hahaha! I used to think that way for a long time too! I was always like "she sucks". I don't know ... one day it just totally clicked with me I guess. I became a huge fan.

I think I just really like the story of her. I mean she was this totally shy, small-town girl from Texas, and music was like, her way out, you know? And she totally changed the game, there weren't really women up front and center and sexual in white rock until she came along. and actually it's as much about that band Big Brother for me, as it is Janis. Like, I'm actually not into just those Janis solo records like Pearl. I'm more about that early psych-rock stuff. That band was pretty good.

Me too, at least a couple albums, plus a couple of the Gastr Del Sol albums.

Also, I was listening to Big Brother and the Holding Company yesterday, and some of it is actually pretty good. I just can't stand the way she murders Bobby McGee (NAnanaNAnanaNAnanaNAnanaNA...all I can think of is Jackie Mason in Caddyshack 2)

i like a lot of the stuff above. earlier echobelly. rem, most of it actually. until recently maybe. actually, they still make about 1-2 good songs every record still, but... unrest i heart. ethiopiques rule... i'm not sure where to venture beyond that. le tigre had me to a point. turing machine yes. panthers sure. early kid loco... i had some of the early stuff. that guy showed promise and really lost it right? of montreal, we love you niki coco we were sad when we thought we had lost you. the books. !!!/outhud. david grubbs can be great. i don't it's possible to love half-japanese like jack does, so i'll have concede that.

dude, Mangione totally rules. the CD of Feels So Good was totally one of the first 5 or 6 CDs I bought back there in teh late 90s. I fuckin LOVED that record. "Feels so Good" is such an amazing tune; right up there with Herb's "Rise" or Grover's "Just the Two of Us". That was THE era of soft-jazz chart dominance!!!!

i got a kid loco thing in the mail last week. it's a soundtrack to a movie called the graffiti artist. i really like the long sitar track that opens the album. lovely stuff.

i love unrest too. it's weird, i never listened to the early stuff. i started listening to them around imperial and all that.i also love solo mark and flin flon and air miami and grenadine and olympic death squad. i was just listening to that canada's green highways album the other day. i love that thing.

i have no idea what i LOVE that EVERYONE would HATE. you know? i mean, everyone? i probably love a lot of stuff that people don't listen to or that people have forgotten about, but not hate.

Usage Note: Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so.

I am not trying to be twit, but this was pointed out to me recently as I use that word all the time.
