is this band n01z3-bored approved or not?

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I've only heard "Rugs of Prayer" and I think that it's alright.

dean? (deangulberry), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

what about the Danielson Famile? I know for a fact that MSP likes them.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

even though he doesn't post anymore? (gygax?)

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw MSP on a thread just now. The TLASILA thread on ILM?

dean? (deangulberry), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, I don't know what the Danielson Famile is all about. It sounds like it could be a Polyphonic Spree type thing, which bothers me.

dean? (deangulberry), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

okay, now say something else.

no, I HATE the PS, HATE them, but I like the DF.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

they are noisy, does that make them noise?

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

not necessarily.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the only thing that makes you "noise" is being from Providence or lots of self-promotion as "a noise band."

dean? (deangulberry), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

a girl thought I was from Rhode Island.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

girls

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

one of the dudes stole my headphones.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

did you ask ToddP about it?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

are they nice people?

I mean, besides being thieves.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost to Dan - yep! Todd gave me his own headphones, remember?

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

they are nice enough. some are nicer then others. some I've never spoken to. some just take some warming up, like many people. Brian from Gang Gang Dance was DJing w/ some fashionable brit friend of his, perhaps he stole your headphones. You know how english people can be, you know, with the "dole" and all.

Or maybe it was me after all?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck fashionable brits.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

no, fuck YOU

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

oh wait...I'm not fashionable

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

never mind

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

GANG GANG DANCE GANG GANG SUCK

ddb (ddb), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

ddb, I have been listening to JEWELLED ANTLER and STARS OF THE LID (TIRED SOUNDS OF). thanks!

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

the JA made me remeber that I own a Mirza record, but not a particularly good one.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

JEWELLED ANTLER STUFF = LOTS IS GOOD

I saw teh Blithe Sons play in a drainage pipe under a a road in rural wisconsin. I had to pee really badly but couldn't get up to climb out of the pipe without disturbing anyone!

Ian c=====8 (orion), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish I could say I saw bands in interesting venues...is a gay club interesting?

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

TIRED SOUNDS OF is really GREAT.

ddb (ddb), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to not like Gang Gang Dance, but lately they've been sounding really good. Kinda like weird/jazzy post-punk a-la Ludus or Malaria! or something. The last time I saw them, at the Downtown for Democracy benefit w/ James Chance that Hisham put together, they really blew me away.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

New York is good.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Ludus!

Hey Dan, I still didn't get your SY mix, which means I have no excuse to make you a post punk/diy mix.

dleone (dleone), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm imfamously slow. I made the mix. Just haven't sent it. You can wait till you get it. Definitely keep yr mix to the Rock In Opposition side of things, I'm pretty fluent in the messthethics/post-punk side of DIY or whatever.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yeah, nice reminder

dleone (dleone), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Dan, I'm paranoid enough as it is.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

you know what I mean, dominique...cool prog!

Why are you so paranoid?

oh yeah.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

THE WEED

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

WEED + environmental factors + bad genes

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

x ALCOHOL

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

/ free jazz

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

free jazz makes you paranoid?

Ian c=====8 (orion), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

+ pedantry to the ^9

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Is this what they call A NEW YORK STATE OF MIND?

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

god I hope not.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i found the noise place!!!

danielson familee... pretty good stuff. i think there's some beefheart + lo-fi love in there, but way better than polyp on a skree. more jesus followage, less jim jones happy time.

m.

msp (msp), Friday, 20 August 2004 01:39 (twenty-one years ago)

seven months pass...
THE DANIELSON FAMILE HAHAHA

Samuel Glickstein (nordicskilla), Thursday, 14 April 2005 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I like JOSH.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 14 April 2005 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i have never heard GGD but i have seen bro/danielson(e) family/-ie a few times.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 14 April 2005 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

do you like them? oh say you do

Samuel Glickstein (nordicskilla), Thursday, 14 April 2005 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

They are pretty fun... are they still around? I know that they were touring with Deerhoof kinda recently.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 14 April 2005 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know if they are still around. He (BRother Danielson) released a solo record and toured as an apple tree...

Samuel Glickstein (nordicskilla), Thursday, 14 April 2005 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I saw him do that at a church in Berkeley (!!!) with Deerhoof and Soul Junk.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 14 April 2005 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

2002 I think (msp?), it was a 7DA church in the basement which was known as The Ramp.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 14 April 2005 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I loved the Ramp so much.

All ages shows in Berkeley tend to bring out lots of cool young kids, but church-approved shows would bring out weird church kids... I remember playing there once with Why?, at one point in the set the musicians paused to let him end a couplet with a clearly enunciated 'FUCK' and you could actually hear about half of the 100 kids in the room quietly gasp simultaneously

milton parker (Jon L), Friday, 15 April 2005 05:20 (twenty-one years ago)

haha!

(also, on the "haha" tip:)

GANG GANG DANCE GANG GANG SUCK

-- ddb (stupidpum...), August 17th, 2004 11:59 AM. (ddb) (admin) (userip)

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 15 April 2005 06:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Br. Dan as an apple tree was a great show, but WARNING IT MIGHT MAKE YOU FEEL WARM AND NICE INSIDE

Danielson is very creepy and sometimes noisy i like them! reminds me of spirit they've gone spirit they've vanished type stuff, for some reason

Sonny, Ah!!1 (Sonny A.), Friday, 15 April 2005 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

This GGD album is better than the last one, but I do sometimes get annoyed at bands who seem to still be figuring out how to play instruments. I'm kind of a rockist like that.

Dominique (dleone), Friday, 15 April 2005 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

who are you referring to? the drummer?

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 15 April 2005 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess so. All of it sounds like it might fall apart at any moment - but that's why I say "seems". It's hard to tell if that's because they "can't" or "won't".

Dominique (dleone), Friday, 15 April 2005 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

well, brainiac always sounded like they were about to fall apart.

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 15 April 2005 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

They can play their instruments ... it's the instruments that's the problem

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Friday, 15 April 2005 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

MY PAL FOOT FOOT

ddb (ddb), Friday, 15 April 2005 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I bought the GGD record last night...everybody hates it so much I have to like it!

THE RAMP closed, dudes! :(
I missed seeing Animal Collective play a show there right after i moved to Berkeley.

Samuel Glickstein (nordicskilla), Friday, 15 April 2005 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

This is a good record.

Let the haters EAT CAKE.

Samuel Glickstein (nordicskilla), Saturday, 16 April 2005 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

You are all wishing they were Japanese so you could LOVE THEM UP big time!

Samuel Glickstein (nordicskilla), Saturday, 16 April 2005 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

no, that's gygax!.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 16 April 2005 22:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Please understand that whenever I refer to "you all" I do generally just mean gygax.

Samuel Glickstein (nordicskilla), Saturday, 16 April 2005 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

gotcha.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 16 April 2005 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

adam will you be in my dance dance gang

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Saturday, 16 April 2005 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

five years pass...

What does everyone think about Glass Jar?

Listen to it here: http://www.ganggangdance.com/

filthy dylan, Thursday, 3 March 2011 04:11 (fifteen years ago)

Starts out almost frustrating to me, interesting placement of sounds, unique arpeggiating synthesizer recorder pristinely but perhaps too high in the mix, some basic tribal drumming with heavy reverb but it meanders, occasionally starting in on some half assed one note synth line. But about 2 or 3 minutes in it finally takes some shape with kind of a Section 25 Looking From a Hilltop vibe but with new equipment and probably better apartments.

I like the vocals.
