I have four elvis costello records. I only like one of them. Am I missing something?

Ian c=====8 (orion), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 23:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

MY AIM IS TRUE HAS A COUPLE OF BUMPERZ ON IT.

OTHER THAN THAT, HE IS TEH SUCK

DEEBZ (ddb), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:00 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

He was actually pretty good on Letterman the other night!

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Holly (an appletross), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Ian c=====8 (orion), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:11 (twenty-one years ago)

me too, shit.

Holly (an appletross), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I fuckin' HATE Elvis Costello. HATE that cocksucker.

And I am incredibly forgiving of just about everyone. There only like three artists in the world I don't like. And this charlatan is numero uno on the shortlist.

Roy Williams Highlight (diamond), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i like pump it up!

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:26 (twenty-one years ago)

but he bores/annoys the hell out of me. probably whever he decided that he was a "singer" was when i said seeya later alligayturd.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

that's the only song I like actually. Because it doesn't sound his other whiny crap.

Roy Williams Highlight (diamond), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

The song "God's Comic" on the album 'Spike' is amazing, and so is the entire Elvis C. w/ String Quartet album 'the Juliet Letters', esp the song "Jacksons Monk and Rowe". I like a lot of really gay music though.

Daniel DiMAGGIO (Daniel DiMAGGIO), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

mudhoney improved on it so "you don't even need it*"

*(ie, the original)

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i like his first album okay in the same way that i like joe jackson's first album. and then i could ignore them forever after.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

dude, daniel, NOBODY likes gayer music than me. Elvis makes doody music for scat lovers.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

my aim is true has, at least: blame it on cain, that red shoes song, no dancin' and i'm not angry.

i've also got trust, imperial bedroom and armed forces, all courtesy of dollar bins across this land. they aren't so hot.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

welcome to the working week is a good song

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

burt bacharach. i'll give you burt bacharach upside the head. and yer girlfriend is needed on the set of the new Mr.Ed movie, hippy!

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i like watching the detectives.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, that's good too.

not welcome to the working week, though. shit's a boring attempt at being a punk rocker.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i actually liked that song from that grace of my heart movie, but only when she sings it not when he sings it. and i liked matt dillon as brian wilson.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:35 (twenty-one years ago)

"Accidents Will Happen," "What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding," "Oliver's Army"...

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:36 (twenty-one years ago)

See, the funny thing is I like Joe Jackson. And he's thought of as a Costello copyist I guess, I dunno. I think he's kinda got his own thing going on. And "Steppin' Out" is one of my all-time favorite songs. Actually I like that whole Night And Day album. "Another World" is a good cut on there; I like the art of pretend Orientalness. But I only paid a couple bucks for it.

Roy Williams Highlight (diamond), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:36 (twenty-one years ago)

dude in what way does welcome to the working week sound like punk? if it's supposed to be punk, i hate it now.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

in that it's fast and full of poor singing?

Ian c=====8 (orion), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

well that describes almost all music ever, besides the slow stuff

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:39 (twenty-one years ago)

The song he did on Letterman a few nights ago>>>The song Tom Waits did last night.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:39 (twenty-one years ago)

but tom waits in general >>>>>>>>>>> elvis costello

Ian c=====8 (orion), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Oooh, Tom Waits, that's #2 on my list. I should have known he'd show up on this thread.

Roy Williams Highlight (diamond), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

joe jackson did that mike's murder soundtrack, didn't he? i think i liked that a million years ago. but that first album is hot. not a bad song on it. like the first pretenders and, um, all the other albums from around then that were good.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i like jersey girl and the swordfishtrombones album.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost

well, who's number three? nick cave?

Ian c=====8 (orion), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

nick cave, tom waits, elvis costello=all three indie dude stereotypes, ever

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i like the mercey seat. and i want to have sex with blixa.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd let blixa touch my willy.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:45 (twenty-one years ago)

nick cave, tom waits, elvis costello=all three indie dude stereotypes, ever

ok so the only way I can be an indie dude without issues is to be Mickey Rourke in Barfly? shit.

That's why there's also Stephen Malkmus.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I love Nick Cave! Well, I love the B-day Party anyway; haven't always kept tabs on his solo career.

Um, my #3 used to be the Talking Heads because I can't stand David Byrne. And I can't stand their "Take Me to the River". And I can't stand their later period stuff. But I realized that the early stuff with Eno has enough gnarly art-sput going on to justify their existence.

