TIME TO MAKE THE BRONUTS!!@!@

GET EQUIPPED WITH BUBBLE LEAD (ex machina), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 22:07 (twenty years ago)

are you anticipating the graham and metropolitan dunkin donuts? they have oompah loompah awnings up.

ShawShank Rambo Connection (Carey), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 22:15 (twenty years ago)

munchkins are delicious, it is true. their flesh is wonderfully tender, like veal.

the donuts are rad too.

the only thing i like about the double D is their big gulp iced coffees for like 2 bucks.

ShawShank Rambo Connection (Carey), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 22:27 (twenty years ago)

DOES ANYONE HERE KNOW HOW TO PLAY "THE MUNCHKIN GAME"???

elmo, patron saint of nausea (allocryptic), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 22:28 (twenty years ago)

to play:

1) acquire $1 to $2 in assorted small change
2) go to dunkin's, preferably a 24-hour location, late at night
3) show change to counterperson, ask "how many munchkins will this get me?"
4) receive lots & lots of almost-day-old munchkins -- far in excess of your investment!

elmo, patron saint of nausea (allocryptic), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 22:31 (twenty years ago)

5) ????

carey you see that the graham dd already got its window smashed?

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 22:48 (twenty years ago)

i have not actually walked past it close up yet. that kind of sucks. it's not like you can't walk 4 block south and see a mcdonalds, subway and payless shoes already.

ShawShank Rambo Connection (Carey), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 22:52 (twenty years ago)

maybe people only hate franchises that opened after they moved to w'burg.

ShawShank Rambo Connection (Carey), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 22:53 (twenty years ago)

but that Subway on bedford kind of sucks, if only for it's humongoid sign.

ShawShank Rambo Connection (Carey), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 22:54 (twenty years ago)

sposedly mcdonald's has bought/is buying the salvation army space at n7th and bedford

i won't touch dunkin' donuts' baked goods since that big expose from a few years ago where they showed all the mouse droppings in the trays. i love their coffee though!

miss michael learned (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 5 January 2006 00:30 (twenty years ago)

the graham dd should put mama b's/satchmo's outta business (sorry cutty). but they best not fuck with the bagel shop on metropolitan.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 5 January 2006 00:34 (twenty years ago)

does dd make meals, sandwiches, bagels? the only reason i go there is for iced coffee to go.

ShawShank Rambo Connection (Carey), Thursday, 5 January 2006 02:10 (twenty years ago)

ya they make bagel or croissant breakfast sandwiches

i think their hot coffee is kinda shitty, plus they don't let you add your own sugar or cream.

HAKKEBOFFER (eman), Thursday, 5 January 2006 02:18 (twenty years ago)

dd makes terrible bagels.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 5 January 2006 03:20 (twenty years ago)

oven-stale

HAKKEBOFFER (eman), Thursday, 5 January 2006 03:27 (twenty years ago)

you don't go to DD for the bagels you fat fucks

GET EQUIPPED WITH BUBBLE LEAD (ex machina), Thursday, 5 January 2006 04:28 (twenty years ago)

no shit, you go to the bagel shop, dumbass.

I like the maple frosted..
OK one thing I really miss from RI is I am no longer always within 5 blocks of a Dunkin Donuts.

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 5 January 2006 16:25 (twenty years ago)

i had no clue about the northeast's obsession with DD. I was driving around Boston trying to find my friend's place and called her to get my bearings. She asked where I was and I said "There's a Dunkin Donuts on the corner." Everyone in the car started laughing.

ShawShank Rambo Connection (Carey), Thursday, 5 January 2006 16:32 (twenty years ago)

DD's ubiquity is pretty much the reason for its success, at least in the Northeast. The coffee is alright, but I think the reason their coffee is so worshipped is that DD uses FULL CREAM in your coffee, not half & half. Fatties love it, but black coffee drinkers will tell you that DD coffee is shitty.

elmo, patron saint of nausea (allocryptic), Thursday, 5 January 2006 16:48 (twenty years ago)

Does DD beat Tim Hortons? How does Krispy Kreme slot in? KK don't have a lot of variety in the UK, even if they've only been here for a year or so. Still, I don't think I could eat more than two without my mouth going all pasty and dry and weird. That glaze weighs a ton.

