I HAVE BEEN TO A CRAPPY TACQUERIA AT 3AM IN THE MORNING ~ 2ND/15TH WITH JON WILLIAMS AND IAN JOHNSON AND SPENT ~$9.00 (!!!!) ON A "SAN FRANCISCO STYLE BURRITO" OMG WTF

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

San Francisco style? That's like "Providence style Paella"

TS: the spicy red salsa vs. the brown colored less spicy more thick salsa

hmm, which place was this?

Okay, just got back. Damn do fat midwestern tourists in NYC walk fucking slow.

SCENE REPORT:

after initial confusion about where the hell my COKE cup was (sorry burritodudez!), my order (border burrito with chipotle tortilla, COKE) arrived safe and sound. Tasty, even, after adding chips + green salsa + red salsa to the pile. No bad "electronic" music this time (ASTRALWERKS + UK PUBLIC I'm LOOKING IN YOUR DIRECTION), straight-up Mex/Latin mix. Didn't pay attention to what was on TV. Yum. Read a couple things in the Voice, Michael Moore blah blah. Then left.

WENT TO PORN PLACE SOLELY TO GET NY PRESS, reached hand in vestibule, received scornful looks from fair lass with non-emobutt (EVEN THO I DIDN"T GO IN). Walked down the street to J&R, bought EVIL EMPIREMicrosoft wireless router (didn't wanna wait for mail-in rebate for other brands). No $1 book guy today as I was running low on remaining lunch time (goddamn tourists).

oh I know, just joshin' brody. I don't know of any burrito places near 2nd and 15th.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

there's a San Loco at 2nd and St. Marks tho.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

it may have been 3rd.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck it, it may have been staten island with roger adultery and his c. everett coop autographed backpack.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

hmmm, nope, not ringing a bell. It's definitely not a Burritoville.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

is burritoville open at 3am in the morning?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

no :(

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i haven't had a burritoville adventure in quite a while. i've fallen in love with the food at the mexican grocery by my house, even though someone appearing to be abel ferarra's long-lost brother is there every time drinking a 24oz high life and leering at me.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Caliente Cab and it BLOWS ASSHOLES.

or San Loco.

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

the only 3rd Ave. Burritoville is up at 52nd.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I was going to post that SP picture on the Rodan/Tara Jane O'Neil thread, hstencil!

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't think anything at san loco costs $7, and they don't claim to be sf style. what is the mystery taqueria???

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

the place was the cosmic cantina, which sucks unless you get the mad sick student discount so everything's like... $4. and they have platters of guac/beans/chips/salsa for like $3.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

POY BOMBX

dean, i missed that the first time round. ROFFLER.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Ian c=====8 (orion), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

at 3am it's either there or some shady corner market.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I musta walked by that place and never even noticed it. Think I'd rather eat UA movie theater nachos, by the sounds of it.

Speaking of which, the nachos at KEYSPAN PARK HOME OF YOUR BROOKLYN CYCLONES are surprisingly good!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

corner markets open at 3 AM are not shady! Also, it's the nu-East VillageTM, nothing shady is allowed anymore.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

except the junkies that sleep on the bench next to my building.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

when i stayed at 3rd/C in '97, i saw a kid shoot a girl in the back of the head with a slingshot from an open window on one of the lower floors. she fell down, blood down the back of her shirt, we called the cops and pointed out the window of the building it came from.

other than that, everyone was really cool except this one bartender at meow mix.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost to lauren - maybe you should throw out those old trunks, then.

okay, CUTTY YOUR GIRL GOT HER HAIR DID.

got there sometime after 2:15. Place practically empty except after I get my meal, this CHEAPSKATE BRIT with a black fucking eye and a TIME OUT NY GUIDEBOOK does the CHEAPSKATE BRIT thing and just eats chips/salsa. They're STILL working on the A/C. Chips are stale, burrito pretty good though. Not too long before I leave two HOTTT girls walk in, vaguely punk rockish (tho one of them has BAD FASHION SENSE: black engineer hat, black spaghetty strapper dress, black cowboy boots, backpack - PLEASE GIRLFREN < /queereyefromstr8guy >) but I am not SKINNY ENOUGH to talk to them.

On the way to and from work it's nothing but HOTTTT CHIXXXX. I'm like that kid in the sixth senser except I SEE...HOTTT CHIXXXX.

I TOLD HER YESTERDAY I LIKED HER HAIR AND SHE GAVE ME FREE SODER

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I should've said something about her hair, dammit.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

If she plays with her hair she's probably keen.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

IT'S GOT TOO MUCH PERMY STUFF/IS UP IN CURLS/ABOVE THE VISOR LINE for her to play with it. Plus, y'know, that'd be gross since she works in the FOOD SERVICE INDUSTRY.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I was once served in an Arby's in Lexington, KY by a dude with "Young Wayne" printed on his nametag.

Can hstencil explain this?

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

NO.

there was a dude at the Pizza Hut whose nametag read "BRISCO COUNTY JR."

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

His name was J03L and he liked the ladies...and out jazz.

but mostly ladies!

seven months pass...
I saw Dianne Wiest at Burritoville on 8th and 23rd when she walked past my table. I didn't say anything, but went near the front (near where she was standing) to get more salsa and verified it was her when I heard that signature voice of hers. She was with a young woman who had long reddish hair, possibly her daughter..? She sat pensive, facing the floor for a few minutes while the young woman ordered. They talked about seeing a movie, which I might also assume might have been her most recent film, "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints". I'm actually off to see the film this evening. She very beautiful in person.

FREE CHIPS SINK SHIPS

sexyDancer, Thursday, 18 September 2008 21:02 (seventeen years ago)

Well sexyDancer....Today I saw the MOST reprehensible burrittoville faux-pa ever. This dood, after filling three WATER cups with Three different Salsas (big NO!!)...took the chip tongs and starting filling his to-go bag with chips.

I KNOW!

He was just dumping chips into his bag all over his burritto, napkins and diet coke.

It was a nightmare...the veggie sloppy joe burrito made it ok tho.