So now it's just kind of a roving space in which I can insert my bete noire of the moment. a Wild Card, if you will. Hmmm.. right now, let's say it's Modest Mouse.

Roy Williams Highlight (diamond), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

that ugly casanova album is really cool though, RWH.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

for me it's wilco. they are my wildcard forever for no reason. they just bug me.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

the ugly casanova album just tries to sound like tom waits, though!

Ian c=====8 (orion), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, the music on a lot of those talking heads records is too cool to dismiss. all talking heads members post-talking heads are fair game for annihilation though.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i liked it when i heard it. i was gonna listen to it the other day. i thought the sounds were cool.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I mean, I pretty much love everybody ever. I just feel like HAVE to hate a couple guys, though, you know? Just to keep myself honest.

I don't sprechen ze Ugly Casanova but since you recommended it Scott I will keep my ears peeled.

Roy Williams Highlight (diamond), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck Elvis Costello for what he called Ray Charles.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 30 September 2004 02:24 (twenty-one years ago)

also fuck elvis costello for making music...hahahaha

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 30 September 2004 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

(allocryptic), Thursday, 30 September 2004 03:13 (twenty-one years ago)

also fuck him for those glasses, and for every time someone has said "oh you'd look so nice in those glasses, why don't you get them?"

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 30 September 2004 03:39 (twenty-one years ago)

the coolest thing Elvis Costello ever did was have Suicide as an opening act.

mayo apetrain (mayoape), Thursday, 30 September 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

WHATEVER PUNKER

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 30 September 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

mayo apetrain (mayoape), Thursday, 30 September 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

fight fight fight!

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 30 September 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Blood & Chocolate, even though he's way too smartass on it. I was listening to it the other day. I loved him in high school. Kinda over it, but still lots of really great moments, I think.

Also, "The Beat" -- that's an awesome song.

Sonny, Ah!!1 (Sonny A.), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i will go on record as liking the first three albums and blood and chocolate. as for the ray comment, jeez the guy apologized for it. im sure we've all done shit we are ashamed of. as for after blood and chocolate -- no redemption ever. pure fecal flow.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

oh c'mon man that's a cop-out.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 30 September 2004 21:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll never forgove him for being British. Why can't he just be the same nationality as Thurston Moore?

Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Thursday, 30 September 2004 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

ugh being from Connecticut is worse than being British!

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

also isn't he like more Irish than British with that Declan MacManus hell of a horrible name?

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll never forgove him either.

why do old people and old users of ILX such bastardos (deangulberry), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

forGLOVE him I meant. It is a London thing that you would not understand.

Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:03 (twenty-one years ago)

"forglove" = hating blind black folx?

why do old people and old users of ILX such bastardos (deangulberry), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

exactly. EXACTLY.

An American once asked me "Do you have black people in England? And if so, are they African or American?'.

The Bitter Tears Of Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

you're making that up.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

No. I am not.

The Bitter Tears Of Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I am also fond of

"Have you heard of PIZZA?"

The Bitter Tears Of Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:10 (twenty-one years ago)

"Do you brush ... your teeth?"

why do old people and old users of ILX such bastardos (deangulberry), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

"Do you brush ... your teeth ... with something besides dirt and whatever that yellow coloring is?"

why do old people and old users of ILX such bastardos (deangulberry), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, "colouring."

why do old people and old users of ILX such bastardos (deangulberry), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

My answer to "Have you heard of Pizza?" was "yes, I have heard of pizza".

The Bitter Tears Of Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

And the answer to that was "Really? That's weird!".

The Bitter Tears Of Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

You don't look like you are familiar with Pizza.

why do old people and old users of ILX such bastardos (deangulberry), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:17 (twenty-one years ago)

?

The Bitter Tears Of Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

You have a look about you that says "I am afraid of eating rad, circular foodstuffs."

why do old people and old users of ILX such bastardos (deangulberry), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

define rad.

The Bitter Tears Of Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:19 (twenty-one years ago)

"rad" = german for "wheel" or "wheel-like"

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't. It is a wholly American phenomenon.

why do old people and old users of ILX such bastardos (deangulberry), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

The most interesting band in the world is Night Ranger.

The Bitter Tears Of Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I am afraid of nothing, btw.

The Bitter Tears Of Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Literally nothing.

The Bitter Tears Of Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Just...that needs to be said, I think.

The Bitter Tears Of Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Elvis Costello okay.

The Bitter Tears Of Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I am stupid in love with the song "Veronica" and I like his first 3 albums although if I never heard them again I would be fine.

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

He likes Cannibal Ox.
