I just saw Jeff Tweedy at a rest stop in Portage, Indiana

it was pretty funny. I was coming back from Michigan for the holiday, on I-80/90 and we decided to use the rest room even though we were almost back to Chicago. As I was walking in I stare at this scraggly looking dood for a couple seconds before I can figure out who it is. He notices me and meets my gaze ... at that point I'm thinking "oh yeah, right, that's Tweedy" and then I recognize his wife Ju1ia who is holding the hands of their two little kids. Pretty funny. I watched them get into some kind of Chevy SUV type thing.

Brushes with greatness. ANyway, I thought Gear! might enjoy that story.

I yelled at john oates once in front of his family when i was drunk. he left the general store the night before without paying for his nightly 6 pack of Beck's. He came in and payed for it the next night and boy was i ever embarrassed. i scared his oateswife.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 29 November 2004 03:38 (twenty-one years ago)

john oates was at the mobil station at 4 corners in brookfield, connecticut.

before i left philly this guy came up to the counter and started talking and his voice freaked me out and then i realized that it was george carlin and then i freaked him out by rushing up to him as he headed for the door so that i could shake his hand. he said it was no big deal and that he would be back, but he never came back cuz i'm such a goon. i just wanted to thank him for the funny while i had the chance. he's a really good writer.

oh shit, I just realized that Tweedy's wife is $ue, not Ju1ia. I had to look it up on the internet. This proves that I am not actually a big fan of the group or anything. But I did know that it was one of the two women who used to run the Lounge Ax. I just got them mixed up.

scott, did you go to roger williams college or something???

thayer street = total shithole now. the good record store is gone. the bookstores are all gone. (except the brown bookstore, which is nothing to write home about anyway.) there is at least a pizza/burrito place that is awesome and Spike's is still there.

I think I drove through Portage, Indiana last Wednesday. It snowed from the Iowa-Illinois border to the Indiana-Ohio border.

hopefully you didn't see the valpo exit on the day before thanksgiving because at that time some fucking kid was stabbing 8 kids in the high school!!

Nicole I know some very strange people from Valparaiso

Sonny, Ah!!1 (Sonny A.), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't take the Valpo exit, and yeah I heard something on NPR 'bout the stabbing. Why would a kid do that on the day before Thanksgiving? Was he pissed it snowed Wednesday instead of Tuesday?

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i also know some very strange people from valparaiso, including myself.

nicole ssssss (nsierra), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Whenever I used to drive by Portage IN on my way back from Michigan, I'd get mock-frustrated because there's a Portage MI right next to Kalamazoo, and I'd be all "we haven't even left the state, nyuk nyuk!"

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 06:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Also: N/A and I saw Tweedy at the Animal Collective/Black Dice show!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 06:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I think my brother saw him at confirmed noise hangout TRADER JOE'S.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 06:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i just freaked out at Scott's age and figured he was ancient and was about to give him a yellow card (what the hell are those anyways?) but then did the math and realized he's only 36 and that's not that old. gygax is like 42
