same here. i like to listen to it in the library.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Sunday, 27 March 2005 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i like:

mid/late-Unrest
Le Tigre - "Hot Topic" and "Deceptacon"

gygax! (gygax!), Sunday, 27 March 2005 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

ethiopiques, tehresa?

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 27 March 2005 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

ethiopiques is a great series, but aside from my little sister, everyone i've played ehtiopian music for has cringed and run away.

i especially like alemayehu eshete

tehresa (tehresa), Sunday, 27 March 2005 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I like ethiopiques shit a ton

None of my friends like John Wilkes Booze at all. I like their new record a lot, a lot

if he hurts his leg running, his bread can double as an ace bandage!

those clever ethiopians!!!

tehresa (tehresa), Sunday, 27 March 2005 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Drew I am a massive, massive Joplin / Big Brother fan, so you are not alone. I own like 7 Big Brother boots, no joke! They were an amazing live band. I also dig Slovenly big time. I just had a conversation about them with some guys last night at the Slint show!

most of you guys are naming hipster bands though! try being into the likes of

Spyro Gyra
or
Maria Muldaur

Stormy Davis (diamond), Sunday, 27 March 2005 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i haaaaaaaate janis joplin. please explain to me why she is famous other than for being some kind of wacko. YOU SING LIKE A DYING FARM ANIMAL.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Sunday, 27 March 2005 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i love slovenly and tom watson, especially -- OVERPASS!
also unrest through but not beyond imperial ffrr.
also turing machine (but not panthers)
also janis joplin but only with big brother

jack cole (jackcole), Sunday, 27 March 2005 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha! I used to think that way for a long time too! I was always like "she sucks". I don't know ... one day it just totally clicked with me I guess. I became a huge fan.

I think I just really like the story of her. I mean she was this totally shy, small-town girl from Texas, and music was like, her way out, you know? And she totally changed the game, there weren't really women up front and center and sexual in white rock until she came along. and actually it's as much about that band Big Brother for me, as it is Janis. Like, I'm actually not into just those Janis solo records like Pearl. I'm more about that early psych-rock stuff. That band was pretty good.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Sunday, 27 March 2005 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

FRIZANK ZAPPER

cutty (mcutt), Sunday, 27 March 2005 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

stuff i like no one else loves:

Screamin' Mee-Mee's
Half Japanese
Wild Stares
Boy Dirt Car

jack cole (jackcole), Sunday, 27 March 2005 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

also big brother's moondog cover finally sold me on them. so i guess its not really janis but big brother as a whole

jack cole (jackcole), Sunday, 27 March 2005 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Echobelly
Son Volt
early Oakenfold

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Sunday, 27 March 2005 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i think my favorite le tigre song is "the empty." i'm pretty sure it's awful, also.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Sunday, 27 March 2005 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Big Brother was pretty good, yes, but with Janis they had the capacity to be something really transcendental. "Piece of My Heart" would certainly be the thing to convert any potential Janis fans.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 27 March 2005 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Here's a question: Am I the only Noise Dude who really, really, really likes early REM?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 27 March 2005 22:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I like some Echobelly

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Sunday, 27 March 2005 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i like some early rem. most everything else tim likes i hate tho.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 28 March 2005 03:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I like David Grubbs.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 28 March 2005 03:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Me too, at least a couple albums, plus a couple of the Gastr Del Sol albums.

Also, I was listening to Big Brother and the Holding Company yesterday, and some of it is actually pretty good. I just can't stand the way she murders Bobby McGee (NAnanaNAnanaNAnanaNAnanaNA...all I can think of is Jackie Mason in Caddyshack 2)

I also like studio Grateful Dead.
Also Gillian Welch (most people seem more lukewarm than hateful on this)

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 28 March 2005 03:53 (twenty-one years ago)

does this mean i don't have to be embarassed for owning the man on the moon soundtrack?

tehresa (tehresa), Monday, 28 March 2005 03:58 (twenty-one years ago)

"most everything else tim likes i hate tho."

