new heathen shame is fucking excellent.
donloaded the 93 comp deep funnels of entry. might be one of my fav comps of all time.
i dunno man i just generally like their overal aesthetic. really big balled overhauled guitars, rad record style, and just overall packaging is rad.
major stars in 06.

Well, the first Crystallized Movements album. I don't know what label it was originally released on, but it was reissued on Twisted Village. And I believe it's kind of horrible.

mind disaster? how is that a horrible album? chaulk ton o freak outs.
i love that dude

brock (brock), Friday, 20 January 2006 02:58 (twenty years ago)

Just listening again a little. There are some cool licks and solo lines (don't know if they constitute "freakouts" just because he's using a fuzztone, though). But those are truly some horrible songs, bro.

I remember not liking the Gate record that came out on Twisted Village, the CD, not the 7", which was good. And I was a BIG Gate fan.

Deep Funnels of Entry is CLASSIC, I still listen to it, or selections from it, quite often.

the Gate record that came out on Twisted Village did kind of bum me out *at first* ... (we are talking about teh one w/ Morley and teh other dude in front of the big fish sculpture, eh?) .. it didn't seem as mysterious or incisive as Morley's other stuff to that point; it just seemed like this big mass of noise without much vision .. but then, upon a later listen, I totally copped this downer vibe. Like, it's a pretty intense record and there are all these sort of down-swoops that they do, tremolo-bar dive-bombs and slides and things that just give this sort of DOOM impression. and yeah, if yer in the mood for it, it'll definitely scratch an itch. but ... a mood piece to be sure.

Fuckin LOVE lots of stuff here though .. Wayne's "Ego River", the Stars That Played With Dead Jimi's Dice comp, all Vermonster ... and oh yeah, I LOVE that Deep Funnels of Entry comp Brock! I borrowed a copy of the Wormdoom cd, and the best cuts are totally already on Deep Funnels ...

But yeah, great aesthetic, GREAT people (hard to meet nicer peeps than Wayne + Kate), great lo-fi soundz , can't complain.

and actually I sorta agree w/ Tim --- man, it took Crstlzd Mvmnts a long time to hit their stride ... definitely a band that got better as they went along. They are kind of like the Screaming Trees in that sense, to my mind (know W+K would hate that comparison!); but This Wideness Comes and then Revelations were like woah

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 20 January 2006 05:40 (twenty years ago)

yeah, that's the Gate record. The one on Table of the Elements was the one I REALLY loved. I'd listen to it every night before going to bed sophomore year of college. It was like the record I always wanted Lee Ranaldo to make.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 20 January 2006 06:07 (twenty years ago)

stormy, been lookin to track down more wormdoom. there is only one track by them on the funnels comp! i want more because of that cut

brock (brock), Friday, 20 January 2006 06:58 (twenty years ago)

i think that gate record was the first one i got by them. still got it.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 20 January 2006 15:23 (twenty years ago)

brock I can try to borrow teh CD again .. I'll let you know if I can hook a bro up

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 20 January 2006 16:35 (twenty years ago)

i got "last days boogie" from them when major stars last played here. fucking awesome.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 20 January 2006 16:53 (twenty years ago)

so they never really tour outside of new england/new york right?

brock (brock), Friday, 20 January 2006 17:16 (twenty years ago)

they being major stars

brock (brock), Friday, 20 January 2006 17:16 (twenty years ago)

Wish they would, they are great.
The only Twisted Village record I own is Tono Bungay's ROUGH MUSIC.
It's jammin.

Tripmaker (SDWitzm), Friday, 20 January 2006 18:01 (twenty years ago)

not usually, no. i wonder, tho, if they'll tour more when the new one comes out.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 20 January 2006 19:36 (twenty years ago)

I think Mind Disaster is pretty amazing for its time (1983) Granted, it's not as if they were breaking ground necessary as much as taking a familiar subgenre of psych rock and making it sound of its time, or IMHO later than that... then again, I think the final epic "Psychotical Delusions" pretty much carries the entire album. Do I like every song on the album? Not exactly, but I wouldn't call it a horrible album.

Though I agree that they became better as each new album came, with each album being distinct (mainly due to lots of lineup changes outside Wayne). I'm hoping they can reissue their second album on CD at some point, but I doubt it will happen.

XCT HARDCORE 4 LIFEX (scott seward), Friday, 20 January 2006 21:51 (twenty years ago)

The only TV record I have is Magic Hour's No Excess Is Absurd, which is quite good. Are their other releases similar?

Sundar (sundar), Saturday, 21 January 2006 04:37 (twenty years ago)

man i havent even dipped into magic hour outside of the comp material which i def. like. taking it slow.
