jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

harris is pretty rad too.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

ok i put it in my netflix

Yes, I have heard of pizza (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

tho in one episode yesterday daniel was wearing a t-shirt with the pettibon art from "jealous again" which probably wasn't out by the time the episode occurs in.

plus wtf no members only jackets?

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

ok "jealous again" came out in '80 but i still think no way this dude knew about it, man.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

I bought the Undeclared set the day it came out because I remembered it being really good and was excited about it, but I'm halfway through watching the whole thing and it's kinda disappointing. It's funny, but the characters are really poorly developed and bland compared to the F&G characters. But the episodes with Eric, Lizzie's boyfriend who's played by the guy who played Nick on Freaks & Geeks, are awesome. That guy's the best at playing creepy obsessive boyfriends.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

RENT IT, DON'T BUY IT

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

I don't like the name. It's so...American.

Yes, I have heard of pizza (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:41 (twenty years ago)

IT'S AN AMERICAN SHOW

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

You can call it "KNOBS & WANKERS" instead if you want.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

"CHIMNEYSWEEPS & LORRIES"

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

"WHIGS & TORIES"

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

"BAD FOOD & BAD TEETH"

haha n/a!

freaks & geeks is great

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 18:02 (twenty years ago)

One thing I love about the Apatow shows is that he likes to have characters that are initially joke/background characters, but then he brings them to the front and fleshes them out and has whole episodes about them. I'm thinking of Millie in F&G, who starts out as just the dorky neighbor but becomes the parallel Lindsey, but also Alan the bully, the gym teacher, etc. He does the same thing with Eric and Perry in Undeclared.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to get banned again, aren't I.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

mr. fredricks the gym teacher played by biff from "back to the future" = awesome casting

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

You just started watching it, right? Mr. Fredricks gets even better in the later episodes.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

the sex ed one where you can't hear what they're saying in the gym teacher's office, but you can see all the range of emotions in Sam's face is classic.

i was also thinking of being Bill dressed as 6million dollar woman for halloween

JAXON (jaxon), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 18:24 (twenty years ago)

i guess now is the time to post this

(now would be the right time to indicate how OMG holy seriously I identify with Sam.)

Remy (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 18:31 (twenty years ago)

i don't identify with anyone on the show, it was nothing like high school for me. but it is funny regardless.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 18:32 (twenty years ago)

gagahahg I love the casting of "Biff". He was avery sympathetic charecter too. Also, the big surprise episode.

the food has a top snake of 1 (ex machina), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 18:36 (twenty years ago)

Undeclared is FUNNY - see: Seth Rogen
i watched the entire series last night. it's not as well develeped a show as Freaks & Geeks but how could it be, each episode being 22 minutes?

lemin (lemin), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

also, jason segel in new cbs sitcom with alyson hannigan and neil patrick harris wtf

lemin (lemin), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

HAVERCHUK.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 10:07 (twenty years ago)

Undeclared is FUNNY - see: Seth Rogen

so fucking true. watching Undeclared right now. on episode 4.

i seriously would love to death if Seth Rogen was a real life friend. dude is amazingly funny. he and haverchuck are roommates.

JAXON (jaxon), Thursday, 1 September 2005 04:33 (twenty years ago)

the thing about Undeclared is that all the episodes are out of order, even on the dvd. the correct sequence is online though ...

lemin (lemin), Thursday, 1 September 2005 05:17 (twenty years ago)

the havercuck montage!

the one with larry sanders

so good

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 1 September 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

i love how the dad is always saying "i once knew a guy who ___________and you know where he is now? HE'S DEAD. cracks me up every time.

kephm (kephm), Thursday, 1 September 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
Sam: I hate when they do this. I mean, why do jocks think it's so funny?
Bill: They think clean-outs are funny, they think wedgies are funny, they think swirlies are funny.... Where do they find time to play sports?

Neal: Sam, he gave you a porno, I wouldn't exactly say you have a meaningful relationship with him.

Jean: Our daughter in the top one percent. Like my grandpa used to say, if I was wearing my vest, all the buttons would pop.

Neal: Oh, Bill, don't be a thief again. You always fall down a well trying to steal stuff.

Sara: I've had a crush on you since the sixth grade.
Nick: Really?
Sara: I always sat behind you even though you were so tall I couldn't see the board.

Gordon: Watch out for him. He's sneaky.
Bill: Yeah, yeah, he thinks being the dungeon master gives him a license to mess with our heads.
Harris: Oh, I'm sorry, perhaps I should let you encounter kittens and grandmas so as not to upset you.

Daniel: All right, fine, I'll be a dwarf, but my name is Carlos.
Bill: Carlos the dwarf?
Daniel: Yeah, you got a problem with that, Gorthon?

Bill: Does him wanting to play with us again mean that he's turning into a geek or we're turning into cool guys.
Sam: I don't know, but I'm gonna go for us being cool guys.
Neal: Yeah, I'll buy that.
Harris: Yeah, definitely cool guys.
Sam: Cool.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 September 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

the central characters in this show (ESPECIALLY lindsay and sam) are utter duds. i'm only halfway through the season and i'm already tired of lindsay's disgusted moral conscience alarm face, and i'm having a hard time finding *anything* likeable about sam. their friends, on the other hand, make the goddamned show! bill and harris and ken and even neal are totally hilarious, i'm hoping their backstories get fleshed out a little more in the season's second half.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 22 September 2005 15:39 (twenty years ago)

I relate to Sam more than any other fictional character, ever.

