desert treks are less ugly but not exactly good looking

max, Wednesday, 20 January 2010 22:12 (fourteen years ago) link

agree they're ugly but pretty comfy. they look weird on my feet so i don't wear them often

i dont really think theyre particularly ugly. its a look. i think it depends on how u rock it & what you wear it with. when the dad from malcolm in the middle wears them on 'breaking bad' it does look pretty herbish i suppose. but the mid 90s wu wear garment renaissance??

Aviators are one of a number of "classic" sunglasses styles, the douchebag wearing them has never been IN style, so the fact that his are purple and weird is sort of bonus weirdness.

where do you draw the line between wallabees and boat shoes

when I wore sambas tons of people would come up to me and be like "hey that's so cool, I used to wear those when I was 10 years old and playing in a rec league"

It is depressingly hard to find cool sneakers when you wear a 13EE in boots.

dyao, Sunday, 24 January 2010 03:18 (fourteen years ago) link

Wallabees are, according to my new podiatrist, GARBAGE.

I haven't been able to walk right for a month and he blames the shoes. Not enough support and too flexible in the middle.

So goodbye Wallabees, it's been a good run. I've gone through many pairs of you and now I must say goodbye.

dan selzer, Tuesday, 26 January 2010 22:30 (fourteen years ago) link

I've owned many pairs of visvims and I've always ended up selling them. I think they are beautiful shoes but they just don't look right on my size 12 feet. Also tbh FBTs are just not that comfortable.

moonship journey to baja, Tuesday, 26 January 2010 22:34 (fourteen years ago) link

Also the price point is just too out of control ... I really think Japanese denim actually IS that much nicer than US denim but I don't think a pair of visvims is actually 3-6 times nicer than a pair of nikes or vans.

the rebel shoes are not terrible if you don't know what they are, but the storm trooper and tie fighter ones are pretty o_0

pithfork (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 27 January 2010 00:20 (fourteen years ago) link

Back of the Stormtrooper shoes are silly. Tie fighter are pretty good though.

How are Sambas MORE little kid-like than orange and aqua hi-tops and things styled after Star Warz characters?

I saw those Star Wars adidas in the shop the other day! they did not look better in person

I don't want to hate but those star wars shoes are a perfect blend of hideous and dorky.

The roots negative heel aka 'Earth Shoe', vintage 1970 styling, you go into a Roots store and they trace your feet on paper, then send it off to Toronto where they are custom made for your feet. You can get leather or suede, a variety of colors, your choice of color of sole. Should be maybe $150 Canadian. They keep your feet on file, and in the future you just call them up and order another pair to your specifications. You have to go to your local Roots store to deliver the foot tracing or have it done there, and explain to the staff what is going on, and that the shoes will be shipped to their store, and how they are not in their store but that their company will custom make them for you. They will be confused; refer them to their regional manager. I wear brown leather but lighter than this color.

Hmmm ... I think the profile is dope in a vintage stan smith sort of way but I don't like the raised vamp, makes them look like those nasty leather "dress sneakers" people were wearing a few years ago

^^^^ knows his shoes

b( ۠·_۠·)b (Lamp), Wednesday, 27 January 2010 05:39 (fourteen years ago) link

looks more like nike cortez than stan smiths imo but i agree abt the dress sneakers hated it

not a playa but i ilx a lot (deej), Wednesday, 27 January 2010 05:44 (fourteen years ago) link

they actually look even more like the adidas tennis vintage in profile now that i think about it ... again, too bad about the front

in an attempt to be vaguely more 'tasteful' iml ive been into the zuriick kettle inversion

nike sbs releases have been terrible l8ly - thinking abt selling off a buncha my mids tbh

b( ۠·_۠·)b (Lamp), Wednesday, 27 January 2010 05:46 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah the cortez is a good reference point with the raised vamp but i think the cortez tapers more at the toe ... besides the three lines of holes on the side totally screams adidas

i like the proportions and the profile w/this shoe a lot more than the roots one

I have seen some nice nike casual shoes w/o the nike logo - cheap too, thinking about picking up a few

i'm with stupid ☞ (dyao), Wednesday, 27 January 2010 06:15 (fourteen years ago) link

for some reason the roots one reminds me of hannibal lecter's facemask. probably just the holes/brown tone of the thing

i'm with stupid ☞ (dyao), Wednesday, 27 January 2010 06:16 (fourteen years ago) link

I will admit that the earth show looks a bit like the dress sneaker c. 2000, at least sometimes and definitely in that picture above. In person though, they look stumpy/ branwny/ intriguing/ hippie at the bottom of one's leg. To the average person or non-canadian, however, they may suggest that you have feet problems and have to wear "special" shoes. I alternate b/w the earth shoe and brown clarke desert boots from upthread after some poorly made black leather Kenneth Cole beatle boots basically fell off my feet in tatters, what a sucker I was. Those grey/white sneakers from 4 post up definitely look pretty cool though.

picked up a pair of desert boots - like them lots but a little concerned about the fit. tried two sizes, got the bigger one because they felt more comfortable out of the box, but now walking around at home I feel they might be a little loose. wondering if I should have gone half a size down - do these shoes break in over time?
