ddb (ddb), Friday, 18 March 2005 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

One of my friends in high school listened to them a lot, and, during this same span of time, he smoked an inordinate amount of reefer and hung out at Tony's Arcade and stared at this little guy in one of the pinball machines that he named Podgett, who he claimed was king of the midgets.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 18 March 2005 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

david j and daniel ash both live in the sfv i think

charleston charge (chaki), Friday, 18 March 2005 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I listened to them on a daily basis when I was in high school trying to be 'different.' I thought I was a goth but instead I was only into glam and had no fashion sense.

Krud's Website

jack cole (jackcole), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think I've ever heard a Bauhaus song besides Bela Lugosi's Dead.

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

White on white
translucent black capes
back on the rack.
Egon Krud's dead.
The bats have left the bell tower,
the victims have been bled,
red velvet lines the black box.

Egon Krud's dead.
Undead Undead Undead.

The virginal brides
file past his tomb,
strewn with time's dead flowers,
bereft in deathly bloom,
alone in a darkened room
the count.

Egon Krud's dead.
Undead Undead Undead.

Oh Egon, Egon's undead

jack cole (jackcole), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

The only song I'd ever heard of their's for a long time was the Ziggy cover.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

i file their cd next to the Birthday Party and early Fall. it's funny how early goth is just post-punk. killing joke, joy division, christian death. all that shit sounds the same.

The JaXoN 5 (JasonD), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I have some very dicey memories about Bauhaus.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 18 March 2005 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

ddb (ddb), Saturday, 19 March 2005 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Bauhaus are from my hometown of Northampton. Other famous Northamptonians include TV personality Des O'Connor, child molesting poet John Clare, and Charles Bradlaugh, Britain's first Atheist member of parliament.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 19 March 2005 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

bauhaus rulzzzz. ian, put on the first side of in the flat field and turn it up as loud as yoo can cuz that intro kicks major ass.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 19 March 2005 02:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I came upon your room it stuck into my head
We leapt into the bed degrading even lice
You took delight in taking down
All my shielded pride
Until exposed became my darker side
Puckering up and down some avenue of sin
Too cheap to ride they're worth a try
If only for the old times cold times
Don't go waving your pretentious love

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 19 March 2005 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

XXXPOST I DIDNT WANT TO DISAPPOINT YOU, DDB! DON'T BE MAD! I WILL MAIL YOU ANIMAL CRUELTY FREE COSMETICS AND HAIRSPRAY AND SOME BOWIE RECORDS AND MAYBE A BABY BAT YOU CAN RAISE AS YOUR OWN.

jack cole (jackcole), Saturday, 19 March 2005 04:50 (twenty-one years ago)

they suck terribly. the kind of garbage that people who aren't into music dig. they liek the way peter murphy puts his thumb up his ass. they like the way that the stupid english fucks make a mockery of rhythm.

I like that Skot loves these dudes but makes fun of me for liking basically ONE Sebadoh song. That's really cute, scott. Way to be hardcore. Way to love frickin BAUHAUS for christ's sake. jesus.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 19 March 2005 07:51 (twenty-one years ago)

David Bowie has a lot to fucking pay for. LET THE TRIALS BEGIN!

jack cole (jackcole), Saturday, 19 March 2005 08:26 (twenty-one years ago)

"I like that Skot loves these dudes but makes fun of me for liking basically ONE Sebadoh song. That's really cute, scott. Way to be hardcore. Way to love frickin BAUHAUS for christ's sake. jesus."

hahahahahaha! but i repeat, stormy: put on the first side of in the flat field and turn it up as loud as yoo can cuz that intro kicks major ass!

plus, when i was 16, burning from the inside was one of my fave albums to listen too while on acid.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 19 March 2005 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Diamond, you have been an asshole lately.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 19 March 2005 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

nobody gives a fuck about bela. COME HERE MY SWEETIES

kephm (kephm), Saturday, 19 March 2005 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I never got into Bauhaus. In high school, I thought people were corny fucks for thinking they were the greatest thing ever. Ah, but now I hear "Bela Lugosi's Dead" and, of course, I hear how great it is.