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 22 September 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

lindsey is supposed to be kind of a dud, i think. she's in the thick of her annoying, insecure, awkward phase plus she's a spoiled know-it-all and she's smart enough to realize that her life isn't going the way she'd like it to but not perceptive enough to figure out what could make her happy.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 22 September 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

i liked how in the nick-gets-kicked-out-of-his-house episode (i watched last night) she's all like complaining about "i know what it's like having a tough dad" and her dad is all like "no, lindsey, you don't." joe flaherty rules. also, so roffly to see him dis neil peart! "great white north," dude! take that moranis and thomas!

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 September 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

dad is so good: "i knew a girl in school who cut class. you know where she is now? DEAD."

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 22 September 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

yeah i actually like both the parents, they're pretty rad.

i realize lindsay's supposed to be a know-it-all and that but i really drift off whenever it's obvious that the show is trying to make me feel something for her.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 22 September 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

was kinda bummed at some things being too predictible. like it was obvious she was gonna go see the dead. but really psyched to hear "box of rain." would've been more psyched had lindsey not done stupid stereotypical girl-dancing-to-dead dance in the sequence, tho.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 September 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

I saw one ep when it aired, and just too close to my era/situation to enjoy. Maybe.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:04 (twenty years ago)

also there's no way daniel could possibly listen to "damaged" in 1980!

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

honestly, the whole show should be about bill.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

he is definitely the best character.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

My vote's for Harris. My best friend in elementary school acted like Harris and looked like Gordon Crisp.

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

no way. harris, while funny, isn't really all that interesting or unique.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

how bad is the last episode??

i like lindsay and sam!! a lot!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

dude, the last episode has GORTHON THE THIEF!!!!

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:44 (twenty years ago)

yeah, the d&d scene is enough to elevate that episode to classic status.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:49 (twenty years ago)

slocki you're out of the will. also, i'm giving you my lindsay so-disgusted face.

no major spoilers please!

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 22 September 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

I wanted no part of D&D in HS. I went no further into medieval shit than Python's Holy Grail.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 22 September 2005 19:18 (twenty years ago)

Good show.

jeffrey (johnson), Thursday, 22 September 2005 19:41 (twenty years ago)

the last episode SUCKS, d&d aside. total BS!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 22 September 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

i dunno, the black bowling alley bouncer who hates disco pretty much rules it.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 September 2005 20:09 (twenty years ago)

my best friend through elementary school and some of middle school was so ridiculously Harris. I mean, it's really uncanny - all of his lines were amazing but the kittens and grandmas one had me rofling for a long long time.

However, no one tops Bill.

lemin (lemin), Thursday, 22 September 2005 20:13 (twenty years ago)

Bill looks exactly like how my cousin used to. How we pitied him. All of my guy friends in high school were like closet Neils, even the "cool" ones.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 22 September 2005 20:22 (twenty years ago)

remember the last eps. were a rush job slutsky!

I heart william. j. haverchuck

YOU ALMOST STABBED YOURSELF IN THE FACE LIKE A HULKAMANIAC (jaxon), Monday, 26 September 2005 02:41 (twenty years ago)

evidently neal was at the new yrs party my roomate had and i refused to attend.

and evidently noonce could call him by his real name the whole time.

i watched the whole season in like a week last fall, since tehn my roommates boxset has disappeared...this thread makes me need to revisit it...

the whole bit where the parents listen to "squeeze box" is goddamned amazing

bb (bbrz), Monday, 26 September 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

four weeks pass...
ok so I am 9 episodes in and I like it now.

The only people I don't like are the parents. the dad has this annoying tone and he plays it a bit too broad, like he should be in Malcolm In The Middle or somehting. The mother is just kind of gross.

I like Sam.

My favorite characters are bill and harris and especially ELI and MILLIE.

Kurt Russell in the Chinese Quarter (nordicskilla), Monday, 24 October 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

My wife is actually like a cross between Lindsay and MILLIE. It's hilarious.

Kurt Russell in the Chinese Quarter (nordicskilla), Monday, 24 October 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

your wife sounds pretty foxy.

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Monday, 24 October 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

it's true

Kurt Russell in the Chinese Quarter (nordicskilla), Monday, 24 October 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

I agree that Joe Flaherty is a little broad, especially at the beginning. He gets better as it goes. I love the mom, she's so REAL. Especially on the Halloween episode.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 24 October 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

The parents really do develop as the series progresses. I love the Gene Krupa episode.

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Monday, 24 October 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

im 12 episodes in now. i 'awww!ed' through the whole muttonchops (i cant remember anyones name) falling for tuba girl episode. im glad she was so easy.

the coach is my favorite. i like nick too.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 24 October 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

i watched 4 episodes of Undeclared last night. i almost peed myself in laughter.

kim kelly (busy phillips) came on as a character named Kelly that muttonchops (Seth Rogen) has the hots for. in the booklet that comes w/the dvds, he says to watch for his hard-on when he has to kiss her.

jaxon (jaxon), Monday, 24 October 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)
