I hereby propose dropping the term "noise dudes" and substituting the term "Noiseniks".

Who's with me?

JAMES WOLCOTT

cºzen (Cozen), Thursday, 26 August 2004 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

In 1987 a clever if glib reviewer named James Wolcott, already en route from punk-ghetto to Vanity Fair, gives Meltzer, Bangs and Tosches their famous nickname, the "noiseboys".

an ilxer called me a noisenik once at a FAP. I didn't like it but I forgave him.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 27 August 2004 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

julio, not that i was ever going to go to one, but you have completely scared me off of ever going to one. oh geez, the horror. the very idea that people i don't know might meet me and have ideas in their heads about what i'm like scares the bejeezus out of me for some reason.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 27 August 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

you mean you're not a leather clad metal maniac?

Ian c=====8 (orion), Friday, 27 August 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

no, i'm pretty normal looking. fat from too much beer though. and i have really really long hair like a girl. or a metalhead.

maria posted a picture of me and her and lil' rufus on the ile thread, which is fine, i don't know why julio's post creeped me out:

It's August 2004, so NOW what do you look like?

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 27 August 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

haha scott we should do a noize fap when you get to promote yr noize bk in London.

(actually I am a FAP regular and of course it was a joke -- the ilxer who did that knew what i wz like and knew i would laugh it off. Which I went on to do. I do consider that if I have talked to you online then I have met you somehow ('virtually' doesn't cover it) but funnily enuff I never think abt what you would be like if i was abt to meet you -- then suddenly I would be actually talking to you; no point, you know. Hope that this post hasn't scared you even more :-))

x-post: sorry scott, I'll er...post this anyway.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 27 August 2004 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

SCOTT WEARING PLAID MEANS HE IS A-OK BY ME!

Ian c=====8 (orion), Friday, 27 August 2004 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

No, it doesn't scare me more. And I'd be happy to meet you, Julio! I think one ILXer at a time would be fine by me. The idea of a room full of them, well... I think I've only ever met Matos and Roger A. out of everyone on ILX.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 27 August 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i buy all the old man clothes at the thrift shops here on martha's vineyard. i'm very preppy these days!

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 27 August 2004 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

A room full of 'em isn't that scary (at least in london) though I can understand how it could be. I've met a couple just one-on-one. both at gigs.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 27 August 2004 22:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I drove out to Wisconsin to a festival where I would know NO ONE besides ILXors. it was rad. the roger adultery man, the brock man, and the emma cleveland lady kept it real.