This statement is probably false.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 28 March 2005 04:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Return to Forever
Claude Bolling
N.E.R.D.

o. nate (onate), Monday, 28 March 2005 04:26 (twenty-one years ago)

claude bolling is great!
growing up, his suites were standard dinner accompaniment in my house.

tehresa (tehresa), Monday, 28 March 2005 04:34 (twenty-one years ago)

O. Nate wins for Return to Forever.

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 28 March 2005 04:35 (twenty-one years ago)

But I like Chuck Mangione

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 28 March 2005 04:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually the like the album Return to Forever (credited to Chick Corea) better than the albums I've heard credited to the band itself, but Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy is good when you're in the right mood.

o. nate (onate), Monday, 28 March 2005 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I forgot to mention Light as a Feather - I like that one too.

o. nate (onate), Monday, 28 March 2005 04:44 (twenty-one years ago)

aphex twin - 'drukqs'
grateful dud

amon (eman), Monday, 28 March 2005 04:52 (twenty-one years ago)

dude, why does everyone hate fusion?! i'd rather listen to mahavishnu, but return to forever aren't terrible.

also i love gastr del sol and have a solo grubbs album that's pretty good (think i'd rather listen to that than any o'rourke album)

things i like everyone else hates:
that fine line between hip hop and soul (post love below): cherrywine, new mos def, dudley perkins
cheeseball 80s r'n'b
csn&y

The JaXoN 5 (JasonD), Monday, 28 March 2005 05:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i like a lot of the stuff above. earlier echobelly. rem, most of it actually. until recently maybe. actually, they still make about 1-2 good songs every record still, but... unrest i heart. ethiopiques rule... i'm not sure where to venture beyond that. le tigre had me to a point. turing machine yes. panthers sure. early kid loco... i had some of the early stuff. that guy showed promise and really lost it right? of montreal, we love you niki coco we were sad when we thought we had lost you. the books. !!!/outhud. david grubbs can be great. i don't it's possible to love half-japanese like jack does, so i'll have concede that.

a few things from the top of my head:
la style "james brown is dead"
1000 homo djs "supernaut"
don ho
gospel i'm not sure where to start listing and how
european dance music

msp (msp), Monday, 28 March 2005 05:18 (twenty-one years ago)

stuff i like no one else loves:

Screamin' Mee-Mee's
Half Japanese
Wild Stares
Boy Dirt Car

-- jack cole (jack_col...), March 27th, 2005.

i actually have a video about half japanese left to me by my sister's former roommate... maybe some day soon i will get around to watching it!

tehresa (tehresa), Monday, 28 March 2005 05:20 (twenty-one years ago)

"cheeseball 80s r'n'b"

like... new edition? or more like debarge and the jets? or? i like that stuff, but my interest doesn't go much beyond the singles. there are exceptions like saltnpepa...

Sting - Ten Summoner's Tales

I'm glad some other people like Echobelly. I've only heard On, actually, but it's one of the mid-nineties albums I listen to the most.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Monday, 28 March 2005 07:19 (twenty-one years ago)

But I like Chuck Mangione
-- Hurting (Hurtingchie...), March 28th, 2005 11:36 PM. (Hurting) (later)

well yeah, from ROCHESTER NEW YORK

dude, Mangione totally rules. the CD of Feels So Good was totally one of the first 5 or 6 CDs I bought back there in teh late 90s. I fuckin LOVED that record. "Feels so Good" is such an amazing tune; right up there with Herb's "Rise" or Grover's "Just the Two of Us". That was THE era of soft-jazz chart dominance!!!!

Stormy Davis (diamond), Monday, 28 March 2005 07:30 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.tedtatman.com/images/JQ,%20Chuck%20Mangione,%20Captain%20Craig.jpg

jack cole (jackcole), Monday, 28 March 2005 07:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Stormy on the left or the right?

jack cole (jackcole), Monday, 28 March 2005 07:49 (twenty-one years ago)

hahahhaha, look at Mangione!! How about that hat! what a hipster. dude was completely brazen. he didn't care.

I do like the moustache guy holding up a copy of the CM lp. that's a sweet look!

JC, you know you are my guy!! I can't wait to hear your new mix!! I will try to reciprocate with something very non-lame my friend

Stormy Davis (diamond), Monday, 28 March 2005 08:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i am actually half-italian by birth, and of course as mentioned have relatives in Rochester (huge italian-american population), so i HAVE to be a Mangione fan

but he rules anyway so fuuck it

Stormy Davis (diamond), Monday, 28 March 2005 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)

ASSFACTOR 4
HALO PERFECTO
NOD
BEDHEAD
CEYLON MANGE
ISLE OF CITADEL

i like the grateful dead u r all nuts
i also like some REM. basically all the albums thru "Out of Time" have their moments!

