Silky Sensor (sexyDancer), Saturday, 26 March 2005 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

destressing review.

brock (brock), Saturday, 26 March 2005 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

tom smith IS no fun

ddb (ddb), Saturday, 26 March 2005 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

and no fun is apparently aptly named.

amon (eman), Saturday, 26 March 2005 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Tom Smith needs to lighten up. But yea, NFF is kinda crappy in veering all towards harsh noise.

BOATPEOPLEHATEFUCK (ex machina), Saturday, 26 March 2005 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

NO TRUE
dude, well
harsh noise is GONNA MAKE A COME BACK
BLOODYMINDED LEADIN THE WAY FUXORS
seriously, the lineup was pretty fuckin diverse......one night of harshness in the basement, next night its dylan and choc monk weirdos..... i dunno. it looked real good on paper to me.

brock (brock), Saturday, 26 March 2005 19:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i think ts is pulling a classic fart and run maneuver is all.

not necessarily joking, but... not entirely serious. piss on the fairly holy. rabble the rouse.

keeping people from laziness,
m.

msp (msp), Saturday, 26 March 2005 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

mr. smith hit the noise nail on the head.

jack cole (jackcole), Saturday, 26 March 2005 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i skipped out on tom smith's histrionics. smoking weed is more fun.

but yeah, ummm... last year was way better, this year no one seemed to give a fuck about seeing jams and just sat around drinking beer/smoking weed and bullshitting with scene buddies. whatever doodz. i will take a pass next year unless the line-up looka stunning. i mean.. when the bands i enjoyed most are ones i'd already seen at LEAST once in the past year, wtf is the point of paying the cash for it?

Ian John50n (orion), Sunday, 27 March 2005 00:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Twee pop (Of Montreal and hopefully the new Architecture in Helsinki) is way more extreme than noizzzz.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 27 March 2005 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

extreme is not the point.

Ian John50n (orion), Sunday, 27 March 2005 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

give it a rest, ellison. twee pop sucks donkey balls.

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 27 March 2005 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

"extreme"-ly good

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 27 March 2005 00:36 (twenty-one years ago)

does Tim Ellison like Go Sailor? I like Go Sailor. (maybe this is the wrong place to admit that.)

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 27 March 2005 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Ian, I don't know them, but I'm listening to some clips now. It sounds like that Heather-of-Beat-Happening/really poor songwriting style which I always thought was bad. Maybe they have some personality that I'm not getting just listening to clips.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 27 March 2005 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

No, there's no real personality. It's just pleasant. Personality ruins music.

I've only got one 7". Some of the songs are nice. And more competent than early beat happening, less droney than late beat happening.

Ian John50n (orion), Sunday, 27 March 2005 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

There are some clips from the new album that play on the Architecture in Helsinki page if anyone's interested in hearing 'em.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 27 March 2005 00:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I am definitely listening to a lot more twee-pop these days... I've seen Adventures in Helsinki live and their show was okay, nothing mind blowing.

Tom Smith has many valid points in that article, but I'm glad that he's putting his opinion out there.

gygax! (gygax!), Sunday, 27 March 2005 01:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Tom Smith has many points, yes, but it's a bit unfair to be decrying noise and refusing to admit that his own art is just that, in many cases.

Ian John50n (orion), Sunday, 27 March 2005 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

That new album, though...

Well, we'll see.

x-post

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 27 March 2005 01:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Smith must have some perception of "noise" as some generic thing. Probably just a semantic issue.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 27 March 2005 01:08 (twenty-one years ago)

EVERYTHING SOUNDS BETTER THROUGH GUITAR PEDALS.

ddb (ddb), Sunday, 27 March 2005 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

...EXCEPT WHEN IT DOESN'T

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 27 March 2005 01:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Ian, what is it that motivates you to state that "personality ruins music?"

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 27 March 2005 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Humor.

Ian John50n (orion), Sunday, 27 March 2005 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh.
