pour out your wrath upon the nations

31g, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 03:16 (seventeen years ago) link

i have such passover nostalgia from a childhood full of jewish best friend seders. they always had me ask the bitter herbs question.

tehresa, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 03:16 (seventeen years ago) link

were you the youngest?

ian, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 03:30 (seventeen years ago) link

not technically, as i was about 7 months older than friend, but they liked to include. but yeah, she was the baby of the family and i was joint at hip best friend.

tehresa, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 03:44 (seventeen years ago) link

passedover.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 03:48 (seventeen years ago) link

thanks for putting my friends up ian, they appreciated it.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 03:56 (seventeen years ago) link

ian, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 04:07 (seventeen years ago) link

i would drink beer with them again.

manischewitz party at my house

get bent, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 05:50 (seventeen years ago) link

I felt PASSED OVER this wkend...

Hope they put bitter herbs in that hilarious Hillary Swank plagues movie.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 13:30 (seventeen years ago) link

Ian, do not suffocate yr sister with haroset, she needs that trachea for breathing with.

Laurel, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 14:29 (seventeen years ago) link

i gave my best friend in jr high school so much manischewitz that she barfed.

lauren, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 15:52 (seventeen years ago) link

(all over the brand new "oystershell" carpet that my mother had chosen for one of the bedrooms)

lauren, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 15:53 (seventeen years ago) link

At least it was the same color.

Laurel, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 16:13 (seventeen years ago) link

J/K, the bottle of Manischevitz that sat on my fridge for all three years I lived in Jersey City was the most virulently maroon-colored thing I've ever seen in liquid form.

Laurel, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 16:17 (seventeen years ago) link

I've always hated passover, to be honest.

admrl, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 16:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Me too. Moms convinced me to go for passover at her ortho friends last night, at least they were impressed by my horseradish-eating ability (it's not that spicy, dog).

They had a kosher-for-passover vodka that nobody drank, lol at mom "oh, have you ever tried vodka?"

Jordan, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 16:27 (seventeen years ago) link

i've had my fill of "secular" seders. there are never enough hagaddahs, the gentile participants ask questions that "cultural" jews don't know the answer to, and no one knows how the prayers/songs actually go except for the one neurotic semiobservant person who organized things.

lauren, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 16:33 (seventeen years ago) link

not that i'd really want to go to an observant seder, either, mind you.

lauren, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 16:34 (seventeen years ago) link

lol at mom "oh, have you ever tried vodka?

Have I ever.

Laurel, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 16:38 (seventeen years ago) link

my family's seders get shorter every year. also, funnier. there is minimal hebrew, all read by either my grandfather or grandmother. we have plenty of haggadahs, though they were last revised in 1963. also, the bitter herbs were fuckin WEAK this year, even though the jar said extra hot.. bummers.

ian, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 16:56 (seventeen years ago) link

p.s. if i don't go home for passover next year, i'm totally having a seder and you're all invited.

ian, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 16:56 (seventeen years ago) link

weed instead of glasses of wine?

Jordan, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 17:03 (seventeen years ago) link

weed after the meal.

ian, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 18:41 (seventeen years ago) link

LET MY PEOPLE GO

chaki, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 18:46 (seventeen years ago) link

sounds like a Robert Downey (Jr or Sr) Seder

elmo argonaut, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 18:55 (seventeen years ago) link

i wld go to ian's seder
(i have never been to a seder! i know nothing!)

rrrobyn, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 19:06 (seventeen years ago) link

I am so amused by the whole body of giantly-enlarged-weed-photos porn. It's kind of repellent and space alien-y but then the obvious care taken in the set-up is sort of endearing and you know the creator of the shot really loves his subject, so....

Laurel, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 19:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Haha, the centerfold subjects in High Times are probably treated better than those in Hustler, fer sure

elmo argonaut, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 19:16 (seventeen years ago) link

doh my boss just saw big buds on my screen :/

chaki, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 19:17 (seventeen years ago) link

sorry chaki :(

elmo argonaut, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 19:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Even though I knew it was going to be weed, when that pic started downloading I was like "ahhh tarantula!"

Jordan, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 19:22 (seventeen years ago) link

man ian i would be all up in yr seder! do it!

tehresa, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 22:34 (seventeen years ago) link

passover greetings from aunt had this cheery news:

cousin's wife has cervical cancer & had to have hysterectomy.

tokyo rosemary, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 01:56 (seventeen years ago) link

i saw a passover e-greeting with a dancing, jazz-handed star of david smiley face, wtf

gabbneb, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 16:43 (seventeen years ago) link

holy shit i love me some seders

river wolf, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 17:37 (seventeen years ago) link

mostly because i spent a lot of time as gentile-best-friend, but also because all my jewy friends in college would organize these blowout seders with much food and wine

river wolf, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 17:38 (seventeen years ago) link

D: inedible passover food at work

gabbneb, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 17:47 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, wahtevs, passover-themed lunch in work caf yesterday including sheets of matzoh, but cooked in unkosher kitchen so wtf anyway??

Laurel, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 17:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Laurel, just convert already!

Jordan, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 20:18 (seventeen years ago) link

no shit, ffs lady

river wolf, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 20:41 (seventeen years ago) link

i actually thought about converting the other day

river wolf, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 20:41 (seventeen years ago) link

I've learned to keep schtum mostly at seder. As of late, my ashkenazi gf and I have been going to a Moroccan Jewish seder - much, much better food.

Dudes, I don't like swimming so much that I need to take on the mikvah twice a month or whatevs. Plus, family purity law? Any kind of purity? Or law? Have we met?

Laurel, Thursday, 5 April 2007 03:44 (seventeen years ago) link

don't worry, We don't want you.

ian, Thursday, 5 April 2007 03:56 (seventeen years ago) link

laurel, just convert to lapsed judaism.

get bent, Thursday, 5 April 2007 04:13 (seventeen years ago) link

It's okay, Ian, I know you have to ritually reject my conversion pleas the first three times. We can still be friends.

Laurel, Thursday, 5 April 2007 04:25 (seventeen years ago) link

take on the mikvah twice a month or whatevs

I didn't even know about that shit!

Jordan, Thursday, 5 April 2007 15:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Living water is some craziness, it's true!

Laurel, Thursday, 5 April 2007 15:05 (seventeen years ago) link

My Jewish coworker called it a "minyan". Uh, no.

tokyo rosemary, Thursday, 5 April 2007 20:54 (seventeen years ago) link

NOT JEWWY ENOUGH

Laurel, Thursday, 5 April 2007 21:15 (seventeen years ago) link

A minyan is something else. It involves ten dudes (brojobs?).

Jordan, Thursday, 5 April 2007 21:19 (seventeen years ago) link

today we had a meeting/training thing and with the easter cookies there were also chocolate dipped matzohs! it was tasty but i bet not kosher since on a tray with other not kosher items. also, was the dipping done in a kosher place? hmm.

anyway, then my sister told me she was making matzoh bark! chocolate with nuts and dried cherries. now i want more matzohs! also geflite fish (weird i know).
