The thing I like about names using Chinese characters (China, Japan, ?) is that there is a poetry in the characters that adds depth far beyond the sound of the name. Seems more two dimensional then non-Chinese language names.

it goes both ways though, like when western people give themselves asian names that come phonetically close to their western names but don't really mean anything in that language

I think every Eugenie I've known (can think of 4 off the top of my head) has been from Hong Kong. Does it sound close to something in Cantonese? Just wondering.

(quick spy: first few pages of Google results for Eugenies on Facebook are 80-90% French, a couple of Koreans, and the rest Chinese, though I've no idea what part of China)

ha! that is a friend of mine. she's not an ilx0r so far as I know. she's an author (some stuff about her books is at the bottom of the blog). didn't know she knew Maura but then again I don't really know Maura (think I met her once). my wife was just telling me the bike story after seeing it on Facebook. Apparently they did a little story about it on CBS News.
