.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 27 January 2005 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

But did you really hear Dizzee? No, I don't think so.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 27 January 2005 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I first heard Dizzee on the Roll Deep mix of The Streets-"Let's Push Thing Forward", obviously. I'm sure REASONABLY FAMOUS RECORD LABEL PERSON was taking notes.

etc

PH3AR teh cred

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 27 January 2005 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

stormy diamond, what do you make of the career parallels between the flaming lips and the mountain goats?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 27 January 2005 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I LIKE THE MUSICAL OUTFIT "HIVEMIND"

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 27 January 2005 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Career parallels -- hmmm. Are there any, g!?

Other than .. folks that have been around for a long time with a dedicated set of fans ... and then suddenly get better distribution and a bunch of hack critics are all over their jock? Is that what you mean? That's the only parallel I can think of. I'm tres happy for J0hn though.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 27 January 2005 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

you nailed it!

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 27 January 2005 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

The Flaming Lips' production benefitted from their deal with Warners.

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 27 January 2005 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

THE FLAMING LIPS WOULD BENEFIT FROM A BAND MEETING FOLLOWED BY BAND BREAK-UP.

OR AT LEAST I'D BENEFIT...AND THATS ALL THAT COUNTS REALLY.

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

not really, did you ever hear Hit To Death In The Future Head?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

That's the record I'm talking about!

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Hold Your Head?

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

the early stuff is good loopy rock music.

that "She Don't Use Jelly" thing really bogued my high though.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, the early stuff is great but the great stuff that they did on a major label (and there is some) is markedly different and great in a different way probably because of more $$$ and studio time. Not that more $$$ and studio time are a guarantee of anything, but I think that is what happened there.

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

tell us more!

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

uh...i had one of their early lps (the oh my gawd etc. lp) and it was really mediocre.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

YES I HEARD HIT TO DEATH...MIDDLE ROAD AT BEST. THE 10 MINUTE NOISE PART AT THE END IS FUN.

PLAY ONE BUTTHOLE SURFERS RECORD. I RECOMMEND REMBRANDT PUSSYHORSE.

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:25 (twenty-one years ago)

what did everyone like before the noiseboard hive mind?

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:27 (twenty-one years ago)

THE 10 MINUTE NOISE PART AT THE END IS FUN.

you mean: 30 minute!!!?!?!?!?

i used to like that Bobby Brown record you like Gareth! I had 2 copies and gave them both away!

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

OK 30 MINUTE.

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

you guys are missing my point: i'm not trying to commend the flaming lips, just comparing their weird career path to the mountain goats.

(i think maybe soul asylum falls in this category as well, but on 2nd thought maybe not so apt... okay, here's a better one: the goo-goo dolls.)

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

IN THAT ALL AFERMENTIONED BANDS ARE PAINFUL

I'm sorry. I meant "Battles."

Community Cornerstone (deangulberry), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

i would like to note once more that ILM's anti-"corny indietude" has once again mass-regressed in the face of a new mount'n goats lp!

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

also strangely silent on the "u.s. army/village voice hand-in-hand" bit

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I loved the Mountain Goats 94-97... how are those new records?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

TERRIBLE!

jack cole (jackcole), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Gygax, I can't take you seriously unless you give me some specific months to go with those years.

Community Cornerstone (deangulberry), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

ILM's anti-"corny indietude"

still dont understand this. ilm is totally indie.

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Indie rock is not the problem with ILM, indie guilt is.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

but they all love indie! i dont see any indie guilt at all!

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

haha search "indie guilt" on google and click result #2

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

In the summer of 94' the dwindle boys left their comfy homes in St. Paul, Minnesota to record five songs with Tim Green at his basement studio in Olympia, Washington.

Oh, or were you talking about MATTHEW FLUXINGTON'S barbelith post?

There was a MASSIVE ironic post by Matthew on the Nickalicious liking Bright Eyes' faux-"Masters Of War" on Leno.

My top 5 for 2002 was pretty right on in retrospect.

xpost: jax0n, i played a beachwood sparks song at your wedding!!! and you were digging it!!! haha!

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Do not invoke K Records or else Jack Cole and I will have to tell our separate horrible stories about the proprietor!

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Occasionally, ILXors reference other boards that they're on, something with a link. In general, I don't understand how some of the more prolific posters have time for ILX, let alone other boards.