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 28 March 2005 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

guys I like PRIMUS and BUCKETHEAD

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 28 March 2005 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i got a kid loco thing in the mail last week. it's a soundtrack to a movie called the graffiti artist. i really like the long sitar track that opens the album. lovely stuff.

i love unrest too. it's weird, i never listened to the early stuff. i started listening to them around imperial and all that.i also love solo mark and flin flon and air miami and grenadine and olympic death squad. i was just listening to that canada's green highways album the other day. i love that thing.

i have no idea what i LOVE that EVERYONE would HATE. you know? i mean, everyone? i probably love a lot of stuff that people don't listen to or that people have forgotten about, but not hate.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 28 March 2005 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i do kinda hate primus. but buckethead has a lot of ilm fans.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 28 March 2005 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i like primus. nostalgia factors in heavily tho. bedhead! halo perfecto is goodness. i need to get their lp from a distro somewheres. the one mp3 of theirs i have is cool. assfactor 4... i traded tapes with one of those guys. like it. nod is good. jack cole reprazent.

casey jones watches my speed.

SCOOBY DOOBY DOO (nickalicious), Monday, 28 March 2005 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

nickalicious, yoo r groovy, but boy oh boy yoo like stuff that i would never listen to. do yoo like mc 900-foot jesus? and they might be giants? cuz i think fishbone, they might be giants, primus, and mc 900-foot jesus would make my top ten things i would never want to listen to list. but like i said, yoo are the grooviest. no offense or anything.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 28 March 2005 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't think of anything I like that is hated by other people.
All the music I listen to is great. I used to have patience for much more annoying shit, but I lost it somewhere in 2001 when the influx of glitchy micro-noise whatever finally brought me to my senses. The list of people and record labels that I feel owe me a refund for financially supporting their devolution into the paint drying audio movement:

Kid606 + Tigerbeat6
Lesser
Electric Company
Mu-Ziq + Planet Mu
Venetian Snares
The Orb
Ninjatune/Ntone/Big Dada
Hrvatski/reckankreuzerklangewerkzeuge (i typed that without looking it up, honest to god)
Lucky Kitchen
Taylor Deupree/12k
Aphex Twin/Rephlex
Autechre (even though I loudly and vocally hated them and everything they did since Tri Repetae but BOUGHT IT ANYWAY)
Uwe Schmidt/Rather Interesting
Mille Plateaux/Force Inc
Panacea
Burnt Friedmann
Speedy J
Plus 8

It's a good habit not to have anymore. This weekend I bought:

O-Zone: DiscO-Zone
Daft Punk: Human After All
Refused: Shape Of Punk To Come ("nice price" rerelease!)
Chemical Brothers: Push The Button

And even if a couple of them are disappointing I know there's enough tracks there that I WANT that I'm not going to have the whole "fucking A, I spent $25.00 for this on Forced Exposure and I could make this with a $150 worth of Korg gear while sitting on the shitter"

TECHNICAL REFERENCE MODEL (TOMBOT 64), Monday, 28 March 2005 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Which is really worth it. I mean I think from 1999-2001 most of my friends and acquaintances had to listen to that whole Korg on the pooper rant approximately once every nine days. And this was on my military pay, I was buying all these fucking coasters.

TECHNICAL REFERENCE MODEL (TOMBOT 64), Monday, 28 March 2005 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway I do like the Patrick Cowley Megamix of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" and I like some Burt Bacharach, but I think the people that hate that are in a minority. I could conceivably post "Sick Love" by V/VM but everybody I've played that for thinks it's great.

Whatever. Colf coffee

TECHNICAL REFERENCE MODEL (TOMBOT 64), Monday, 28 March 2005 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Does Nickalicious have the worst taste ever?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 28 March 2005 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i love patrick cowley. his albums are the best. and megatone is the coolest label that ever lived.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 28 March 2005 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I like TOOL...im not sure if everyone hates them.

ddb (ddb), Monday, 28 March 2005 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 28 March 2005 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

ir·re·gard·less
adv. Nonstandard
Regardless.
Usage Note: Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so.

I am not trying to be twit, but this was pointed out to me recently as I use that word all the time.
