i got this freaked out message from my brother's wife yesterday saying my nephew, Manny, had pneumonia and she had strep throat. she said that she needed to go to the emergency room and wanted me to babysit. my brother calls and tells me that i shouldn't have let her go to the hospital because she and the baby only both have the flu. she gets home and all the doctor did was tell her to go to the drug store and buy some nyquil. dumb bitch

team jaxon (jaxon), Monday, 30 January 2006 20:58 (twenty years ago)

Dog proves to be poor babysitter.
Death Stupid 10/07/04 - - tarkus - 2 Comments

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (AP) -- A 5-week-old baby left alone by his grandmother died after being mauled by the family dog.
Jose Diaz was on a bed Tuesday when the dog jumped up and attacked him. Police believe a 7-year-old mutt hurt the boy, though officers also found two other dogs in the house.
The baby had bites on his face and head when his parents, both 19, brought him to a fire station after the attack. He was taken by helicopter to Shands Jacksonville hospital, where he later died.

HELLFAUCET (FAGZ0RD OF THE LAKES), Monday, 30 January 2006 21:17 (twenty years ago)

holy shit that news snippet is fuckin horrible.

ian... yeah, no weeds at my house either. sucks. but overall, if my impression is accurate, i'd assume you'd be pretty good at it. my boys just like to play trains/buzz lightyear/etc, watch dvds, and mostly just chill. although, the littler one tried to ride his tricycle down the basement stairs the other day...

i can sense that he's gonna be like me and do a lot of really stupid things on bikes and skateboards.

the local pre-schools need a toddler stuntman class.

msp (mspa), Monday, 30 January 2006 21:35 (twenty years ago)

Ian, if I had kids I would totally let you babysit them. I think you'd be a better than average babysitter, and that kids would like you.

Laura H. (laurah), Monday, 30 January 2006 22:32 (twenty years ago)

he would play the kids grateful dead and fuck them all up

m.

msp (mspa), Monday, 30 January 2006 23:14 (twenty years ago)

i did last nite. but i don't smoke very much at all anymore. or drink unfortunately cuz i gotta get up so damn early. i only really enjoy pot for the musiclistening/t.v.watching aspects, but i have so much to do all the time it makes me feel guilty and lazy so i lay off.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 30 January 2006 23:17 (twenty years ago)

top 3 albums i listened to stoned last nite (really stoned. this was strong stuff):

harvey mandel - The Snake

Red Rhodes - Velvet Hammer In A Cowboy Band (such a fucked up record. unbelievably so.)

charley d. & milo - s/t (this album should be so fucking famous. so beautiful. the one psych-country album that jaxon should do everything in his power to own.)

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 30 January 2006 23:20 (twenty years ago)

this particular set of noize parents has not smoked pot for a long, long time.

maybe your stepdad was a loser?

jeanne (Tim Ellison), Monday, 30 January 2006 23:20 (twenty years ago)

ooh, a value judgement!

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Monday, 30 January 2006 23:21 (twenty years ago)

haha. a super successful partner in his lawfirm loser

i'm just thinking that the wife smokes way more pot than me, so i doubt it'll be decreed off limits

team jaxon (jaxon), Monday, 30 January 2006 23:33 (twenty years ago)

scott, i've heard of that charley d and milo record (maybe from you?). i'll look for it.

have you heard of Bobby Charles? i'm on the first song of his self titled album (aka Small Town Talk) and it's fucking fab. new awlins swamp pop. worked on the Bands' albums.

team jaxon (jaxon), Monday, 30 January 2006 23:35 (twenty years ago)

maria is a demon. her whole family smokes like it's nothing though. it's like water. i can't be like that. for me it means i'm done for the night.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 30 January 2006 23:37 (twenty years ago)

i looked up charley d & milo on the internet and i got a wikipedia entry, something i had written, and an fmu play-list. that was it. such an amazing record. perfect blend of country, pop, rock, folk. beautiful harmonies. and completely stoned a la notorious byrd brothers. and red rhodes plays guitar on it!!!

that red rhodes album is another one to look out for, jaxon. instrumental steel guitar band EPIC. with a mix of rock and pot smoke. it was the second album on mike nesmith's countryside records.

Charley D. and Milo

CHARLEY D. and MILO - American Psychedelic Folk-Rock recording group of the early 1970s noted for their orignal compositions and laid-back style. Comprised of Charles D. Harris, and Lon Milo Duquette, the duo released two singles (Back Bay Blu and The Word is Love), and an album Charley D. and Milo on the Epic Records label. While they never achieved significant acclaim they are considered a notable influence on music of the day. Their songs were recorded by various other artists and groups including Johnny Rivers.

He was also studio musician and recording artist in the 1970s, releasing two singles and an album, Charley D. and Milo, on the Epic Records label. ah, here it is. from one of my hazlewood threads. just remembed.

you know what is a truly amazing instrumental album is that red rhodes album that mike nesmith put out on his label. pedal steel psych country. it's hard to even describe.
-- scott seward (skotro...), January 5th, 2006 7:14 PM. (scott seward)

red rhodes played on my fave psch-country rekkerd too, by Charlie D. & Milo. and he played on Nesmith's albums too.
-- scott seward (skotro...), January 5th, 2006 7:15 PM. (scott seward)

jaxon, you need that charley d. & milo album, like, yesterday.
-- scott seward (skotro...), January 5th, 2006 7:16 PM. (scott seward)

i just got 3 early Nesmith albums (Magnetic South, Loose Salute & Nevada Fighter). they're great.
one of the owners of Amoeba (Joe Goldsmark) put out a few records in the 70s of instrumental pedal steel. they're surprisingly kinda funky as a bunch of the songs are covers of soul tunes. they're always free in the sale country racks at the store. i've got like 3 sealed copies in case i meet anyone i think would like it (haven't met them yet!)

I only have one song from that but it's great! you got the whole album? I've been meaning to search harder for it. I downloaded the song from Mike McGonigal's site about a year ago ... I always forget what it is when it comes up on iTunes shuffle and that heavy drum lope kicks in, I'm like "who the heck is THIS shit-hot fucking band??" and then I look and remember that The Band plays on it.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 00:07 (twenty years ago)

i'll look for the bobby charles.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 00:15 (twenty years ago)

I don't have the real album, heard it's mad expensive. i just have the mp3s. if you're interested, lemme know (i figured you two don't do the empeethree thing)

team jaxon (jaxon), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 02:14 (twenty years ago)

hah. scott, i just reread yr charles d & milo wiki and the last line about Johnny Rivers... my mom used to date him

team jaxon (jaxon), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 02:27 (twenty years ago)

oh, it's not that I have anything against Mp3s ... I just know that there is a high likelihood that they won't get listened to .. I just hate listening to music on the computer. and I'm always really lazy about putting stuff on the ipod. Bottom line is there is always a huge backlog in the "to listen to" pile so I don't really go out of my way to seek mp3s .. but shit yeah man, if you have that whole Charles album I'd love to hear it! "Street People" was the song that I had. And yeah I remember Mike writing about how insanely hard it was to find the lp (& that it was pricey when he did); that's kinda why I hadn't really been trying too hard and wondered if you'd found it...