Mestema (davidcorp), Thursday, 5 January 2006 16:56 (twenty years ago)

interesting article here about the marketing of dunkin donuts 2.0:

that's like that snl skit of a game show set in new england, "how do you get there?" or something like that. every answer was like "take a right at the dunkin' donuts" in a wicked hawdkoah bawston accent.

thought it was pretty weird to see krispy kreme in harrod's.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 5 January 2006 17:10 (twenty years ago)

I drink my coffee black and actually DD coffee is not too bad.. & excellent if you buy the beans and make it yourself. I have yet to find any place - ANY place - where you can reliably get a good cup of plain black coffee. 99% of the time it's shitty and maybe 1% of the time you've ordered right when they've made a fresh pot and sometimes it's not terrible.

Maybe the thing about DD in New England is, so many people go there you have a v good chance of getting freshly brewed coffee.

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 5 January 2006 17:16 (twenty years ago)

i only drink iced coffee which helps because you can never tell if the coffee is good or bad. hot liquids make me sleepy.

ShawShank Rambo Connection (Carey), Thursday, 5 January 2006 17:53 (twenty years ago)

timmy ho's coffee is far superior to that of dd.

tres letraj (tehresa), Thursday, 5 January 2006 18:58 (twenty years ago)

i wonder if the graham food curse will strike the quality of their goods, even if they are syndicated. is it on graham or metro? (i havent walked up that far in a while.) if its on graham it will invariably be just kinda bad...

bb (bbrz), Thursday, 5 January 2006 19:04 (twenty years ago)

graham food curse?

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 5 January 2006 19:29 (twenty years ago)

The DD on Graham near the Flushing JMZ is abominable. A lot of this is due to the poor English of the employees, sorry--it's kind of important when you're working with customers. Stuff like giving me two breakfast sandwiches instead of a number 2, deciding that when I order two meals that the second one actually replaces the first and only making that one for me, putting sugar in coffee when I ask for no sugar almost without exception, and looking at me like I'm a space monster when I order a dozen donuts (and not knowing where to find the chocolate frosted donuts when I order them and kind of shrugging confusedly, wtf). Way worse than the DD on Thayer St. in Providence where the two girls who worked there just used to sit outside smoking all the time.

I used to spend probably $100 a month on DD in RI, but I can't fucking deal with that shit.

i have only been to satchmo's once when it first opened. the brunch was ok, although i thought they needed to work on their home fries and the portions on the huevos rancheros.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Thursday, 5 January 2006 21:08 (twenty years ago)

all of the "bess eatin' donuts" in RI are being rpelaced to timmy ho's, btw. bot that i'm lamenting the fact--bess eatin' used to put bible verses on their styrofoam cups.

They also sold TANKS of coffee filled with CRUSHED ICE. And Testamints (mints with crosses imprinted into them). And cigarettes.

R.I.P. BESS EATON

Laura H. (laurah), Thursday, 5 January 2006 21:10 (twenty years ago)

extra guac or tofu sour cream is crazy pricey at loco burrito.

ShawShank Rambo Connection (Carey), Thursday, 5 January 2006 21:18 (twenty years ago)

i did not know they sold cigarettes at bess eaton!

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Thursday, 5 January 2006 21:20 (twenty years ago)

Ohno, I never went to Bess Eaton, where were they?!

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 5 January 2006 21:26 (twenty years ago)

a lot in the suburbs.. warwick/east greenwich/cranston. there wasn't one near brown/college hill area, i don't think. or downtown. or on the west side.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Thursday, 5 January 2006 21:28 (twenty years ago)

and coventry

Laura H. (laurah), Thursday, 5 January 2006 21:29 (twenty years ago)

I was out in Warwick (SAVERS) or East Providence or down city more than I was around college hill almost, I tried to get away from there as much as possible, especially in the year before I left. I think I've been out in East Greenwich though. probably just didn't notice the bess eaton. sorry, not to bag on Rhode Island, I like Rhode Island, but trying to do school up there was a complete hell on earth..

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 5 January 2006 21:33 (twenty years ago)

there was one in WYOMING RI or somewhere near J0N0 B1LL1NG5 old house.

pumpkin spice doughnuts, yo! although i'll only buy them pre-packaged (see above post re DD and store cleanliness).

i go for carmines pizza and thats it...

joel, loco burrito somehow manage to make burritos that taste like sawdust. how is that even possible? the place on meeker...el tio or whatever is on the mark with their 15 lb burritos with a fan of avacado on top...

you mean the elfish girl at pheobes? yes..sehr cute..but their coffee's terrible. havent had food there in ages because of that..i do enjoy the quotient of loony matrons on graham though...i used to kinda enjoy the stoner dude from mamma b's but enough of not remembering what i ordered like 12 seconds later dude...again, coffee not so good.

