. You have ITR behind you!

Sara R-C, Friday, 9 January 2009 17:53 (fifteen years ago) link

Vocalising and ear training should be no big deal what with yr past experience/degrees. Sight-reading is going to suck more, but the important thing is to ask them for time to read through the piece before singing it. Also, stress that you prepare music well.

^likes black girls (HI DERE), Friday, 9 January 2009 17:56 (fifteen years ago) link

Also, ask them if you can sing "Bosnia" by The Cranberries at them.

happy new year guys!

sorry i've been away --

no internet
promotion (but still work in retail) w/ schedule 6am -- 4pm Sunday -- Thursday
new apartment woes (b-room door doesn't close, outlets are busted, mold infestation, overly friendly landlord etc.)
graduate applications

-- but i'm getting back in the swing of things. i honestly sincerely actually aim to return to life as normal pretty soon.

miss you all.

aw. i don't go back til the 27th!

report: audition was relatively quick, no sightreading! first he had me matching little phrases, then he sang 3 phrases and had me join in and sing them over and over til perfect and following his dynamic indications, then we did a canon w/ my coworker. he was pretty intense. we have both passed round 1 but now we will be sent secret music, need to learn both parts (sa for me, tb for him) and when we feel secure, go sing with their section leaders after a rehearsal. after that, they will discuss/vote on whether or not we are in. this is intense!!!!

also, when we went to get coworker for 3-part canonization (lol) he goes, 'oh and hey, no vibrato this time!' and i was like 'asldkgjasldkgj you didn't specify straight tone!' and felt stupid because i guess i should have figured that given the music we were singing. sigh.

tehresa, Saturday, 10 January 2009 01:14 (fifteen years ago) link

hey evan we are drinking in NE at the 331 where a dude i know is playing tonight in his awesome band call me if you are able to escape your doom.

R. L. Stinebeck (John Justen), Saturday, 10 January 2009 01:16 (fifteen years ago) link

wow they are really trying to make this difficult!

Key: Should be in A Major (.5 step lower than the score indicates). The corresponding mp3 is in A Major. You can use the mp3 to practice to.

Meter: 2/2 (score indicates 4/4). You should "feel" 2 beats per/measure.

tehresa, Saturday, 10 January 2009 02:19 (fifteen years ago) link

I think everyone is having a more interesting night than me (except maybe gbx...). And I. Am. Envying.

By next Friday this class will be OVER and then I will have some time to, uh... not be in class, I guess. CANNOT WAIT

Sara R-C, Saturday, 10 January 2009 03:47 (fifteen years ago) link

btw, tza, those instructions are freaking me a bit. But at least they include an mp3 to work with.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 10 January 2009 03:47 (fifteen years ago) link

hahahahahahah wooooooooooooooo!

why did remy move

my current girlfriend's choice of liquid hand soap for the half bathroom uses the exact same fragrance as my high school girlfriend's choice of shampoo. People who think the human brain is amazing are all lunatics.

TOMBOT, Saturday, 10 January 2009 08:37 (fifteen years ago) link

Just the fact that you can remember that proves that the human brain is amazing. I wouldn't be able to detect that...

Stop having so much fun, John! You're making me envious.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 10 January 2009 17:06 (fifteen years ago) link

oh i have hardcore smell memory. i currently have a liquid hand soap that reminds me of a weekend spent away from home with an ex. i have had to train myself to only pay attention to the awesome fragrance and disregard the ex memories because i just like the scent so much. it is pretty much working (also pos because i am not particularly fond of said ex).

tehresa, Saturday, 10 January 2009 18:11 (fifteen years ago) link

LOL tehresa @ "we are going to write out instructions that make this seem more intimidating than it really is"

Also who drops a piece down to A??? Don't their sops have high notes?

^likes black girls (HI DERE), Saturday, 10 January 2009 19:35 (fifteen years ago) link

all your high notes are belong to me

Sara R-C, Sunday, 11 January 2009 02:08 (fifteen years ago) link

ummmmm so the score indicates a-flat major... a major is a .5 step HIGHER than the score indicates you freaks! i wonder if that is a test?

also: i wonder if all this hoops is a test to see who is rly dedicated to joining the choir.

additionally: even .5 step up, highest note would be e natural. maybe it's just not a thing w/ early music? i mean, we're not talking opera star high c's. i think if you have an e in straight tone you're pretty solid as far as the tessitura for the stuff they do? not sure. i know it's hella easier for me to sing higher in straight tone than full voice/vibrato-y.

tehresa, Sunday, 11 January 2009 02:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Suddenly annoying, unclear nursing school assignment seems less intimidating. At least I don't have to sing it in front of anyone! ;)

Sara R-C, Sunday, 11 January 2009 05:15 (fifteen years ago) link

It would be so awesome if you did, though

tehresa, Sunday, 11 January 2009 06:39 (fifteen years ago) link

Well, it would make classtime a lot more interesting on some levels...

Sara R-C, Sunday, 11 January 2009 07:48 (fifteen years ago) link

You should totally point out that the key is A-flat major to them!

In most early music, you do stuff down a half-step because A wasn't 440 then. The range shouldn't be too high because most of the parts were sung by men anyway.

^likes black girls (HI DERE), Sunday, 11 January 2009 13:12 (fifteen years ago) link

yes.

tehresa, Sunday, 11 January 2009 15:16 (fifteen years ago) link

When will you get the Final Verdict, tza?

Sara R-C, Monday, 12 January 2009 03:23 (fifteen years ago) link

When indeed? Hopefully soon!

Work crunch more or less over, so I'm feeling far more relaxed. Helps that the sinus infection is finally mostly gone too...

Ned Raggett, Monday, 12 January 2009 16:04 (fifteen years ago) link

hey guys, just so you know I have just decided that "Bosnia" by The Cranberries is our official theme song, mostly for gut-wrenching lolz
