NYC: which is more noise, Cablevision or DirecTV?

for I am moving out of the Time Warner zone in Brooklyn (bye bye, Select Dental zombies spot on NY 1).

90% of what I watch is baseball, Stewart & Colbert, films on TCM IFC etc, BBC World news. $44 for the simplest 'premium' DirecTV looks hard to beat. or mebbe I should just do without til the playoffs start in October.

DirecTV is easier to deal with than cable in terms of customer service (yeah, yeah, I know, I know), the programming is pretty much the same though I think if you for some reason fell into a ton of money and wanted to splurge on ULTIMATE BASEBALL PACKAGE DirecTV's is better and less pricey blah blah blah. I'd recommend DirecTV if it'll work in your new apt with the caveat that mine has had a tendency to go haywire during very heavy rain, so if the occasional rain-related outage is gonna bug the hell out of you go with the cable.

GET YOUR PARENTS TO TAPE IT FOR YOU?

Machibuse 80 (bundgee), Monday, 24 July 2006 20:11 (nineteen years ago)

ALLY, IF YOU LIEK IT SO MUCH BUY ONE (1) TICKET

Machibuse '80 (ex machina), Monday, 24 July 2006 20:17 (nineteen years ago)

That works wonders when you live four (4) hours away from the stadium! Well done, genius of men!! Don't worry your little head though, due to broadcasting restrictions vis a vis local areas I generally have to go out to bars to watch games I want to see anyway! But I'll take your suggestion into account next time I have tens of thousands to spend on Giants season tickets and some kind of bizarre death wish that involves spending every other Sunday on the Jersey turnpike.

Allyzay will never stop making pancakes (allyzay), Monday, 24 July 2006 20:20 (nineteen years ago)

Serious q: Do you watch any sports, dude? I'm actually curious because I can't imagine anyone who even kind of likes sporting events (any) suggesting bit torrent as a viable alternative to cable or sattelite. Bars? Sure. Friend's house? Ok. Bit torrent? So not gonna happen.

morbs, i know you don't have a computer but MLB.TV for the season costs as much as what you spend on cable in one month.

the catch of course: you're blacked out of watching local teams' home games live, but you can watch them on delay as soon as they end.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 03:13 (nineteen years ago)

I know all that, but I presumably 'need' Comedy Central, TCM and the like too.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 12:17 (nineteen years ago)

omg the teen dance competition show on bcat when they act like zombies!

i emailed them once but they never got back.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 16:24 (nineteen years ago)

Speaking of dance competitions, has anyone else seen "Pants Off Dance Off" on Fuse??? It is exactly what it seems from the title. Random ppl getting totally naked to random songs. I actually watched a 70-something man get BUTT ASS NAKED to "Friday I'm In Love." While the video itself played on the blue screen behind him, so you get a naked old man ass + Robert Smith's face over and over. Not sure if this was the worst thing I've ever seen or the greatest.

Allyzay will never stop making pancakes (allyzay), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 20:29 (nineteen years ago)

i actually caught a couple of minutes of that by chance. it was a nasty 52 old white woman with a bad blonde perm - at first i was like 'is this canada's response to hip-hop honeys or something?' but apparently it's vaguely a game show?
