i go through phases of wardrobe purification on the regular so i have no illusions about wearing what i'm wearing now in twenty years fwiw i think timeless style is a much a self-con as anything

i had a job working as an ibanker when i was still a teenager so i'm used to segregating my style into grownup and brooklyn or w/e i think there's some value in sometimes looking ridiculous. or maybe that's just a sad rationalization from a dude wearing pink socks with a scorpion on them

there were these two grizzled old dudes who used to hang out around downtown palo alto together every day

lol i thought u going somewhere else with this for sure. honestly tho since moving back east my style has become so much more dreary all i wear are filippa k boots and nike sb mids with jeans and t-shirts and a sweater and i miss cali style so much

I'm such a girl when it comes to boots.

sad man in him room (milo z), Sunday, 18 January 2009 01:28 (fifteen years ago) link

all of my shirts save a couple of flannels and a couple of army overshirts are white, blue or black and all of my sweaters, jackets and hoodies are navy or black, excepting a couple of gray sweatshirts and an ivory hoody.

An accquantaince of mine is the head designer of Clarks north america. Are the wallabees really comfortable? Not sure how I feel about them but if they are maybe I should see if she could swing her friends and family discount for me.

Too Into Dancing to Argue (ENBB), Sunday, 18 January 2009 17:04 (fifteen years ago) link

the wallabees are ridiculously comfortable. i wore mine last night. i can walk in them like they were sneakers. i have the clarks desert boot also and those shits hurt my feet. they look a little "nicer", but i walk a mile to get to the bus and my ankle/heel feel like they're on fire.

(jaxon) ( .) ( .) (jaxon), Sunday, 18 January 2009 18:35 (fifteen years ago) link

i feel like a lot of the shoes v & j rep for might be a bit too californ aye aie for my tastes

s1ocki, Sunday, 18 January 2009 19:28 (fifteen years ago) link

being a san diegan i don't walk as much as jaxon does but here are my feelings about the comfort of clarks

with the wallabees, the only problem i had was that the crepe soles seemed really high and wobbly at first compared to my sneakers and i constantly thought my ankle was going to roll and break. after a breaking-in perioid though the crepe got worn down enough that it wasn't a problem.

as far as the desert trek goes i actually have suede and not leather and it feels pretty nice to my feet, i think.

I just bought these and although not the most stylish ever they appeal to my desire for comfortable shoes and the inner 17 year old riot grrrl into clunky mary janes that is still stuck inside me:

I got a black pair of these as kind of an upgrade/variation on black Chucks. I like em.

http://www.sneakersnstuff.com/data/product/files/578820072314173611656191.jpg

also a pair of brown leather boots by Jump that I can't find a picture of ... nice and comfy but in retrospect the leather's too soft for NYC, the toes were scuffed & shredded in like a week from going up and down concrete steps all the time

Not even the manufacturer has the Spring Courts I want in stock in my size (13/46).

sad man in him room (milo z), Monday, 19 January 2009 22:15 (fifteen years ago) link

just get purcells, spring court is hella pretentious

purcells make me think of little kid shoes
― moonship journey to baja

^^ i got over this feeling btw

moonship journey to baja, Monday, 19 January 2009 22:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Do Purcells have the same soles as regular Chucks? I had to stop wearing the latter, they're so hard on my feet.

sad man in him room (milo z), Monday, 19 January 2009 22:52 (fifteen years ago) link

dave those are dope

i like spring courts, they're not pretentious imo just a basic tennis shoe

ps i have worn my rod lavers ~1000x and my purcells ~2x, just sayin

sleep, Monday, 19 January 2009 23:18 (fifteen years ago) link

i should probably replace those lavers

sleep, Monday, 19 January 2009 23:20 (fifteen years ago) link

lavers are a+

what? no perforations?

i dont get this - purcell vintages cost more than spring courts and the plain canvas purcells are kinda cheap looking and offer less support. the canvas spring courts look pretty dope to me and like something u would totally vibe

anyone got any experience w/nike blazers... are they comfy?

also I see liberty have released a blazer adaptation of last year's dunks

cozwn, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 11:47 (fifteen years ago) link

womens

cozwn, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 11:47 (fifteen years ago) link

not comfy, though not unbearable. they're basically just heavy and don't really fit the foot like a modern shoe does. on the other hand they won't give you blisters or anything like that, the seams and uppers are generally soft

moonship journey to baja, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 14:35 (fifteen years ago) link

cool, thanks, I guess I shd go try some on before ordering online

never did get a pair of low dunks, maybe I shd take the plunge

Yes, Church shoes. On sale still 250 euros. Did I say they hurt like fuck? But I've been wanting to buy some since I saw a pair of those in Miu Miu (Tokyo) five years ago or so.

Nathalie (stevienixed), Saturday, 24 January 2009 14:56 (fifteen years ago) link

Church's are good. My dad's a big fan.
