THERE WAS THIS ASSHAT ON SLSK ...

... he had all his files in one bigass folder. I wanted to d/l a four-track single, and hit "d/l folder", not realizing that this guy was a shithead who doesn't know how to organize his stuff.

So of course, 80490939 files get queued up, and I had to delete them all except for the four tracks I wanted.

Then the guy writes me, and he's like "WTF are you doing?" and I'm like "you're the one with your stuff in one bigass folder" and he's like "you should check more carefully" and I'm like "whatever buddy" and then the guy bans me.

Dicklicker. What say the NOIZZZZ board?

What was this "four-track single"?

thorHmono (Thor), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

he's right. you should check more carefully.

dean? (deangulberry), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

i made that mistake once... ONCE. i've been banned for a lot worse (namely, my music taste as defined by my shared folder).

i put soulseek on my mac. it kinda worked. some friends I could download from, others I couldn't. some strangers I could dl from. but I had trouble getting it to see my files, then when it did I only had a few. and people would cut me off. I say that's not fair. They didn't pay for that song. Their "payment" for that song should be that they HAVE to share it with me. But no. I can't download 20 million hours of Lamonte Young. Then my computer crashed and nicotine like, lost all my prefs. I may enter the game again. If I do, I'll share good stuff and you will let me download from you. My name shall be dannyDMX.

til then...

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Incidentally, I was d/l'ing an old Rising High Records single. It was four remixes of the same track.
What's the point of having like 1000 tracks in one folder? How is this helpful in any way?

thats strange I've had pretty good luck w/Nicotine.

artdamages (artdamages), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

dan, that's a port forwarding/firewall problem, not a nicotine problem

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd look into trying to make it work but the more recent problem of it always starting up as if I never used it before(not remembering my searches, not remembering my shared music folder) is too frustrating. I'm not a total computer idiot and if I was still on OS9 I'd have no problem troubleshooting it, but OSX leaves me clueless. For now I'm just ftp'ing files with friends anyway...

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

nickalicious, use itunes built in sorting!

Ian c=====8 (orion), Thursday, 9 September 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

also...most of my music is ripped into iTunes as AAC files. I can't share those right? Most people would be really mad if they downloaded something from me and couldn't play it, I assume.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 9 September 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

they're just mpeg-4 files. you can share them just as you do mpeg-3 files. i know that itunes will play all of them but don't know if other programs are as well. i would assume so, though.

dean? (deangulberry), Thursday, 9 September 2004 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't know because even earlier versions of iTunes can't play AAC/mp4 files, so I assumed other players couldn't.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 9 September 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

there are some that can. no one has ever gotten mad at me for my aac files.

I'm not sure if he's using it as source material for a thesis/monograph or if it's just a hobby, but it sure is exhaustive

hippie lady from california who loves that god (unregistered), Tuesday, 13 September 2016 02:55 (nine years ago)

(huh, apparently he's an indie musician/tape-loop guru of considerable note, and I've heard at least one of his projects)
