I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 01:23 (twenty years ago)

what's the fastest swarm speed you've ever seen?

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 02:12 (twenty years ago)

also what's better than t0rrent5py?

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 02:12 (twenty years ago)

I am tuning my max upload slots / maximum upload speed to see which gives me the most download throughput.

Right now the sweet spot seems to be 10 slots, 90 kbps.

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 03:07 (twenty years ago)

around 480 kbps

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 03:07 (twenty years ago)

the importance of listening port 6881 cannot be overstated.

i am getting about 120 kbps on this OSX10.4 torrent and the swarm speed is like 1.5 mbps (!) ... something like 200 users and 50 seeds (!)

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 03:51 (twenty years ago)

I've never seen higher than 500kbps but I was on capped upload before :/

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 03:55 (twenty years ago)

hmmm ... the math seems sort of janky in the statistics tab ... 2.5 gb in 5 hrs w/ an average speed of 100 kbps? that doesn't seem to add up right, does it?

Can you download like a cracked OSX 10.4 upgrade from bittorrent and install on a 10.2 machine w/out problems? I know nothing about macs, but tried to install the one on their website and it was like sry no. My friend said it's OSX 10.n.x where x is free upgrades and n cost $$$.

PHOIOEI (blastocyst), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 05:52 (twenty years ago)

hmmm i think so ... but i've actually already decided not to try anyway because i don't think this powerbook has enough memory to make it worthwhile ... from what i've heard i don't think i want to fuck with 10.4 without a gig of memory. this thing is grindingly slow enough compared to my old thinkpad.

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 06:02 (twenty years ago)

this 10.4 thing is like 2.5 gigs ... that better be a full install and not an "upgrade".

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 06:04 (twenty years ago)

fuckin java eating all my RAM

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 06:10 (twenty years ago)

t/s bytes vs. bits

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 06:13 (twenty years ago)

hmmmm what are you getting at?

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 06:24 (twenty years ago)

1024 vs. 1000

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 06:56 (twenty years ago)

it's still like 25% off!

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 07:00 (twenty years ago)

protocol overhead?

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 07:01 (twenty years ago)

i think it calculates the speed w/ continuous intervals instead of discrete intervals so the stat gets fucked up (or vice versa?)

i have been finished for about an hour now and it's still telling me i'm getting "20 b/s" download.

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 07:02 (twenty years ago)

hey actually protocol overhead is a pretty good answer! maybe i actually am getting 20 b/s of packet data as long as i'm in the swarm.

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 07:06 (twenty years ago)

hm, that reminds me of IE's insane download time remaining numbers....

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 07:41 (twenty years ago)

Anyone want a .torrent for the first 20 j4mes b0nd films?

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 18:09 (twenty years ago)

BITS ON WHEELS

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 18:36 (twenty years ago)

ITS OK BUT IT DOESN'T HAVE BT4'S DISTRIBUTED HASHTABLES FORTRACKERLESS PROTOCOL RIGHT?

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

what's that?

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 18:47 (twenty years ago)

do you have any good mac games?

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 18:48 (twenty years ago)

a few months ago there was a t0rrent of all the old scumm lucasarts games! not sure if its still there

fe7 (FE7), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

it is! the 2.34 gb one

fe7 (FE7), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 19:06 (twenty years ago)

Bit torrent 4 lets you make torrents without a tracker server running.

Mac Games that I have:

Command and Conquer: Generals
Sims 2
Civ 3
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (Complete with all add ons)
Open Transport Tycoon + Transport Tycoon Files for it
Halo

Yea, I had all the LucasArts ScummVM pack but I played through a few and deleted it because it was 3 gigs.

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 19:08 (twenty years ago)

i have civ 3! anything too action-oriented is not good for my 12.

i'm downloading ALICE now. is that good?

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

I DONT KNOW I HATE 3D GAMES MOSTLY

I have an external display I use for gaming on my 12".

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 19:23 (twenty years ago)

is there a torrent of c&c:g?

fe7 (FE7), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 19:26 (twenty years ago)

what's the deal with open transport tycoon?

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Check thepiratebay, but i could just send you a CDr image although I imagine the bandwidth cross atlantic sucks.

what's the deal with open transport tycoon?
It is kinda fun if you like optimization. I reccomend learning the ropes on a small map with REALLY easy custom settings.

Basically, you run an integrated transit network.

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 19:33 (twenty years ago)

i love being able to give priority to individual files within the torrent

utorrent is much better. (they should call it mutorrent probably but people are idiots)

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 03:28 (nineteen years ago)

µtorrent, anyway

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 03:30 (nineteen years ago)

you get to pick and choose with mootorrent? that was the big attraction with azureus for me (i've never had any problems with it yet)

j blount (papa la bas), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 03:30 (nineteen years ago)

yeah i love the pick-and-choose.

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 03:35 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, it has that functionality but not all the plugin bells and whistles Azureus has. It's also a lot smaller, footprint-wise.
