I was going to poll the individual songs on this but there are 55 of them in the list and I couldn't pick any to cull. It's an EXTREMELY accurate reflection of my listening habits between the ages of 13 and 26, down to specific song choice ("Real Real Real" as the Jesus Jones song is some "wtf get out of my head" algorithm voodoo). Kind of surprised there's nothing by The Prodigy in there, though:

Moldavia - Front 242
Sackville - Inspiral Carpets
Three Days - Jane's Addiction

Progen 91 (I.R.P. In the Land Of Oz) - The Shamen

There are many songs I haven't listened to, so 'what the hell is this shit', I guess?

Outside of the hip-hop, R&B, Janes Addiction and Groove is in the Heart, there is literally nothing on that list remotely in my wheelhouse, and only a few other songs I have even heard. I remember the Jesus Jones song and it's fine, and Can't Fight This Feeling is good I guess.

Here is the overlapping portion of our Venn diagram

Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos - Public Enemy
DJ’s Take Control (Original Version) - Sl2
Progen 91 (I.R.P. In the Land Of Oz) - The Shamen
Psyche-Out - Meat Beat Manifesto
Brothers Gonna Work It Out - Public Enemy
Sunshine - Jungle Brothers
I Give To You - Nitzer Ebb
Happiest Girl - 2006 Remastered Jack Mix - Depeche Mode
Peek-A-Boo - Siouxsie and the Banshees
Grand Verbalizer, What Time Is It? - X-Clan
Love U More - Sunscreem
Real Real Real - Jesus Jones
The Power Of Lard - Lard
The Only Rhyme That Bites (Extended Mix) - 808 State
Run–D.M.C. - King Of Rock
We Will Rock You - Queen
Kill Your Television - Ned's Atomic Dustbin
It Takes Two - Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock
The Humpty Dance - Digital Underground
Samba Magic - Basement Jaxx
Poison - Bell Biv DeVoe
Groove Is In The Heart - Deee-Lite
Scenario - LP Mix - A Tribe Called Quest

Mine would have a lot more Orb, Meat Beat Manifesto and 90s IDM in general, to replace some of your whiny british baritones and industrial stuff.

How does this thing work exactly? Does one have to have been using Spotify for some time I mean clearly it didnt exist in the 90s so whats it working this out from? I dont listen to anything like what I did in my 20s.

my time capsule is weird as fuck with no discernible theme or connection to any particular era & the songs range in release date from 1980 to 2012

Erotic Wolf (crüt), Thursday, 5 October 2017 13:39 (six years ago) link

actually 1972 to 2012

For whatever reason, Front 242 and Sonz weren't on the cheesy dance compilations that I could find in the racks in Alabama while I was discovering myself at 16. FSOL was though, what's up with that?

I forgot to vote, so "my god, that rules" got robbed

More than half of my Time Capsule are songs that I've got on a playlist from the 1989-1991 era. By the time the fifth or sixth song from that rolled around, I thought, Well hell, I could just play that playlist if I wanted to.

Here's what DJP and I have in common:

Groove Is In The Heart - Deee-Lite
It Takes Two - Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock
Poison - Bell Biv DeVoe
Three Days - Jane's Addiction

I've got three Public Enemy songs to his two:
Countdown To Armageddon
Shut 'Em Down
Welcome To The Terrordome

Oldest song on mine is "You Dropped a Bomb On Me" by the Gap Band.

I'm not sure how the algorithm works but I think it infers from your birthdate and current listening habits, along with songs from that era that you currently play.
