all I have to say is: Jimi (Remix) by Bongloads of Righteous Boo on the Deep Funnels of Entry comp is where its at.

actually, the whole comp is pretty great. Twisted Village comp on Shock.

yeah, cover of a song by Terry Brooks & Strange. it originally appeared on the Stars That Play With Dead Jimi's Dice comp on Twisted Village.

Vermonster rule. I have all three albums. It was Wayne & Kate, plus Jimmy Johnson from Forced Exposure! Also, someone named David Lynch, but apparently not "the" DL. Also, Rebecca Odes from Love Child ... that's her on the cover of Spirit of YMA. Instinctively Inhuman was two side-long tracks ... covers of tunes by Human Instinct and, um, I forget what the other one was. I'll check when I get home.

They were a great gateway drug for me. REcord collector dream band -- totally tried to seek out the originals of all the tunes that they covered. I heard their cover of "Children of the Sun" way before I ever heard the original. THe vocals on their version are so so great. Totally awesome snarl. Also great was their version of AUM's "You Better Run". The way the guy shouts "GET STONED!" on their version of Bent Wind's "The Lions" is good stuff.

ha .. I just read that Julian Cope review. He thinks the line in "The Lions" is "GUITAR!" when it is totally "GET STONED!". He is a funny dude.

"You will notice her in any crowd: wild hair, long legs, bright clothes and strong opinions.
Rebecca Odes, 30, is mostly known as a co-founder (with Esther Drill and Heather MacDonald) and creative director of gURL, a dynamic interactive online community for teenage girls, with 19 mln page views a month.
What is left behind the scenes is that she is not only a graphic artist and an interactive gURL, but also a musician. She founded two bands, studied in three schools and art directed tens of projects.

Her first band, Love Child, was born in Vassar, during the "early generation of Indie Rock scene", shortly after Pavement and Super Chunk. She played bass guitar and wrote her own lyrics. Love Child became an unexpected success: released two albums (available on Music Boulevard), toured U.S. and Europe, and got Kurt Cobain as a fan.

However, in Rebecca's words, she "couldn't figure out how to combine drawing and music", and "was tired of people being surprised that she was smart". After graduate art school in Chicago and Love Child's falling apart, she created a new band Odes (available here in RA), and moved to New York and into multimedia, "a place where she'd seem intelligent until proven otherwise". That was the beginning of gURL."

Love Child was succesful?

The Holy Sound Of American Pipe is fucking incredible! I'd put it on right now if a) I had a turntable at the moment and b) it wasn't 2.41 a.m.