I fear that a lot of their other stuff is just a more goth Cure or bad Damned music, though. Maybe I'm wrong. I don't know if I wanna buy their album, but a few songs on iTunes I can see. Any suggestions?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Saturday, 19 March 2005 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

burning from the inside, pop (the u.k. version not the u.s. version) by tones on tail, and seventh dream of teenage heaven by love & rockets are 3 of my favorite psych albums of all time. and right near the top of any 80's list i would make. daniel ash is one of my favorite guitarists too. i love all bauhaus. and i like L&R up until express (which is also a great stonerrock album).

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 19 March 2005 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

"albums" I meant

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Saturday, 19 March 2005 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Diamond, you have been an asshole lately.
-- Everybody Wants to Rule the Curt1sss (curtis.stephen...), March 19th, 2005

oh please, Curtis, skot nose I luv him. he is my #1 soul brother. our tastes are amazingly similar. that post was just following on from gentle ribbing which has been ongoing. so take a chill pill dude.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 19 March 2005 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

and actually, I like Love & Rockets!! I love the first four albums, I like the two that came after Express, so I am MORE HARDCORE than skot!! I love their gentle psych moves. I just could never really get into Bauhaus though, Murphy is just too ridiculous for me.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 19 March 2005 22:24 (twenty-one years ago)

have you ever listened to burning from the inside, stormy? even if someone doesn't like murphy i would recommend that album. and if you like love & rockets you really should own that tones on tail album. the one with the little naked kid on the cover, not the blue american one with go and twist on it.(although i like go and twist.) it does my heart good to know that you like seventh dream and express though. i bought a couple aftter express, but the only thing i REALLY liked was no new tale to tell. i thought that was a great single. and video! but i'm a sucker for monkeys.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 19 March 2005 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i just think bauhaus were a good rock band. goth or otherwise.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 19 March 2005 22:46 (twenty-one years ago)

no I've never heard Burning From the Inside. The only Bauhaus I've ever owned was the first of those black and white compilations. I had the first one, with "Bela Lugosi's Dead" on it. I did have that Tones on Tail record at one point! Not sure if I still even have it, it might have been part of a collection purge at some point. In any case it's been years since i heard it.

I do still own those Love & Rockets records, though. I thought Earth Sun Moon was really good. "The Light" and the title cut are amazing psych tracks. I loved when they did stuff like that. yeah I remember when that "No New Tale to Tell" video was all over MTV. It felt crazy, you know? that's when The Church's "Under the Milky Way" also got pretty huge. at the time, i couldn't believe that this so-called alternative music was getting so much attention. but then the next year Love & Rockets totally blew up and had a top-ten single!! It was insane. During my high school pizza delivery job, when I wasn't blasting my tapes of And Justice for All or Like A Prayer or Straight Outta Compton or Daydream Nation, I would put on the top 40 station, and man was it ever mind-blowing to hear LOve & Rockets in between De La Soul and Prince's "Batdance" and Milli Vanilli and Neneh Cherry and Bobby Brown, you know?? those were crazy times!!

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 19 March 2005 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

the girl I lost my virginity to in high school was a massive Love & Rockets fan. we had sex to that 4th self-titled album a lot. that and The Cure's Disintegration, which she was also way into. we went to that Love & Rockets / Pixies tour together. I was more into the Pixies at the time (see scott, I like them too!!), but i dug them both.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 19 March 2005 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't know if daniel ash is underrated or what as a guitarist, but i ALWAYS loved the sound he got. probably my favorite acoustic guitar sound of the 80's was on those bauhaus and L&R albums. fucking beautiful if you ask me. if they had been around in the 70's they would have been just another glam/art-rock band that everyone would gush about now. but since they are tied up with bela and the hunger and that crowd, people think they are a joke. and what i learned on ilm is that people in the u.k. REALLY hate them. or at least a lot of u.k. ilm types. wich means they must have been doing something right!

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 19 March 2005 23:13 (twenty-one years ago)

and i thought those eno/bowie/t.rex covers were great! i dunno, there are way sillier bands. and i'm serious about the start of that in the flat field album. it kills. the bass on it is nutz.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 19 March 2005 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

The stumbling, fumbling rhythm guitar on "Bela Lugosi's Dead" is a thing of beauty.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 20 March 2005 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

the shaggs of goth except the shaggs are better.

jack cole (jackcole), Sunday, 20 March 2005 23:13 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, but you have to say that. it's in your contract.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 21 March 2005 01:01 (twenty-one years ago)

nah, i LOVE the shaggs. i feel guilty using them to make a joke at bauhaus' expense -- FORGIVE ME, WIGGINS!
