alright, my mom just called me worried. my 17 yr old sister goes to a rich private school in LA. she's cute, smart, captain of cheerleading squad, but she's been getting in a bunch of trouble lately.

so,
1) mom wakes up at 2 or 3 in the morning and sis was finishing paper, but totally wired. more wired than someone should have been after working on a paper all afternoon/night.
2) mom heard her say "glass" on phone
3) she had some weird burn marks on her mouth and nose. she says it's from hot tea (which she doesn't really drink). mom saw her less than 24 hours before, so it couldn't have been some wickedly fast herpes break out.

is she doing speed? i really don't get the burn marks. 1 & 2 could be anything, but 3 is really weirding us out. where could she have burned her face like that. freebasing?

are we being overly paranoid? let a girl have her fun? she's still getting good grades

stupid shit.

getting caught in airplane bathroom w/boy (while they were landing!)

staying out at girlfriends (?) houses.

she's still getting good grades, and from what i know of her, she's pretty level headed. we grew up in a pretty boring suburb of LA (westchester). i went to public school, she goes to ritzy private school across town (brentwood) with all sorts of rich kids. lawyer and celebrity kids. she became really popular really fast and i think it went to her head. she's been like most teenage girls and fights with my mom all the time. she feels like she needs to keep up w/all the rich, under supervised kids and so gets in trouble. falls prey to peer pressure.

Then again, cold sores do break out pretty fast, esp after you first get them. not the kind of thing teenagers like to talk about, what it being a "kissing disease."
Speed wouldn't interfere with grades much, it's a writer's drug after all.
I'd watch out for her disappearing for days, missing appointments, sleeping for more than 12 hours upon return, etc.

I spoke with Chelsea last night on the whole issue. Started out ugly, but got better. At this point I am inclined to go along with her that she is a "good kid and has never even seen speed or coke." Still keepin our eyes open but probably not necessary to pursue the pipe thing.
