'genuine' is not on that partic menu, but then not much rly is - ILX loves its McDonalds-style fast-food threads with high output and low nutritional value more and more it seems

Re MIA in general, I'm with deej. I don't like any of her music (I called her first record "Tom Tom Club with a tan" and I stand by that) and I think the hype and general lovefest atmosphere around her every half-assed, fumbling gesture is somewhere between annoying and infuriating.

I do not understand people who don't listen to music from the 80s.
As far as I'm concerned, music was INVENTED in the 80s (or mor specifially, with Joy Division). Anything before that is just proto-music.

Heavy metal has become consumed by our corporate, capitalist culture (holy crap that’s a lot of alliteration). It is a safe way to rebel while not actually doing anything to change things. Instead of protesting heinous acts or boycotting evil corporations, or trying to make the world a better place in any way, you go to Virgin Megastore or iTunes to buy a Metallica CD that was produced by a big company. Then you go to a concert sponsored by Coca-Cola and McDonalds, never thinking about the horrific things these companies do to their workers so that they can make a profit off a 99 cent cheeseburger. But it’s okay, because you’re making devil horns with your hands, so you’re a badass.

he's right tho. often have i had the urge to wage revolution on my capitalist masters but instead found the solace and peace in Poison. Were it not for their honied ballads I surely would've rebelled.

Warrant is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.
