temporarily de-lurking to add some sense to the cannabis debate

these days i'm pretty busy and not on the internet very much, so i open ILX once a day, scan the thread titles and move on. usually just read whatever noize things got updated ("damage contrLOLz" and "hi dere what is awesome" usually)

besides, ILM has changed and i usually feel like i don't understand or care about what people are talking about. seems to be lots of discussion of what pitchfork says about hot indie bands of the moment and lots of discussion of obscure stuff i haven't got time for. i decided to stop buying music and get rid of about 2/3 of my collection so i could focus on getting really familiar with stuff i care deeply about. don't want to be a dilettante music nerd anymore, want to be an adult with some cash in my pocket and empty space + potted plants on my shelves.

definitely not as much dance music talk on ILM as there used to be

for music stuff nowadays I mostly stick to rolling punk non-indie underground thread and the I Love Vinyl board

i really hate it when people opine at length on subjects they don't really understand and then rebut other posters w/ "i haven't really thought about that BUT" or "i don't know much about that BUT" or "interesting point BUT" and then just restate their original, poorly informed opinion w/o any real thought or engagement w/ the points other people are making

i also really hate "if you disagree with me you are promoting patriarchy and a rapist"

then again you would think that by now i would have figured out that some people just get on my nerves, probably w/o making any conscious effort to do so, or at least not to begin with, and you would think i would know better than to try to drop THE TRUTH (or my version of it) on these people

so i guess i really am my own worst enemy, or something
