the pr00de abides (pr00de), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 05:05 (twenty years ago)

Spencer's the one who likes a lot of dance music and does graphic design, Sterling's the one who spells enough "enuf" sometimes and reps for Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

gear (gear), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 05:10 (twenty years ago)

I always mix up D.V. and M.V.

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 05:35 (twenty years ago)

D.V. is some Irish chap, I think. M.V. used to be a troll.

gear (gear), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 05:37 (twenty years ago)

i've met both spencer and sterling. spencer and i once spent a long time talking about cold war nuclear testing!! he is smrt.

astor riviera (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 10:01 (twenty years ago)

Sterling's the one who spells enough "enuf" sometimes

spencer is a nice dude. sterling i dont understand, tho he seemed like a nice dude too.

strng hlkngtn: what does it mean? (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

Spencer is funny; is he actually taking the piss?

Jonothong Williamsmang (ex machina), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

Spencer is nice and a total fox.

Sterling once said on ILM that there were no ghettos in San Francisco. I think he confused SF with Santa Barbara.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

they are both pretty nice, in person.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

they both seem cool, I just skim most everything i read on here. cutty and cozen could be the same dude for all i know.

:[ (Adrian Langston), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 18:09 (twenty years ago)

also, and I realize this thread is pretty stupid (i hate dudes who are all like "lol i don't know anything!!!!!!"), but... Aaron Z/W/A/K? Same dude?

:[ (Adrian Langston), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

howell huser (chaki), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

xpost jess i don't understand me either (oh, and santa barbara doesn't have ghettos but it has for serious barrios)

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

spencer and sterling are BOTH my bros.

Allyzay knows a little German (allyzay), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 22:49 (twenty years ago)

there's no reason to lock this thread.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 23:01 (twenty years ago)

Spencer is my Saint Etienne bro, Sterling is my Peckinpah bro. which reminds me: Peckinpah!

gear (gear), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 23:04 (twenty years ago)

i still have not seen pat garrett, because it is never in the video stores i go to. so this is very exciting! did you see that documentary on starz or bravo or whatever about his westerns? kristofferson did all the narration!

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 23:49 (twenty years ago)

They're both nice. They, like me, both used to have AZN AVENUE accounts and all we did was talk about HAIR DYE ADVICE (for bangs only), violence at raves, and how much we were respected/feared in the Southern California asian gang scene. Spencer is the only one who survived and stayed while Stering and I fled to more peaceful locales. Do you know how Spencer keeps that sexy little mouth of his so crispy? COCAINE PASTE TOOTHPASTE WITH EXFOLIATING MACHETE FRAGMENTS FROM MACHETES THAT HAVE KILLED SOMEONE NAMED TRUONG or 'LIL JACKY LEUNG' (R.I.P.).

LeCoq (LeCoq), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 01:48 (twenty years ago)

man you're in for a treat, brover. it's a really strange movie in a lot of ways. not the least of which is Dylan's performance. but it's also one of the sadder films i've ever seen, it's all about dying and knowing it's coming and that there's nothing you can do about it. among other things.

gear (gear), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 01:51 (twenty years ago)

What's actually kinda scary is that all the hongers I rolled with thru grades 9-10 show up on local municipal court dockets if you google them, all for cocaine trafficking. The guy whose name I just based the LEUNG joke on actually died by driving his Lotus Esprit in Richmond into a telephone pole, and was impossible to physically identify at the scene. Sorry about that - though if i know him like i knew him, he probably deserved it. He taxed the fuck outta ppl even in high school (extort 'satellite hongers' aka the hongers who lived in Vancouver alone because their ultra-rich parents thought they should learn english and live abroad for life experience, and in the end they have to pay their own peoples not to get shot). 3Ric H4Mber Secondary School, I am SO glad I never attended you.

