I want to drink at places where people go to drink, not to see and be seen & talk to the bartender for 10 minutes while I'm trying to get a drink at a bar that's not even busy.

Which is also the bartender's fault, mind you.
Gather! Make merry! But pls remember that the primary function of a BAR is to serve DRINKS.

I'm not anxious. I just refuse to go back to Daddy's. Also I dislike it when the bartender's main job doesn't seem to be serving people alcohol. Being an awesome hipster and posing behind the bar might be what they pay you for in Wburg but it's not a vote of confidence for me.

Ben, my gripe with Daddy's is more like:
* 2 or 3 female bartenders twisting their toes into the floor at the back wall, chatting, while people crowd up to be served. * slow moving like molasses, generally supah inefficient -- like, you'd get fired from a kitchen for moving one lemon wedge at a time, but at Daddy's it's like they're sleepwalking to the margarita machine. * bartender looks me in the eye, turns away to serve other side of bar, comes back and serves a guy next to me who wasn't there before, and guy not only does not say "she was here first" but actually nudges me out of the way so he can lean on the bar. Bad manners all 'round.

laurel,
ive always seen yr points re: the clubhouse...i just think its hilarious that this same argument always comes up...i guess my thinking is, if thats where someone wants to be, for whatever reason, then everyone has the option of going or not. no sense in this constant retreading of (legitimate for some/most) gripes. that place isnt about to change. too bad, i guess, as id like to catch you one of these nb drinks nights...
and jon..quittit with the pot/kettle biznez...

That reminds me that I did once see a 5-yr old try to give his mother a beer at a rugby game. He went to the cooler and got it and brought it back to her and said "HERE MAMA. YOU WANT A BEER?" and she was like "Oh, haha, um, THANK you, Charlie, but Mama's not drinking today! Mama has to drive, so put that back, okay?" "BUT MAMA, I HAVE TO GET YOU A BEER" "Er, yes, sweetheart, but not today. Give that back to the nice lady." Etc. Good times.

yeah, i want to get involved with a woman who, apparently, had a kid just so she could train it to get her beers. while admirable, there's only room for one of those types in a relationship.

I went to "a bar" with a bunch of UK kids last night. One of them hurled inside the bar and then right out in front. Then we got busted smoking a j outside. I'm not so sure I want to show my face there for a while. :(((((( so sad!

it struck me, after seeing that bit yesterday, that perhaps the problem is that too many people, notincluding laurel, consider daddy's to be something other than a local bar. its not meant to be a fucking hotspot! and the service you get at daddy's is on par with any local place. hang out and get to know people and you wont have a problem (save on weekend nights when all those nonlocals and "goin out tonight" folks turn round)
and no, never served the PBR. stopped serving bk lager when bk brewery supported big development in dwntown bk. do not have the makings for apple martinis. no jaegermeister. as it was xplained to me a long time ago, the policy was to just have regular drinks and to not cater to children and nightlife sorts of crowds that want cheap beer and gross shit that leads to vomiting and idiocy.
i saw sD get some fine service there the other day.
