agree here, but i'm not sure about people not "lionizing" their deejays. i think in every city, the real deep house deejays are known and respected as such, and well loved because of it. doing it like that is not something that you can just jump into, it requires years of record collecting because of the lack of focus on "the new" as well as an understanding of a larger culture that extends beyond deep house into soul, jazz, afrobeat, funk, etc. aside from the retarded hype surrounding the Martinez Brothers (are they really even deep house?), even the "new" guys on this scene tend to be older.

my guess is you people wouldnt know soul in music if it smacked you in the face. if you think a frequency range or dynamic level has anything to do with soul, youre probably retarded

i actually assume burial is a white guy. but what does that matter? are rhythm and sound not soulful? Francois Kevorkian? the Talking Heads?

temporarily de-lurking to add some sense to the cannabis debate

these days i'm pretty busy and not on the internet very much, so i open ILX once a day, scan the thread titles and move on. usually just read whatever noize things got updated ("damage contrLOLz" and "hi dere what is awesome" usually)

besides, ILM has changed and i usually feel like i don't understand or care about what people are talking about. seems to be lots of discussion of what pitchfork says about hot indie bands of the moment and lots of discussion of obscure stuff i haven't got time for. i decided to stop buying music and get rid of about 2/3 of my collection so i could focus on getting really familiar with stuff i care deeply about. don't want to be a dilettante music nerd anymore, want to be an adult with some cash in my pocket and empty space + potted plants on my shelves.

definitely not as much dance music talk on ILM as there used to be

for music stuff nowadays I mostly stick to rolling punk non-indie underground thread and the I Love Vinyl board