Jonothong Williamsmang (ex machina), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 02:03 (twenty years ago)

I'm writing an article right now on being an AZN in Vancouver's music scene - it's pretty funny (though I wrote a similar piece last year which got cut by 500 words and totally de-fanged bcz the publication's office probably woulda got firebombed). Basically, because of the shit I just talked about upthread, if you are AZN (or brown), and you're at a 'scene' event that isn't a rave or thug show, you have to dress super SUPER indie, I mean everything anyone with any sense would make fun of eg. Club Bang pics, or everyone thinks you're some gangster who stumbled into the event by mistake. My friend/employee, who has had the Van. danceparty scene on lock for three years now told me, "Dude, keep wearing your thug clothes to my nights - seriously, when all the art skids see a fuckin azn guy in hip-hop clothes who knows more words to the songs than all the white people, they FREAK - it's like their worlds are crashing down around you. Vancouver's no 'melting pot' and it's ESPECIALLY the hipsters who are the most racist." This is after he played Three Six Mafia for the first time at some indie night and the floor immediately cleared because it wasn't Hey Ya or Shake That Ass.

LeCoq (LeCoq), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 02:05 (twenty years ago)

gear I knew this kid in elementary school w last name SORG whose dad SUPPOSEDLY had nazi ties. This is the kid who gave me my first NWA cassette ever and changed my life. Whoever started that rumor about his dad was a fucking asshole and I hope he's in year three of The Meth Years right this minute.

LeCoq (LeCoq), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 02:09 (twenty years ago)

the rumor guy, not Sorg's dad. Sorg's dad didn't even get that pissed off when I accidentally shot a roman candle ball that ricocheted off something right into his stomach!

I don't know the difference between Spencer Chow and Sterling Clover and Le Coq

Sterling Chow (dr g), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 02:14 (twenty years ago)

My name is Craig, I live in Calgary and book a club here called the Night Gallery Cabaret. I live in a house that has seen many room mates and many of those room mates, upon leaving, have left many interesting items behind. One evening I decided to go through a stack of unmarked/unclaimed video tapes. On one of those tapes was this 'dude' playing bang on air drums to 'black album era' metallica. He was making excellent rock faces and wearing nothing but a pair of bart simpson "radical dude" shorts. I though it was quite funny to say the least and started playing the tape on the Night Gallery's video projector between bands. Patrons stopped drinking and talking, slowly turned their heads and stared. I also played the tape for many of my friends. One of those friends was Neko Case who was in town with another dear friend Carolyn Mark for their first Corn Sisters tour; they were both staying at 'the house'. It is a well known fact that both Neko and Carolyn are in possession of robust senses of humour and so demanded copies for themselves.
I made Neko a copy of the Metallica portion of the tape the next time she came through town. She returned to Vancouver where she was living at the time and either gave or made a copy to her then roommate Robin Iwata (formerly of CUB). I believe Robin was splitting her time between Vancouver and San Francisco at the time and started the band Iamspoonbender with Dustin Donaldson (formerly of Pansy Division). Once it got into Dustin's hands...well, the rest as the say is history.

Pre-History: Metallica Drummers real name is Kevin Dabs. He is a friend of an old roommate of mine from 'the house'. He also happens to be an actor. Both my room mate and Kevin (a part time actor) were doing dinner theatre together in Winnipeg and were sharing accomodations (a hotel room) for weeks on end.
Kevin was constantly video taping himself and friends. Apparantly Kevin was also in the habit of bursting into other actors rooms unannounced. Armed with only a boom box (and one could hope a pair of 'radical dude shorts') he would surprise/treat them to a 'harsh' airdrumming session and then disappear as quickly as he arrived.
At the end of the dinner theater's run, both Kevin and my roommate packed up their belongings and went their separate ways, with one of Kevins video tapes accidentally packed in my roommates suitcase. Which is how it fell into my hot little hands, and then of course, everybody elses.

The End.

My name is Craig, I live in Calgary and book a club here called the Night Gallery Cabaret

i've been there.

also, apparently n3k0 c@s3 told britishes girl that i was cute or something, you'd have to ask her.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 02:55 (twenty years ago)

oh man fucking fantastic. you dog.

gear (gear), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 03:23 (twenty years ago)

i had a brief, awkward conversation with n3k0 c@5e after a show once. not the same thing.

gear (gear), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 03:24 (twenty years ago)

i didn't actually talk to her, nor did i recognize her, at teh afterparty, as she had taken stevie nicksish yellow flowing dress (they covered "dreams") off for more comfortable attire.

during the encore they wished britishes girl happy birthday. that was rather nice of them, as it was her birthday.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 03:26 (twenty years ago)

oh wow hstencil just dropped a name on us

*brotally shocked*
