this is confusing because the combination of caption and photos makes it look like it's saying Obama is the one with substance, but Reagan is obv the one who could actually ride a horse. Obama is right to think he looks good in that hat.

it's so bizarre that someone is pushing that Reagan image as something constructed with no thought given to symbolism or image making, like it's just a photo of a guy who likes riding horses

for people who can remember further back than me: is that photo's emergence as *the* iconic picture of Reagan a fairly recent development? I remember it being used a lot around the time he died, wiki says it was taken in 1976, and I know it was used on campaign buttons in 1980...has it always been a famous photo or is it only with the latter day cult-of-personality mentioned above that it's taken on this status?