najibs kinda kreeps me out cause that dudes always so chattery...but the foods pretty good.

this has long confused my friends and i..what is it about graham ave that destroys the taste of food

bb (bbrz), Friday, 6 January 2006 14:19 (twenty years ago)

have you guys tried that one faggoty new fancy restaurant near daddy's, called like fanny or something? looks horrible. the italian place across from daddy's is ok on $8 pasta night.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 6 January 2006 15:39 (twenty years ago)

Fuck you Jon I got fucking Scarlet Fever from filthy fucking New York. I'm gonna wash my hands before eating with them after touching surfaces on the subway that would glow like Chernobyl under blacklights. Next I get that sick I'll spit on all your Toblerones and see how much hygiene begins to concern you.

Laura H. (laurah), Friday, 6 January 2006 15:58 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, that was uncalled for. I'm just in a bad mood because I lost a bag.

Laura H. (laurah), Friday, 6 January 2006 16:02 (twenty years ago)

fanny's? i wish that were true...that might be even better that the fat cock or whatever that place was called. or the hole...way gayer

no haven't gone in..is it even open?

speaking of graham ave., is anyone drinking tonight? i'm trying to ajust to being single on a friday night again.

yeah that place is ok joel...i used to get stuff from there pretty often a couple years ago...i never ate at the place higher up on like ainsle or whatever...they used to have a 1$ martini night, but i figured going to it would be a good way for me to end up in the fuckig river.

bb (bbrz), Friday, 6 January 2006 16:23 (twenty years ago)

THE tempeh BLT at phoebe's was good today. the marinated tofu sandw. was a bit bland as must tofu sanwiches are. PEOPLE NEED TO START USING TWIN OAKS HERB TOFU THAT YOU CAN GET AT TOPPS OR INTEGRAL YOGA IN BULK. NICE AND DENSE AND TASTY FOR SANDWICHES. NOT SPONGY.

ShawShank Rambo Connection (Carey), Friday, 6 January 2006 16:25 (twenty years ago)

the thing about tofu is that it takes very well to marination and prep. i know most small little cafes dont have an oven or anything but you can marinate and then bake out a lot of the water content pretty damned easily. i think some of these hippies actually enjoy eating blah food. goddamned martYrs.

bb (bbrz), Friday, 6 January 2006 16:30 (twenty years ago)

i was like, what the hell is a mart Y rs.

i have lived in nyc for a long time and never got scarlet fever. i don't even know what scarlet fever is.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 6 January 2006 16:40 (twenty years ago)

It is the disease that made Mary go blind on Little House on the Prairie and weakened Beth's heart in Little Women which led to her ultimate demise. Its germs were the reason the Velveteen Rabbit was thrown out. It used to kill a lot of people before antibiotics. It covers your whole body in a rash like this and is wicked scary:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v467/laurae55/scarlet.jpg

Laura H. (laurah), Friday, 6 January 2006 16:44 (twenty years ago)

edna st vincent millay and her sYsters got the scarlet fever...it is indeed horrible. did mary ever get her sight back? i remember once listening to the cbs signal over the fm dial in the car to connecticut when i was a kid. it was the episode where she started to see. i can't recall the outcome...

yeah. single...not so cool. if anyone knows anyone that needs/wants to move to greenpoint lemme know, as ill be converting my office/guest room into a room now.

tres letraj (tehresa), Friday, 6 January 2006 19:48 (twenty years ago)

Jon we had that very conversation about superbugs and hand sanitizers (I brought it up because I was concerned by it), and you went on about how it wasn't a big deal and how antibiotics and other stuff were much greater threats re: creating resistant bacteria.

Laura H. (laurah), Friday, 6 January 2006 20:02 (twenty years ago)

me and allyzay and ZR had a hunan buffet yesterday, and they told me that there's no possible harm in using anti-bacterial stuff on yr hands - whats the TRUTH?

don't start a RYE-OTT! (plsmith), Friday, 6 January 2006 20:09 (twenty years ago)

ok - jon's links answered that fairly well.

don't start a RYE-OTT! (plsmith), Friday, 6 January 2006 20:10 (twenty years ago)

We didn't say there was NO possible harm, we said that you'd have to use it a LOT in conjunction with other sanitizing problems to create an issue! You using it one time, yesterday, would not give you a disease. I promise.

Tho I won't touch the shit, it makes my hands crack.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Friday, 6 January 2006 20:19 (twenty years ago)
