yes. do as all 12 yr old English schoolboys on trips to Calais do - drink some beer, feel up a french girl, buy a flick knife.

I love drinking on planes but I only get bumped to first class on short flights :(

BOATPEOPLEHATEFUCK (ex machina), Thursday, 24 March 2005 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

my trip:

-drank free pinot grigio on the ferry whilst sitting in special first class area
-bought fancy wine for reasonable prices
-bought rilletes de canard for my flatmate
-bought a large box of leonidas chocolates for about 1/3 of the u.k. price
-played with a basset hound

Sven Bastard (blueski), Sunday, 27 March 2005 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

instead it may be Whitstable

Sven Bastard (blueski), Sunday, 27 March 2005 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

did you visit a foie gras farm?

Ian John50n (orion), Sunday, 27 March 2005 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

no, ian. i visited a shop called le magasin du fromage et des vins. they had foie gras for sale but rilettes are less barbaric - basically confit packed with salt and more oil into a jar. no force-fattening of the liver required.

i like cooking. the one and only time I went to Charlie Trotter's, Paul Bocuse was in the other room having dinner. True story! It was totally weird. We saw Trotter and the whole staff basically come out and give him an ovation as he was finisghing his meal. Real weird, but totally cool. Wow, yeah, I was psyched.

Eating one room over from Bocuse kind of ranks up there with seeing Lee Konitz last month. in terms of being in the prezence of all-time mule-whipping heros. but that's just me.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 10:11 (twenty-one years ago)

was this meant for another thread? it's a good story, though.

i used to be obsessed with charlie trotter and his kitchen sessions.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

nope. not meant for another thread.

basically just asserting the dominance of America!

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 10:29 (twenty-one years ago)

hm. but if i were in america, i would have paid waaaaay more than 13 euros for a bottle of 2000 joseph drouhin cotes du beaune.
